It's nice to not watch the play clock winding down as they break the huddle.

I thought that was a backwards/lateral pass immediately. Good job sticking with it.

I don't think that was a backward pass. Close as hell, but I don't think too close to overturn.

that's what I was worried about when I saw them doing it in the preseason. No way that gets overturned, too hard to tell.

It might be a bad thing for the Skins D if that is a turnover though.. They better suck some wind while they can.

When I saw it live I thought it was but after some replays I can't tell; which means they won't overturn it.

Liked the drive up until that moment.

It seems like every year the NFL comes closer and closer to looking like Madden. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not.

I saw the play broken down really nicely by a writer for a fantasy site. I'll link to it when I can find it again, but the difference in what he explained (with grainy pics) and what you are stating is that you're forgetting the "going to the ground" aspect of it. That's the key. He didn't catch the ball (two feet down, with control) before he started his process of going to the ground (as he jumped and leaped forward making the catch). Once his hands were on the ball, he started going down to the ground. Once you're in the process of going to the ground, you need to maintain possession all the way through, even if you are breaking the goal line.

A running back who gets the ball at the 5, sticks the ball over the GL, and fumbles it is awarded a TD because he already established possession over those 5 yards. A WR who catches a ball at the 2, gets his two feet down and starts running into the end zone under his own power, reaches over the GL and loses it gets a TD because he established possession. A WR who leaps to grab a ball, gets his two feet down at around the 2 yard line but is falling forward and to the ground, stretches the ball over the GL but loses it doesn't get a TD.

I have no idea how Winter said he saw enough to overturn it.

edit: Winter is the game ref, meant Austen as the studio guy.

I'm not sure the Philly offense can keep this up all year. They are already starting to look tired.

They can call up their NCAA colleagues to learn how to deal with sleep deprivation.

When in doubt, if the player isn't even trying to sell it, you should probably pass.

At this pace the Eagles will run 200 plays to the Redskins 10.

The Eagles are up 10-7 with great offensive explosion trumping rookie coach mistakes. Impressive start for the Eagles. Wow.

EDIT: Fixed score...

It is.

But I think it'll only be a matter of time before NFL defensive coordinators figure a way to slow it down.

I feel like the Redskins are going to end this game feeling helpless and tired as hell. Edit: And I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of "injuries" as the game wears on.

Yeah.

Griffin isn't looking to sharp so far and the defense needs the offense to run some clock, not keep handing the ball back to Philly.

They put nine seconds back on the clock due to the spot. That's what, eleven more plays the Eagles can run?

Make sure you have an effective offense yourself so you can keep the ball away. Depth at DL and lots of speed overall.

I can already see cut-blocking being outlawed by the league after this season.

Folks are high on WAS - with some good reasons - but they had a really low number of turnovers last season. If they trend back to the middle, they might disappoint.

He's got to break a run and survive getting hit. Then he'll be okay. Until then he's not playing his game. They can design a system where he doesn't need to run, but if he thinks he can't run, he's screwed.

If I were a Redskins fan I would have an issue with a defensive player that wasn't too far away from the play running after the ref to complain about being held instead of continuing to pursue the play.
