Actually, those cartoons I thought had full endorsement from Lucasfilm and everything. They even brought in a (relatively) well-known artist (I want to say the one who did Samurai Jack) to handle the series. While not seeing those toons would not be death to understanding ROTS (which I've not seen), they do fill in a bit of detail, particularly in the latter ones that run up against the start of ROTS, judging by what I've seen on the thread.

To digress a little, though it's related to ROTS:
I can't remember where I came across this, but it is hilarious:
Star Wars Episode III: A Lost Hope

I believe the cartoons originally was just something for entertainment (non-cannon). Lucas liked how they turned out and decided to give Genndy Tartakovsky some input on how Ep 3 was to begin, so he could get the cartoons to lead up to it. So Season 1 of Clone Wars I would consider non-cannon, season 2 is cannon.

Finally saw the first volume of the clone wars cartoon. Two questions:

1) Why was Sidious trying to kill Annikan with that Sith-like chick (don't know her name)?
2) When did Shaggy become a jedi?

Do a search for Clone Wars and Cartoon Network, all those episodes, there are 5, are on the internet.

They have them here. I watched them on another page on CN so they're there, too (but I couldn't find them in my little 5 minute search).
