I suppose it's better than FeFe Dobson a few years ago, but Deborah Cox successfully turned the Canadian anthem into a 5 minute song. Ugh.

I prefer this version:

Ok, what's up with the All-Star unis? did they run out of material when making the back?

Every year, they do something fancy with the unis. Sometimes it works, sometimes, it doesn't...

I was confused trying to figure out what team was what, until I realized they were two-tone.

I'm guessing they tried to "New Orleans-ify" things this year. But like with most things the NBA does, their execution was less than stellar.

I'm not sure I would call those atrocities New Orleans-y -- they're just horrible uniforms. But I thought the intros were neat, and it's been quite a successful All-Star weekend after last year's debacle.

Boy, I forgot how terrible the quality of play was in the All-Star game. If these guys would just play basketball it would be a tremendous exhibition.

Random aside: I think its really really cool, that on an NBA halftime show of all places, Jazz (and jazz influences) is being featured. Acts like Soulja Boy and Pink would have been par for the course with NBA's cultural image over the past decade, I am very pleasantly surprised to see that they went along with this.

Agreed. One of my favorite half time shows of any sport in a long time.

The Mavs are giving up a ton for a guy that, IMO, isn't as good as Devin Harris at this stage of his career.
I'm a little shocked at this. One would think a benefit of moving Kidd would be freeing up some salary. Hassell has a pretty bad contract $4+ million this year and next year, with a player option for the same amount in 09-10. I'd say kudos to Dallas if they can unload his deal in this move.

Word. Not to mention having actual point guards this time. I couldn't give a damn about the millions of swimming, gymnastics, and track events, USA gold in basketball is the only thing I really want to see this summer.

I don't normally watch the NBA, but Dwight Howard in the dunk competition was frickin' awesome. The Superman cape, then just throwing the ball in the basket... it wasn't even really a dunk, but who cares?

Hah, yeah. Funny thing was, it wasn't until a few hours later when I was thinking about the superman dunk again that I even realised that he didn't dunk it.

Just looked at the highlights on nba.com. The Superman dunk was a throw-in, but the tip drill dunk was beautiful.

Sixers apparently open to trading Andre Miller. Cavs, I know you don't have any parts, but somehow make it happen. I'd love for my favourite NBA team to get my favourite all-time NCAA/NBA player back.

Assuming the Kidd trade go through somehow, which superstar has more pressure on them to win a NBA title this year? Dirk, Nash, or Kobe?

only counting this year....if Shaq is healthy Nash the window is closing on us with Hill/Nash/Shaq...if Shaq isn't healthy Kobe.

Kobe kept saying he needed help, he's got it now he needs to prove that he can win with his help.

When I ask the question about the guy under the most pressure to get out of the first round, I'll include Tracy

I don't get this trade for Dallas. +1 to the people saying Harris is as good as Kidd now. Good luck to Dallas trying to stop Parker, Nash, Baron, Chris Paul, etc. J-Kidd might match up well against Deron Williams style I guess.

The dunk contest was great, but they really need to change the judging system. It should just be 3 dunks each, and each judge picks their winner. If you have a tie, fine, do a dunk-off, but the multiple rounds and 10 pt scoring system doesn't work when there's never less than an 8 given. They also need to bring in James White, if not Taurian Fontenette, and allow people like Dwight Howard to do things like raise the rim to 12 ft.

Dola - I also found it hilarious that they called a charge off ball in the last minute of an all-star game, and that Doc started subbing in FT shooters.

I'll give him points for style, but c'mon, if Jordan or Dr. J jumped from the free throw line, then couldn't actually reach the rim and just threw it in, it wouldn't quite be the same. But Howard is a showman and he actually pulled it off where it looked like a positive.

I totally think Howard could have dunked that if he wanted. It just looked so much more forceful to me when he threw it in.

He was too far away, Mike. But I think that had to do more with the pass than his jumping ability...

Yeah I think he could have either made that dunk from there, or at least from a few inches forwards. Much of the charm of the dunk was the way he just got right up there and threw that ball down in to the hoop though.

The call was an illegal screen when Paul wiped out Allen on the screen. It was the right call, but surprising since they may not have called it in a regular game.

Van Horn gets paid, yes. However I read yesterday that the NBA might actually make him join the Nets to make it more official. No idea what that would mean though.

On a side note, Nick Fazekas was waived by the Mavs to make the deal work. I still think he can make it in the NBA, and he'd be a decent pickup for a team looking for a jumpshooting bigman.

He has to take the physical, and stick around the team (IE, sit on the bench and be an extremely well paid cheerleader). He'll also take up one of the 15 active slots on the roster.

6pt lead for the Nuggets over the Celtics right now w/5 to go. channelsurfing.net Officials a couple questionable calls both ways last two minutes - missing an obvious one then a make-up call next time down.
