This thread half-makes me want to write a parody of Britney Spears' "Lucky" about Tebow.
But I never finish I start, so I won't.

This, this and more this. Even if you want to say he sucks at all other times, he's not turning the ball over and when it counts in the fourth quarter and the other team needs to stop him, they can't. I've never seen a guy get more crap for not throwing INT's, coming up big in the fourth quarter and winning games. The people who want to pretend he has nothing to do with it? You are wrong. The people who think he is the only reason? You are wrong. Al of that said, this is the most fun I've had with a Broncos team since 2005. |

As another Broncos fan, this is exactly how I feel. Tebow = fun. That's it. I don't know how he has been winning, or if he'll keep winning, or if he'll be around in 3 years or sitting on some other guys couch. All I know is, he has stirred shit up and played in some pretty memorable and incredible games over the last 6 weeks. I love it.

I'm a Broncos fan as well, but I'm not all in on Tebow yet. Orton started 6-0 and that didn't end up so well...of course he was black. (I'm looking at you Pumpy - Colin = NOT HOT). I'm still in a wait-and-see mode with Tim.
I don't know how much fun most of the game is ... I mean, last week they had 13 possessions for the game and punted on 8 of them. They scored one touchdown. Most of that was painful to watch, but I do agree that winning, especially in the division is great. I'd still trade Tebow for Andy Dalton or Cam Newton. And I've heard a couple of talk shows mention that Tebow should be the Rookie of the Year...umm, yeah.

But when you look at it, shouldn't he be? I believe Denver was 1-4 before he started, and then as soon as he got the spot they've been winning winning winning. He's pulling Q4 heroics nearly every game. And he's no surprise to opponent defenses. They key on him every game yet he's still being successful. Statistics-wise, no. But in terms of his impact to the team and making a difference, it seems to make sense to me. |

Naming Tim Tebow MVP and annointing him as the principle reason the Broncos have started winning is as absurd as Jayson Stark arguing for Shannon Stewart for MVP when he was traded from the Blue Jays to Twins, when the Twins ERA dropped 1.5 runs in final half of the season.

He's certainly on pace for it. The clear leader in the clubhouse for that award is Tom Brady's phenominal 2007 season. 398/578 for 4,806 with 50tds and 8ints for a 117.2 rating. Rodgers is currently 288/408, 3,844, 37td, 5int and a 125.3 rating. That puts him on pace for 384/544, 5,125, 49tds, 7ints...numbers all better than Brady. If he actually pulls this off, he'll do it the hard way. The last 4 opponents are all in the top 12 in defensive QB rating and 3 games will be played at the frozen tundra of GB (and the other outside in KC), whereas he's only played two defenses in the top half of the league in defensive QB rating all season (Detroit, Chicago). I'm not saying he won't do it, but if he "slumps" the last 4 weeks of the season, it's probably because he's going against tougher pass defenses in cold/bad weather. |

I don't know if I buy everything this article is selling, but I'll acknowledge what seems to be a legitimate attempt to understand the polarizing effect of Tebow.

Yeah but that's a twisted statistic. The Packers are winning all their games, so their opponents are usually playing from behind. Lots of passing and a lot less runs in that type of game. In terms of opponent QB Rating, they're 10th best. They've let 22 TD's by but intercepted 23 passes. That's actually pretty darn good. |

If I had one vote it wouldn't be for Tebow, if that's what you're asking. But there's a story being told here. He's on a winning team which is important. And he's proven how much of a difference he makes to the team, look at the W/L before and after he started playing this season. That's a lot of important things for an MVP vote. I think that the statistics aren't there so they wouldn't give it to him and there's other QB's putting together MONSTER seasons. But it's sure a lot of fun to see this Tebow story build and build as he keeps defying the odds and winning. |

