I read earlier from somewhat legitimate news (espn) that he was to meet with Brandon this afternoon and there was a 7pm team meeting to address Rodriguez & the coaching situation.

The guy who broke the story is on the radio right now saying that Brandon and Mary Sue Coleman (UM president) have been in a "tug of war" with boosters, with the boosters wanting Harbaugh, and DB and MSC wanting Hoke.

If you didn't get a pretty clear idea of what Jim Harbaugh is going to do (or at least, what he's NOT going to do) in the past several weeks, then you haven't done your job as Michigan AD. Not firing RichRod until the bowl is over makes sense considering his buyout dropped, but you have to imagine they've made some calls to Harbaugh's people. They should have a fairly good idea of whether he would come to Michigan or not. I can't imagine he would stonewall his alma mater to such an extent that it would hurt their ability to find a good replacement.

Don't fret if Brady Hoke, not Jim Harbaugh, becomes next Michigan football coach | MLive.com
Granted I started to cringe when I read he used a 3-3-5 defense at one point, but at least he changes it around based on talent. RR seemed to force his system regardless of the talent.

I love that the reasoning is pretty much "hey, if you liked our AD hire, you are REQUIRED to like his HC hire!"

Otto is a hack. His "blog" is mostly rubbish, including his reasoning behind why he thinks Chris Osgood is not HOF worthy. I don't honestly know if Hoke would be a good hire or not, I just don't know enough about him. His record in the MAC was pretty ho-hum except for the final year, and he has done well at SDSU in only two years. However, how is he with recruiting? How about motivating? And with the media?

And what if I don't like the AD hire? I'm still in wait and see mode. Regardless of who comes in, I don't expect the team to be much of anything for two years and three years will be the point where I would have actual expectations.

I have only a superficial knowledge of Hoke (just looking at his coaching record and history), but at a distant glance it sure would look like a let-down for Michigan after all the talk this year of Harbaugh and the dalliance 3 years ago with Miles.

Why isn't Miles in the conversation this time? Is it him or Michigan that isn't interested?

I think Harbaugh should be choice #1, but that is with the realization that it would likely be a 4-5 year job to rebuild & restore the program before he makes the move to the NFL. Why move to Michigan instead of the NFL now? If he does a similar job at Michigan he could have any NFL job he would want. Period. And he would get better recruits at Michigan than Stanford.
Hoke I am not as familiar with, but everything I have seen about him I believe he would be a very good hire. More of a long-term coach than Harbaugh would seem to be also. I believe that if Harbaugh ever wants to coach at Michigan, now is the time. If he ends up as another great college coach that takes over a rotten NFL team & does nothing in a few years but pave his way back to college... it wouldn't be at Michigan. Michigan will be back. Hail! To the Victors! |

From the way people are talking it will be Brady Hoke as the next HC. Apparently some boosters are trying to make a last minute charge for Harbaugh but the money won't compare to the NFL and nor should it.
Hoke to me is a guy who can grow into a great coach. He has ties all over the Midwest and California, he is adaptable and he loves the school. I don't care that he is a Michigan man and all that nonsense. He is what the program needs because he can coach. It isn't a home run hire, but I wouldn't say it is just a safe, uninspired hire either (if true). |

Does his record in the MAC concern you at all? Looking at the overall picture, he didn't appear to do much in a pathetic conference until his last year there, and then he bolted for SDSU. I am asking this in all honesty, as I don't know that much about the guy.

Ball State was a mess when he got there. He took a step back and then improved each year. In 08 he got them to their first bowl game since 1989, then went 10-2 in 2009. SDSU this year was very young and had a 9 win season with their losses @ Missouri (by 3), at BYU (by 3), @ TCU (by 5), vs Utah (by 4). |

Didn't Ball State go from 10 wins to 1 the year after Hoke left? Did he take their practice footballs with him?

Ball State was meh when he showed up 0-11, 5-6, 5-6, 6-6 in the previous 4 seasons. He then crapped around for most of a half-decade 4-8, 2-9, 4-7, 5-7, 7-6, 12-1 and struck while the iron was hot. |

Let's say Harbaugh goes to Michigan. He help turns around Michigan in 3-4 years and he gets the call to go pro. He very likely would be gone, or certainly at some point. Hoke is likely to help the program get back on it's feet and then stay there.

Pitt media reporting they're close to a hire. Could be Todd Graham which would be very interesting. He's a guy with the potential to win big there but I wouldn't want him anywhere near my program.
Wonder if he'd take some of Rich's old staff. |

Surprised that a HC who appears like he'll have plenty of opportunities either now or in the future would go to Pitt considering a) he would be going in knowing that, at best, he's their second choice and b) that athletic dept looks to be a complete and utter disaster.

This is so fucked up.
So Rich was NOT fired yet. He and David Brandon are still in a meeting and people are now saying the team meeting won't happen until tomorrow. This is coming from the Rivals guys right now. The rumor is they leaked bullshit earlier because Brandon felt their was a mole in the AD's office .. which turned out to be true obviously. So. So. So. Fucked. |

That would literally be the dumbest, most infantile thing I've ever heard of a major AD doing. If you want to test for that, you drop something about the OSU-Michigan game being moved to October again or new names for the Big Ten conferences and see if that trickles out. You don't do it by dropping a rumor that you're firing a guy, since there are no good reactions to it. |

Could be to introduce a new HC, but who knows. You'd think RR would want to talk to the team. |
