Another TBS graphic jinx there. And I know Rockies fans don't want to hear it, but they have done something to get in the good graces of the baseball gods over the past month. Now, they have a very good team, but some of these hits are crazy.

DBacks are done. This Colorado team is like the "Ice Man" of MLB's Top Gun this season. They don't make mistakes and pounce when you give them a chance. I don't see Cleveland or Boston being able to derail them at this point. As a baseball fan, you can't help but be impressed. As a DBacks fan, well, you want to go cry it off in another beer

Ya, it's hard to see anybody stopping the Rockies at this point. They're a WS Sweep away from the most incredible run in baseball history. (And if a Rockies fan thinks they're going to sweep, I wouldn't find them obnoxious - just saying). |

I'd agree, but for the nine days that will pass between the NLCS and the World Series. Boy, they're going to have SO much time off coming up. I've got to think that is going to have a weird effect on any major league baseball team. |

Uh oh. We got ourselves a ballgame here. 3-run homer in the top of the 8th to make it 6-4.

My God, some of you New England sports fans are the whiniest bitches I've ever seen in my life.
"Hey, don't celebrate too much, you only won one game!" Fucking WAAAAAAH. When your team wins a playoff game, I'm sure the crowd at Fenway isn't doing polite golf claps and then heading home.

Yikes. I kind of knew of it was bad, but I really hadn't realized just how bad it was.
http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sp.../tbs_1017.html New York — The National League championship series had all the elements of a low-rated sporting event: a sweep involving two smaller-market, tradition-poor franchises. The Colorado Rockies' four-game sweep defeat of the Arizona Diamondbacks drew an average 2.8 rating for all households and a 3.3 for homes with TBS. The previous low average LCS rating was a 6.2 for the Mets' five-game victory over the Cardinals in 2000. Turner Sports president David Levy said network executives were "still very, very happy" with their seven-year deal with Major League Baseball despite a convergence of factors leading to low NLCS ratings in their first year airing the playoffs. "At some point in the package we're going to be at the high," he said, "and it will all average out to what we modeled this thing at." Improved division series ratings were a major reason for Levy's optimism. He said broadcasting all the division series games on the same network helped attract viewers by eliminating confusion. "We demonstrated with the division series that with the right blend of teams, the right markets, the right schedule and the right promoting that TBS can out-deliver or deliver comparably to broadcast television," Levy said. The Cleveland Indians' 4-2 win over the Boston Red Sox in Game 3 of the ALCS on Monday night drew a 6.6 rating on Fox.

Where's SI? I agree that ESPN drives me nuts (the Sportscenter after the Yankees-Indians series spent what seemed like 35 min on Joe Torre, and 5 min noting the Indians won), but at some level, the level of interest is just so much higher. I'm a baseball fan, but I'm far more interested in watching CLE-BOS than COL-ARI - I have no rooting interest in the latter series, just disdain (aka jealously, that the NL West will see the Giants rooted to the bottom for years). the NFL has done a wonderful job of marketing the SuperBowl and the MNF as the "sport" and not about the teams (from a gameplay standpoint, I think this is detrimental, but that's another debate) - baseball hasn't done that quite the same way. |

I'm no tv ratings guru, but I don't know that those ratings are all that bad when you consider that not only was this series on TBS (some basic cable packages don't even have TBS), but it had two west coast teams and some late start times. |

manny just went from "quirky and amusing" to "obnoxious shit" for this fan.
they weren't booing their team, they were booing ramirez for standing at the plate like he just hit a walk-off when his team is down 4 in the 6th inning. Last edited by dime : 10-16-2007 at 09:37 PM. |

This is one of those things that is supposed to be remembered some time next year when Manny gets drilled by the Indians isn't it? EDIT: The Indians radio broadcast team is talking about this same thing right now.

15-20% of the population of the US lives in Red Sox/Yankee Country - New England, New York, New Jersey. And that doesn't begin to account for the huge amount of northeast transplants throughout the US - particularly in the SF Bay Area, Florida, and the Pacific Northwest.
That's ALL there is to it - why ESPN considers those teams a priority. Last edited by molson : 10-16-2007 at 09:49 PM. |

I hope Manny gets drilled in the ribs the next time he comes up. Some of you Red Sox fans want to talk about ridiculous celebrating? Manny's standing there acting like he just hit a walk-off game winner when his team is down by four is the definition of ridiculous.

there's a BIG difference between having "personality" and placing your own personal accomplishment (likely meaningless solo HR) above your team's straits (likely going to lose the LCS). how is that not obnoxious? if I were a red sox fan, I'd be pissed that he was so happy with his little home run when his team is down 7-3 and about to go down 3-1 in the series. |

It's obnoxious, I'm not gonna lie to you. But long ago, Red Sox fans have made something of a pact with Manny. We can be upset with every little things that happens, OR, we can take him as he is, accepting the quirks along with the power, the average, the plate discipline. "Manny Being Manny" is a catch phrase very familiar to any Red Sox fan. We love the production, so we're willing to look past the "extras". And it only works because at the surface, he seems like a really nice guy - anti-media, yes, but always cool to the fans. Last edited by molson : 10-16-2007 at 10:02 PM. |
