Do you recommend to turn off waivers and options for ootp 2006? Damn i wish Markus will finally fix the waivers, releases and trades of the AI. He has a damn new game engine. I cant beleive the same old Ai bugs that existed from past ootp versions is still in ootp 2006 new engine. It must be a code logic that Markus is not getting because same Ai bugs for waivers, trades and releases has been around from versions to versions. |

I'm pushing to get some of these frustrations, which appear to have been long standing addressed in patch 2 (http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...d.php?t=120317)

Were there any other possible reasons for being put on waivers? Maybe he had a severe ratings drop (his stats certainly seemed to drop around the same time, didn't they). Maybe he was injured and came back a shell of his former self? Just thinking out load..... Last edited by KWhit : 06-02-2006 at 10:48 AM. |

I'm at work now so I can't look at him, but no, there were no drops in ratings. He was coming off of a terrific season. He signed a 6 year contract and averaged somewhere in the area of .275 40 119 his first three years. No ratings drop and he's picked up on waivers. I saw no specific reasoning for why it would have happened. |

Well, this is interesting, in my English league I picked up a player, and the press not only thought I was paying too much for him, that I was trying to sign too many players whose glories were past.

I don't have this new version of OOTP, but I find the complexity/simplicity debate interesting. I like to move effectively through the evaluation of talent in text-sims, and FM can be overwhelming with both the amount of players and the amount of information per player. However, the one scouting section in FM lets me filter out 80-90% of the players I'm not interested in, and the star ratings let me quickly identify the 5% of the remaining players who I might be interested in. With such a system, despite the games massive database, after five minutes of tweaking scouting parameters I can look at one screen and identify 20 targets out of thousands. Amazing simplicity despite incredible complexity. If OOTP has duplicated the size and complexity of FM's database without carefully streamling the way the gamer evaluates talent (too complex scouting procedures and no star ratings), it sounds like the game would be difficult to play. Fixing this would seem to be a priority, IMHO. Last edited by Godzilla Blitz : 06-02-2006 at 12:24 PM. |

I wonder how set Markus and SI are on releasing patch 1 next week and then patch 2 much later? Looking over the forums and the number of bugs being reported, I'm just wondering if Markus can fix all the serious bugs by next week and test it to make sure new bugs aren't introduced. I think it's a good idea to get the first patch out quickly and address the more serious bugs, but I could easily see significant bugs not making it into the first patch. That approach reminds me a little of the BBCF patch that I ended up giving up on. Perhaps I'm wrong and Markus can knock out all the serious stuff in patch 1, but looking over the tech support forums gives me some doubts and I'd hate to end up waiting a long time for the second patch to address significant issues.

Bee, take a look at http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...d.php?t=120317
"The first patch will be released on Wednesday 7th June 2006. This should tackle the majority of minor issues (and some major ones) A second patch will be released (no timeframe yet) which should hopefully address the remaining stuff. " I know the support forums on the OOTP site are busy but we're logging it all (it's a mixture of game issues, feature requests and cosmetics). No matter how small we want it in there. Markus is very good at fixing bugs raised in the bug software so I'm confident of Patch 1 doing the above and I'm also confident that in patch 2 we can address some of these more major (long running) issues. I'll update everyone over the coming days as stuff gets fixed Last edited by Marc Duffy : 06-02-2006 at 12:30 PM. |

I will say this, the support does seem to be top notch from SI. I would *really* love for a way to convert my 6.5 career into 2006 and have all those reports to look at. I know the conversion is too complex for that, but one can dream. For now I'll continue to follow the threads as it does look like the game has some excellent potential - via Troy's reports. |

I'm looking through player histories as of January 1, 2014.
On pretty much every player it shows events happening in 2014 even though I'm on the first day of the year. For example I see that one of my players gets selected to the 2014 all-star game. Another has an injury that occurs in May and another that goes 0-3 against Detroit on June 16th to end his 34 game hitting streak?!?! What's going on here? |

Now, the question is. Are they actually 2013 all stars, or are they getting awards before the season starts?

Scouting question: can you click on a guy from the staff screen and tell him to do something? Or do you have to use the menu at the bottom of a team page or player page to assign duties? Also, can you cancel an assignment before it has completed?

This release of OOTP is asurprise to say the least I don't remember anyrhing quite like it as far as an OOTP or even SI game in the past having this many problems. I may be wrong.

OOTP this is normal. Its been like this, minus the UI issues, since I have known the game which was OOTP 4. Can not speak about SI.

