That's a matter of opinion. Course I'm a little biased. If you get passed the epics of the 70s (written by a self admitted, nerdy 20-something), Neil's lyrics are some of the best out there. Especially stuff from late 80s and all through the 90s. Quote:
Not true. Aside from Limelight, I can't think of any other song that delves into this subject. Moving Pictures is being released as a download album. Older news but didn't see it posted on this thread.

I think some of The Spirit of Radio lyrics kinda hit on the same or at least similar themes -- "glittering guises and endless compromises shatter the illusion of integrity".
I'm no RUSH expert. I guess his lyrics about the troubles associated with fame just stood out to me. |

I've always perceived that as a phrase describing business of radio of the late 70s and the trials of making a 'radio hit' for bands of that era. But your point is certainly valid.

Evidently, there are going to be more than the 80 or so songs already named. There were about 20 songs that they didn't get the permissions set until after they had decided to go to manufacturing. These songs are going to be released later as free DLC. No word on what these songs are as of yet.

It appears as if Alex has played before. Neil looked very frustrated. haha. 30+ percent! smashing. Strange how as they age, Rush is becoming more public friendly and showing people they don't take themselves as seriously as non fans think they do.

Thanks to my parents giving my son a very early birthday present, we now have Rock Band for Wii. We are all loving it...I was psyched about playing drums, but have NO talent for them, so I've been elected lead singer. My son is a "guitar god" (his words, not mine) from GH3, so he's staying with that, and my husband, who was very skeptical and had no interest in playing, is excited about being our drummer. I'm kind of bummed there is no downloadable music, but really don't think we would have been getting a 360 anytime soon...between the cost, and the issues with the red ring of death, it just wasn't something we were really considering. And I've already put the track pack on our gamefly queue...it's "low availability", but it'll take us a while to get through the original disc anyway. Overall...two thumbs WAY up for Rock Band! |

Getting back into the swing of things with the new game coming out next month. Need to get back into top drumming form.
Any forum members interested in forming an online World Tour Band when the new game comes out? This would be for Xbox. Last edited by Ironhead : 08-03-2008 at 09:57 AM. |

Oh hell yeah, count me in. I keep salivating over the set list, and wonder that the 20 free DLC songs are gonna be after release. One rumor that keeps popping up is that one of the songs is "Sultans of Swing".

That would be awesome - great, great tune. There is a ton of awesome stuff in the new setlist. Add that to the DLC from the past year, plus the option to port the stuff from the 1st game over and I can't wait. Last edited by Ironhead : 08-02-2008 at 11:32 PM. |

The set list for Guitar Hero: World Tour has been released. The songs match up pretty well to what RB2 will have, and all are master recordings as well.

Man I hope they work on the interface. I got GHIII for Father's Day, mostly for the second guitar for Rock Band. Finally tried it the other day, and man did I miss Rock Band:
- The note stream was "flatter", meaning notes separated more as they came down the track. This made it more difficult to gauge the timing between notes. - UI elements are all over the screen. Rock Band does a nice job of putting everything right by the note stream, meaning I can focus on one part of the screen and get every critical piece of information I need. I kept asking my wife, who was watching me play, for info that was appearing up in the corner and other places on the screen because I did not want to abandon the note stream to figure out if something was important or just fluff. I'm not sure if I'll ever give the game a second shot, Rock Band was just so much nicer to use.

Interesting.. I started with Guitar Hero and I find the note setup/flow to be MUCH easier than Rock Band. In particular on Rock Band I have a very, very hard time doing a lot of short notes of the same button right in a row. I have some trouble on Guitar Hero with this, but tons of problems with Rock Band. Although some of that I think is that I really don't like the strum on the Rock Band guitar.

I have no idea which one I want to get... Rock Band 2 or Guitar Hero World Tour... but I see Guitar Hero has no Rage Against the Machine.

I definitely have problems hitting a string of short notes. The difference is that in GHIII, I can't tell if it's a short or long note until right before I need to hit it, as there is more parallax in the note stream. RB has a more vertical note stream, so you can tell the relative spacing much easier as the notes come on screen than you can in GHIII. It's easier to anticipate the spacing in RB than in GHIII.

Anyone know if you can use he Guitar Hero guitar for Rock Band 2, or if Rock Band 2 changed their guitar? I absolutely despised their guitar since my hand would hurt after one song.

Heh. While I like the strum bar, I can't play the GHIII guitar without it digging into my right forearm. I really need some padding there (on the guitar, not the forearm). But I do agree that the fingers on my left hand can get cramped playing the frets.

Why has no Styx music ever been released. You would think they could use any exposure possible.

I'm getting both RB2 and GH:WT. RB2 comes out on Sunday (game only, on 360). I exported all of my Rock Band 1 songs to my 360 hard drive for $5. I then traded in my Rock Band 1 disc at Blockbuster for $32 store credit. I will then use said credit to get the Rock Band 2 disc for less than $30. And I'll only need 1 disc to play over 200 songs of my library.
I will be picking up my copy in less than 24 hours at midnight at my local Lackluster. Bwahahahaha.... |

They had a pretty nasty breakup, and I'm not sure they could get everyone to agree to have the songs used. There have been several lawsuits over just who has the right to use the name Styx.

Got ours reserved and paid for at Gamestop. Can't wait to pick up RB2 tomorrow.
Now I just have to get over my "I'm self conscious about playing on medium difficulty mode so I never play multi-player" frame of mind. Cheers! |

Dola,
So for those who've done it, how do I make the transfer of songs from RB1 to RB2? I know it's a $5.00 charge, but do I physically need to have RB2 in hand to do it....or can I do it early? Thanks in advance. Cheers! |

You have to have the latest update for Rock Band to get the option, but once you do have the update you go to either options or extras, i can't remember exactly. From there you'll see the export option and you'll be good to go. |

Something new is the "no fail" mode, so you can practice entire songs with buddies on a level you wouldn't normally play. That's a godsend for those of us (aka everyone) with friends who lack musical "talent".
