The defense will still be fresh come winter though...

Washington has eaten up half the quarter with one drive. Kelly doesn't have Whothehellcares State on the other side of the ball. He's not going to get to run 53 plays every half.

The Redskins eating up half the quarter when down 33-7 isn't exactly impressive.

Yeah but when you're up by 26, you don't care if the other team eats up half a quarter. Especially if they miss a FG.

Why do they have that flesh covered tarp on both sidelines. Seems slippery as hell and is begging for an ACL tear a la Jamal Charles.

This is just a fun offense to watch. I hope the rest of the season is as good as Week 1.

Side fantasy note: i drafted Vick to pick up Caepernick. Time to shop Vick around and see what I can get.

It will be interesting to see Philly run this offense when they play at Denver.

All I know is that I've seen so many schemes that were suppose to revolutionize the game and each one got figured out. The Wildcat, the Run-n-Shoot, the no-huddle, the "46" defense and so on...

So far it is impressive, but not every team is going to come out and lay as big an offensive egg as Washington did tonight. So I'm going to wait before I declare the Eagles Super Bowl champs.

Oh, absolutely. And really I'm counting on that, so WAS, SF aren't unstoppable.

Nice job every other football player that scores a TD when their team is down 20.

Vick is limping already and we're in the 4th quarter of the first game. Hope Nick Foles is ready.

I joked with someone that the Redskins kept Pat White in order to trade him to the Eagles after Vick goes down in Week 2...

I feel like this is what the Eagles pulled a lot under Reid, though. Come out guns a-blazin', but make a couple key mistakes, let a team hang around, and then fade down the stretch and lose the game. Other teams I can feel like ok - 19pt game, 4Q - it's over. Never with these guys. Some of that is pessimism because they're my team I'm sure, but some is that they just don't have a killer instinct and can't run out the clock.

It does seem like Kelly took the foot off the gas from an offensive standpoint in the second half. Not sure I understand it much.

It's the NFL - we don't really want McCoy running the ball 40 times do we?

At some point, you stop talking about player safety and you lay down the hammer to any player who isn't concerned about the safety of the other players. I think the time is now. I love what the college game is doing and think the NFL should follow suit.

2) While you may think you are a live target until your toe hits the out of bounds line, that is not the way it is explained in the rule book.
I'm not arguing what's in the rule book - if that's the rule, call it (did anyone ever find a public link to the full NFL rulebook?), but I'm arguing what I feel should be a penalty. I'm 100% with you on player safety, but I think that players protecting themselves (in this case until they're out of bounds, but also things like not allowing the runner to lower his helmet) is part of it. I don't think asking defensive players to make a judgment call on whether a player is "giving himself up" is realistic (and can remember more than one play where a defender slowed up and the QB took advantage by running for more yards), but I think it is 100% realistic for them to see if the player has taken a step or two out of bounds. (And, again, I do think Matthews should be suspended even though "late hits" usually don't have suspensions, because I think it's clear that he had an intent to injure Kaepernick. And no, I don't have 100% certainty on that, but under Goodell's NFL he's shown he doesn't need the same burden of proof a court of law does.)

Fwiw, maybe I just watch more SEC than other college football, but I highly doubt either of those would be called late hits in most of the college games I see - if anything that league in particular allows more late/high hits than the NFL.

PS - I do also agree that they should move teams further back from the sidelines, and get rid of those stupid tarps that multiple players keep slipping on after they run out of bounds.

Berman is calling a tied game in the 4th quarter like it is a preseason blowout. He is extremely boring to listen to. I am amazed that this is the same guy that I used to love on NFL Countdown in the 90s.