Just kind of curious what you've had to do to setup the game initially to mirror the MLB's. How many countries are you all using, all of them? How is the sim time with everything enabled.
I'd also like to know how much fun it is to scout the other countries for talent and how do you sign them if you like them? |

My advice on this one? Read the manual and look at the scouting portion. It's pure insanity. Depending on what you want your scout to do (scout a player, team, league or nation) you have to do it from a different screen. Bookmark all the spots and make it easy on yourself. |

Sorry I missed this crapshoot. . . you might be right. I have no idea. He did sign a huge deal and maybe they just couldn't take it anymore. And Manny was placed on waivers with nobody picking him up. So I guess this isn't out of the realm of possibility. Maybe I jumped the gun and overreacted here. This is one point where the history of OOTP has influenced me. I dunno. |

I do miss more visual ratings though. I feel like I really have to think about who is a good player instead of giving a quick glimpse and seeing and knowing what kinda of player I am looking at.

I set up my league 2 days ago, but I'll try to be accurate. It was pretty easy - it defaults to a MLB type setup - with the 5 affiliated minor league levels. I skipped the Japanese leagues and any other non-MLB leagues. All the countries are in the game. You get ratings from your head scout on every player to start the game - or so it seems. There is also an SI scout that gives you some ratings on players. I've signed some players from overseas, but pretty much I just go the free agent screen and quickscout them and use those ratings with the head scout ratings. One stupid thing that happened. I found a decent outfielder in Zimbabwe. So I send someone to scout him. Then I quick scout him a few times. I sign him at the exact same time. He signs a minor league deal with me. I assign him to AA and he plays for about a week. Then I get an email from the scout I sent to Zimbabwe...... the guy went to scout a player overseas that I had already assigned to New Hampshire... and it took about 10 days. How fun is scouting: None. How fun is trading: About as fun as being drawn and quartered. Last edited by lynchjm24 : 06-02-2006 at 06:13 PM. |

Thanks lynchjm24, I've read your trading concerns over at the ootp boards. I would think (hope) Markus has taken note.
I was thinking the Japanese leagues would be fun to have since more and more players are coming in from Japan. |

Oh there are 162 Japanese players in my league. 100 or so are signed and 60 or so are sitting in free agency. For all intents and purposes you cannot make trades. I don't care if it's realistic or not - the stupid design decision I've ever seen is this ... I'll get back to you and you get an email the next day. |

This is going to be the most frustrating game of all time. It's so good in so many ways, but can be so annoying.
You get the stupid SISA scout ratings in the HTML and they are always incomplete. I can not stand when I am looking at a pitcher and it has all their batting ratings, but their pitching ratings are all dashes. Thanks for freaking nothing. |

Trading is insanity. (as is scouting) Reading through the manual, you can turn off hidden players completely. This makes you scout only guys in the minors and America. |

Here is a beauty. I just got an email from a scout who I sent to scout a team in the NY-Penn league in April. Tremendous. He has been following them 'like a hawk'. Attending several of their 'matchups'. Is he playing them out in his head?
How do you build a system like this and have such stupid things fall through the cracks? I want scouting so that I can add a little challenge, but it's worse then managing the real people that work for me. Last edited by lynchjm24 : 06-02-2006 at 06:39 PM. |

I'm sorry - I don't get this. I realize "matchups" sounds like a British scout watching football, but what's the problem with the rest of the things you pointed out?

I didn't think this would be possible, but waivers don't even work. I just DFAed a guy, and then the next day assigned him to AAA. Didn't force me to put him on waivers.

No prob- its something that worries me, but I've noticed that in 6.5 as well - some older, higher priced players will be put on waivers in the hopes of dumping the contract, and it might actually be that kind of thing. Thanks for running the humongous sim - I'm basically waiting for a lot of feedback on this. I'm convinced it will be a good game, but I'd rather wait for you lot to do a public beta. |

Can anyone help me with the email I'm getting in game. I get messages about who won the Player of the Week, but I can't get a message that one of my pitchers is out two weeks.
Is there anywhere I can set those preferences? Edit: nevermind, found it. Home Page. Left Column. Hidden at bottom. Last edited by lynchjm24 : 06-02-2006 at 07:13 PM. |

In both OOTP 6.5 leagues I've been a part of, new draftees have like a decade of history. And I've seen stats for future years. It's almost like if you have multiple leagues installed, it reuses entries from one league in another, so that if one league is a decade out, and you get to the draft in the current league, it grabs an open slot from the first league but doesn't clear out the data (so in an online league, if the commish is in multiple leagues, new draftee players seem to have awards/injuries/transaction data from one of the other leagues). It's really freaky, and really annoying.
