Possibly the worst Nathan For You ever. Still had some decent moments but nothing very memorable.

And who is the creator of Rectify?

Wait, I'm going to guess that he's a hip enough/big enough deal that everybody who likes the show already knows that bit of trivia & I'm on the short end of people who thought it was interesting to discover. (teenager is binging on old SOA episodes lately so I just spent most of a week with the guy)

Apparently there's a huge hole in the middle of SOA that I missed. I had to struggle to place that character.

Season 4 primary bad guy (and did a nice job with the role)

NBC dumps Undatable in the summer, and then burns it off, and somehow renews it? I like Chris D'elia and heard it was solid, but there's little point in checking out a "dead" show. Wish I knew what NBC was doing.

Its pretty solid in the ratings, but honestly the writing is just so-so. I dont see it going longer than 3 seasons. Ron Funches is an old friend, so i'll watch it no matter what.

The best ones in my opinion were from when Conan O'Brien was on the writing staff.

I have most of the first 7 or 8 seasons memorized but I haven't watched them in years except on DVD because the syndication in the past decade has almost always been stuck on later episodes when I watched and they just aren't that good.

I think that's shorting some of the tremendous writers they have (had?). Conan is a great writing talent but he only wrote a few episodes and was only with the show for a couple of seasons (it was 3/4 or 4/5) while the peak was much longer.

I'm as big a Simpsons fan as you will find, but I think there are a hell of a lot more good episodes than most people give credit for. It definitely went through a weak spell especially in the early 2000s but I think they kind of bounced back and are actually pretty good even now - not like seasons 1-8 maybe but still solid. Can't wait for the FX streaming site to get set up, in the meantime try "www.wtso.cc."

I'll watch one or two episodes a season and, in general, so maybe we're talking small sample size. But I think it's just not nearly as witty - it goes for different kinds of laughs. Rather than a more simple and universal humor - basically good observational humor, it relies much more on referential humor, bending much more to the Seth McFarlane model (or even a lot of Futurama). For me, the cringe factor is also up 5-fold as it was such an easy watch: edgy but rarely over the line whereas now I think the writers feel the need to really try to shoehorn in uncomfortable situations and jokes. The only thing that is the same is that I feel the amount of slapstick is pretty consistent- however, early on in the show, it was the "lowbrow" humor whereas now it's squarely in the middle with more baser comedy in the show as well.

The one based on a book that Dustin later admitted was written by someone else and thus the vast majority of it is bull. I saw the trailer, and it looks "not even alcohol can save it."

I took a detour to watch Utpoia from BBC, two 6 episode seasons of complete insanity. Its beautifully shot, up there with Hannibal in therms of the visuals (though a very different style), extremely violent and dark with no limits to who may be a victim of violence, more than a bit over the top at times, with crazy conspiracy theories all over the place, but unlike most shows, they actually get explained so the entire series isn't just about "ooo how long can we drag this mystery out".

Now that I'm finished with that I'm catching up on The Leftovers and finding myself still fascinated with it about 6 episodes in. Maybe its because of the reviewers I choose to read, but approaching it from the standpoint that the answers to what happened don't matter and aren't ever coming, and just being interested in seeing how the world reacted to what happened, keeps me quite into it.

I still have to catch up on The Bridge, and Orange Is The New Black Season 2, and it sounds like I need to get in on Rectify too. Dunno when any of that will happen though.

The leftovers has had at least 3-4 flat out brilliant episodes this season. I'll suffer through some questionable stuff if they just keep feeding as much Nora Durst as possible.

The two that I've seen that focused entirely on one individual were amazing. The one with the preacher, and the one that was 100% Nora (that's the last one I've seen).

I just caught up all the way, the most recent one was great as well. The one before was a bit weird for me, but this one was soulcrushingly good. I guess that's a decent way to describe most of the episodes though. I really, really like this show, glad it got renewed.

I binged on Nathan for You this week. In the era of streaming/DVRing shows, no other show has come close in terms of number of times I had to pause and rewind because I was laughing too hard to hear what was going on.

The little voice-overs and details (like showing Nathan being an hour and a half into a four-hour-long YouTube video of the exorcist they use for the ghost realtor) just kill me.
