My roommate and I were cracking jokes everytime they threw it down to him for some insightful analysis, like "The Rangers really need to shake it up, just like BAD MEDICINE! BAD MEDICINE IS WHAT THEY NEED!"

And the way they controlled the puck at the end of the game while the Avs were trying to get Theo pulled was embarrassing.

Bad officiating in the game, but I don't think it matters at this point.

The Avalanche have been very unlucky with injuries. No Svatos, no Woloski, Smyth was out, Statsny was gone early in the 1st, Forsberg missed a chunk of time in the 1st and didn't look 100%. That is a lot of inuries to overcome.

If the Wings' luck holds up and they end up winning this series and Dallas takes care of the Sharks, I would look for Zubov, Richards, and possibly Lehtinen to go down with injuries around Game 1 or so.

This just reported from XM...Thursday could be Jagr's last game in the NHL. A Czech team is already reporting that he will play for them next year.

I read somewhere week or so ago that he had a deal in place (although I think it was said to be a Russian team). I don't think he's being figured into the Rangers plans going forward.

Going to play hockey in Europe because you're tired of clutching and grabbing and hacking is like going to a buffet because you're tired of food.

Haha I'm not familiar with how it's played over there.

One thing I'll say about the Pens... I like their vibe. If they can keep the team together, it could be a nice dynasty like the Oilers of old. They just need a Coffey guy.

I was going to post this in the 80s music thread but it fits better in here...

In response to a Washington Post column about the Philadelphia Flyers fans that read "women and children could be security for Megadeth," Dave Mustaine sent a videotaped message of support wearing a jersey of the Flyers captain, Jason Smith. Megadeth and the Philadelphia Flyers have joined up to give fans of both the team and the band a special playoff treat - a free downloadable iron-on so you can make your own Megadeth Security shirts. The Flyers continue their playoff run on Wednesday night against the Montreal Canadians.

Wow.

That is scary. Apparently he had a lascerated spleen. Didnt' something almost similar happen to Lindros at some point?

Not to make light of tha horrible situation, but the headline on CNN.co, to the story (NFL's Sean Avery has lacerated spleen) immediately made me think of this:

Dola - updated to say hospitalized with a lacerated spleen. That's a hell of a change from cardiac arrest.

Edit to provide link to story

SI.com's headline has lacerated spleen but (edit to add: WAS) unconscious and not breathing.

Fortunately, CNN is reporting that Avery is expected to make a full recovery. That's a relief.

Nik Borschevsky suffered a spleen injury years ago and almost died -- he was lucky that they figured out the problem early. The team was getting on a flight right after the game and if he had been on it, he probably wouldn't have made it back to the ground.

You do this everytime. Everytime we're talking hockey it's always all "Nik Borschevsky this" or "Nik Borschevsky that".

ENOUGH ALREADY

thats crazy about avery. hope he's ok.

as for the pens...it seems a very, very smart move for an eastern conference team to offer MAF a big contract, if only to force pitt to match and eat up some salary cap space. every team in the atlantic is set, sadly, but maybe atl, tb, car, ott, who knows. itd be a good idea, even if half the teams i just listed cant afford it.

Not sure how many caught this little nugget coming out of the Satellite Hot Stove segment on CBC Saturday night during the second intermission of the Montreal-Philadelphia game, but Al Strachan, who works for the Sun Media outlets in Canada, stated that John Tortorella will be fired as head coach once Oren Koules gains control of the team. But the stunner was to hear that Barry Melrose, who has all of three years of NHL coaching experience and none since the 1994-95 season with Los Angeles, is Koules' first choice for the team's new coach.

Didn't they end up deciding to leave that position vacant? The strategy, if I recall, was just to lock up all their players with "no trade" clauses, thus rendering the position of GM moot.

ditto for Forsberg. The team was all out to dinner celebrating after winning their series against the Kings. Forsberg wanted to leave early because we wasn't feeling well. Luckily, someone had him lay down and they summoned help to check him out, otherwise it could have been far more serious.

Given that this is Forsberg, I assume you meant to say that someone got him to continue laying down.