OK, Aaron Rogers is MVP by a LONG SHOT. This isn't even a debate.
That said, he IS the reason the Broncos are winning. Yes, the defense is better. But this team was dead in the water when he started at QB. There are 3 reasons he's been the difference: 1) Simple, really, he's not turning the ball over. It might seem simple, but NFL QB's, especially young ones, seem to do it at a high rate. (see Ponder, Christian in the last Broncos game) 2) The running game is better because he's in there. This is another one of those no debate things. The Broncos are averaging over a yard per carry higher with him as the QB than they were with Orton. There have been zero changes to the offensive line. In short yardage situations, the Broncos were 30% with Orton and are 67% with Tebow. That means no more first and goal from the 1 turning into 1st and 10 for the other team. (see the Titans game) 3) This is the biggest one by far: His fourth quarter performance. We aren't talking just good here guys. We are talking sensational. The defense may keep the game close (outside of last Sunday), but Tebow freakin closes the game out. Look at the numbers: 57% completion 569 passing yards 9.48 yards per attempt 5 TD 1 INT 109.7 QB rating 192 rushing yards 2 rushing TD's If you take away the one loss that included the INT, his rating is over 115 in the wins. I know this is a small sample size and I know this may not continue long term, but to pretend that type of 4th quarter performance isn't a reason for the victories? Please. If Orton were in there turning it over and playing poor fourth quarters (rating of 70.1 with a worse completion percentage than Tebow, worse yards per attempt, more turnovers in fewer games and zero rushing yards) there is no way the Bronocs would have won those 6 contests. I said it earlier in the thread: If you think he's been the only reason the Broncos are winning, I think you are wrong. There are absolutely other reasons. (defense and punting game being the biggest). But he's making a clear difference in how this team is playing. When your QB puts up a rating of 115 in the fourth quarter of close games, it's not real shocking that you WIN those close games. The running game and lack of turnovers allow the defense to defend a long field which helps the point totals drastically. (look at the statistics which show how hard it is to drive for a 80+ yard TD drive in this league) He's not only a part of their wins, he's a huge part. I still don't know if he can keep it up. This week will be another big test for him (especially in the turnover area) But nothing he does in the future changes his performance in these first 7 games. |

Honestly, I have no idea why the Vikings were leaving Thomas open between the corner and the safety in the 3rd quarter on Sunday but Tebow did well in getting him the ball. People have said that it was against their 4/5th string corners but they were some well thrown balls.
He certainly looks more comfortable in the 4th quarter of games. Its just completely strange on how he puts a 4th quarter cape on and sometimes for the entire 2nd half. He is just a big tease. He shows glimpses of how terrible he can be followed by leading his team back from it on a weekly basis. I think the Hulkamania/Tebowmania is a perfect comparison. Him and Romo on the same team would be a deadly combo. Last edited by jbergey22 : 12-08-2011 at 01:08 AM. |

That stiff arm he made to throw for the TD in that last game was just sick...I have seen improvement which is all one could ask for from a 2 year QB who is getting his first real playing time. The fact they are winning the games is icing on the cake really. I also like the fact that this has to be driving Elway crazy...

It looked more like what Shutdown Corner thought to me. The safetys were completely out of position for a 2 deep zone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KxONy8_XQA I nice little video of Tebow and from another perspective of how not to play your secondary in the NFL. But yes the throws were nice but there really wasnt a tight window to fit it in since the safetys were completely out of the coverage for the most part. I read that article and quotes and laughed. Charles, do you REALLY think that if Tebow gets shut down and loses the Bears game the Tebow train stops? If anything, it just gets worse. Look, the louder the detractors are, the more coverage Tebow gets. This is only a story because Hoge and people like him ripped Tebow before the start of the season. If this were TJ Yates, we wouldn't be having some long, drawn out national debate. It'd be "Well, good for the kid, he won a few games, but he's got a long way to be an NFL QB" So now look at the two scenarios: 1) Tebow looks terrible and gets beat by the Bears (and I think this actually will happen by the way) The detractors come out in full force. The pent up rage they've had for over a month comes out and they say "SEE, WE TOLD YOU IDIOTS HE SUCKED" Then the Tebow supporters will fire back with "Wow, a team with one of the best run defenses in the game defended the run and then abused a passer who we all admit is a project?, I'm stunned" This will go back and forth for a really long time. 2) Tebow torches the Bears. 10-16, 200 yards, 2 TD, 0 turnovers, Broncos wins. Detractors - "It's just the Bears, he still sucks, it was luck" Supporters - "OK, it's half a year now. Just shut the hell up" It's over in one. |
