Decision time. Guess or roll again? Cost is lowering prize to $15k for rolling again.

That reminds me of one of Super Mario's enemies.

Unless someone can recognize it for sure I say we roll again. The problem is we likely won't need all of those rolls to make a guess.

That would leave the option to open a 9 and a 10, probably somewhere in the E-G/2-3 range depending on where people wanted to go.

I'm up for other suggestions, but that (plus my move with Poli) was my first thought.

I'm not agreeing with the ideas to open more squares around the face that we already have. It seems pretty obvious to me that we're seeing a create and background from the Super Mario universe.

I'd be more interested in seeing what else is on the picture, to find out which game of the series it is, or which console it could be.

MIJB, Clap, and Butter, why don't you all combine to open G8. I think we've got this one after these two moves.

Brian, why do you think that D2 and G8 are optimal moves? G8 is not attached to anything - why is that a better spot to move than something connected to our existing removed pieces?

Because I think Mario is under one of them. I'm pretty sure we are looking at Super Mario Galaxy.

OK - I'm just wondering how we got from "nope - we don't know it" to "I bet this is Super Mario" without making an additional move. It looks like MIJB made a comment on it earlier, but no one responded to it at all and said "move again" but now we are taking shots at random spots on the board.

I'll go along with where the group wants to go, but this approach seems kind of strange to me.

I don't think we should make this move. It's random.

If you thought you knew what it was we are looking at, why didn't you speak up earlier before we had to make another roll? I'm confused...

Just scanned this and saw a couple of things that might constitute moves but I'm kind of sick and will be out for a bit. It would help if someone can let me know if there is an obvious move up there so I can knock it out quickly when I get home and get a few minutes.

Blech, bad bad allergies.

I'm holding off on a move with my piece until we hear from MIJB as well. It seems like both him and Brian are on the same page in terms of game thoughts and wanting to move elsewhere. So I would like to see that conversation move a little bit before committing my action.

To me the face of the centered figure (classic enemy, don't know the name) and background (typical hill with a pipe line) all scream Super Mario universe, but I have no idea where to look at this board for more clues, nor am I familiar enough with console games of the past 15 or so years to have a more educated guess at which game. We could take a dozen random shots in the big grey areas and still find nothing.

Since we've already bought a new turn, I think BrianD has a good point in thinking we could find Mario in the bottom right corner. And then I'd prefer seeing us take 3 shots rather than 2...

But that's my 2 cents, we're with a 7-men group here.

I hope this isn't meta-gaming, but I do know that there are often exemptions on the line during these challenges, so I'll comment that these might be E3 games.

Try an image search for "Goomba", that should give you a picture of the Mario enemy we're looking at.

From the info I got so far, and supported by BrianD's comment, it seems like it's Super Mario Galaxy or Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Because of the roll already made, I'm kind of flipflopping in thinking it's a good idea to reveal some more of the 'Goomba' and make a more educated guess which version it is.

It's not Super Paper Mario, is it? Whatever that is in C3 looks kinda flat...

Wikipedia lists the Goomba's as appearing in:
1.) Super Mario World (original appearance)
2.) Paper Mario series (friendly characters in some cases)
3.) Super Smash Bros Melee (cameo)
4.) Super Smash Bros Brawl (cameo)
5.) Zelda: Link's Awakening (cameo)

I'm guessing it is neither of the last three, given that he appears to be prominently featured. So I think we take a shot with one of the first two on this list.

As far as where to put the pieces, I'm fine with either approach. If we want to take the BrianD approach we can take a shot at a specific square but I don't see how you would reach the conclusion that Mario would be in a specific spot. Or how it would help determine which of the top two games on this list would be our mystery title.

I figure we are looking at an action shot. Either Mario is jumping off the block toward the Goomba, or the Goomba is chasing Mario. As to how it helps us even if we do find Mario...it probably doesn't matter. I think we are getting too specific again.

No way that's a Super Mario World shot, Goomba's in that game looked very different.

OK, so since we have the moves lets make them and then put in a guess.

Is there any compelling reason to not just go ahead and put the moves near the stuff that is already exposed?

At this point I'll just go along with whatever someone else wants to do so we can proceed with our guess. It sounds like we are pretty much ready to make one ...

How about G7 or E7? Something lower, where Mario might be, but without using up all our moves at once?
