If the organizer had won, would he have tipped everyone who didn't win 10%? I don't think so.

What kind of an office do you work in? Could there be an impression among a less savvy crowd that more work goes into this than what we know to be true?

Maybe it wasn't meant as a serious e-mail? Maybe the chick likes you or thinks you're cute and just sent that playfully.

I hit 200 bucks on one of these a few years ago. I offered the guy who ran it a beer which he refused saying it was too early in the day to drink. That was the extent of my tip.

Assuming there are no further adjustments then congratulations are in order for CBS and the SB
from tvbythenumbers.com Update: Time Zone adjusted number for Undercover Boss are in, it averaged 38.6 million and was the most-watched post Super Bowl show since 2001. Super Bowl XLIV destroyed previous Super Bowl viewing records with 106.48 million average viewers and even overtook the series finale of M*A*S*H (105.97 million) as the most-watched program of all-time. As for Boss, it's performance was maybe even more impressive because so many doubted it was a good call to follow the game. * The largest audience ever for a new series following the Super Bowl since the advent of people meters in 1987. * The largest audience ever to watch the premiere episode of a reality series. * The most watched new series premiere overall on television since “The Dolly Show” on Sept. 27, 1987 (39.47m). * The third largest post-Super Bowl audience behind “Friends Special” on Jan. 28, 1996 and CBS’s SURVIVOR: THE AUSTRALIAN OUTBACK on Jan 28, 2001. * The largest audience for an entertainment program this season as well as the best ratings in households, adults 25-54, adults 18-49 and adults 18-34.

#1. Dr. Sak, congrats for standing up to that bitch. Well done.
#2. I though the Super Bowl coverage was really good. Not a lot of shots of players' families, almost no human interest nonsense. |

Although it was a long shot, I'm nearly certain that the Manning family was shown celebrating in a luxury box after the Colts regained the lead.

And the Tebow ad was also a storyline that was not there. That ad was so vague. I would have actually rather seen a pro-life ad then one that basically promotes a bigoted organization.

Very good catch. It's like the cliche of if a ref is doing his job well, you don't notice him. I'm sure NBC has taken notice and will adjust their Olympic coverage accordingly... *cough* SI

Clearly having small market teams was detrimental to the ratings.

Just got back from the Super Bowl. I really enjoyed myself. Disappointing loss, but I'm not as upset as I probably should be. Saints fans were great (except one drunk) and you could tell they appreciated it. I congratulated one guy I ran into and he had the same look on his face as I probably did after Super Bowl XLI.
Congrats to the Saints. I'm not too upset with Manning. He's got a little Favre in him whenever other phases of the game aren't working. Special Teams were awful. Defense thought the game was over at halftime. And there were odd coaching decisions. When that happens, Manning tends to try to do everything himself, and that led to the pick. Oh well, I can't be too upset. 2 Super Bowls in four years and a title. Kind of nice seeing Brees get a ring. |

Clearly having a snowstorm bury a major market was a boost to the ratings. Plus the actual rating (i.e. percentage of people watching) wasn't a record, the total number was the record. That's a simple matter of the country being a lot bigger than it used to be. (per Nielsen 83.3 million TV homes in 1983 vs 114.9 million in 2010)

The only time I've ever heard of 'tipping' on a Super Bowl pool was in the $100 or $250/square ones that my dad used to get in on and those were run by his bookie so, the bookie took a cut.

This was, pardon the pun, a perfect storm for the numbers to work out (pending final adjustment, we're still working with time zone adjusted fast nationals instead of the actual final numbers, although I believe they'll hold up in the end). Minus the storm, pretty much no one believes they get the overall record this year (but would have had a good shot at the SB record regardless). But if the game had been Favre vs Manning instead & they would have broken it regardless of weather & might have set an unbreakable mark for our lifetimes.

I agree with this. A Favre/Manning Super Bowl would have been huge. And there would have been a 50/50 chance Manning wasn't the QB to throw a costly interception. Oh well... |

I went to a Tampa Bay / Jacksonville game years and years and years ago, back when Jacksonville was an expansion team. I vividly remember each team doing their best to make sure the other team won with bad throws, turnovers, etc. The entire fourth quarter was a comedy of "here, now you have the ball" moments. The game finally ended when Jacksonville scored a TD to pull within 1, then went for 2 to try for the win rather than overtime. They of course got the last laugh, since they could ensure that the ball never crossed the goal line, and lost by 1. A Favre/Manning Super Bowl could well have had a similar epic finish

When i won our fantasy football league (for money) at work, i took the commish out to lunch. I think it cost me $7 (I work midnights, not a lot of places open besides the Coney Island). If I had got an email saying it was customary to tip, he wouldn't have gotten that.
