Looking at everything.. I would say that Cincinnati, based on better wins should go ahead of Texas. Texas possibly hasn't beaten one team in the top 25. Nebraska will not be in the top 25 of anything after this game. Oklahoma St might be top 25, but we'll see how it shakes out.
Cinci beat, WVU, Pitt, Oregon St. Boise St beat the #7 team in the BCS and that's about it. Fresno and Nevada are both okay teams but not better than the teams Texas beat. TCU beat Clemson(too bad they didn't win tonight), Utah and BYU. None of them are really more deserving than the other.. My ranking of who should play in the NC game... 1. Bama 2. I wouldn't want to be the formula to choose. Last edited by mauchow : 12-05-2009 at 11:02 PM. |

The Va Tech people on Rivals seem unsure on where they're going. It was definitely the Peach with a Clemson win, but now they seem to think the Gator is a possibility. Invites should start to leak out soon. I'd rather see WVU/Va Tech, but the potential of beating Bowden in his last game is appealing. Either way, it's either a great rivalry matchup or a great story game. |

Hey, it works for me, don't get me wrong. I like Tennessee's chances against Clemson significantly better than their chances against Va Tech so it wouldn't hurt my feelings in the least if they get switched up. And I'm not planning to go to the game either, even if the rest of the family does (and quite possibly will if UT does indeed get the bid). About the only reason I'd willingly endure a crowd of that size in a facility I loathe would be if Iron Maiden ever comes back to Atlanta.

I almost put that -- I actually think TCU to Fiesta makes a lot of sense for travel purposes (of course, I say that having no idea where, exactly, in Texas TCU is ), but it seems like TCU-Boise State would have limited television appeal, although I'd certainly watch it. |

I would hate the BCS forever if Boise and TCU were matched up.

I would like to see Iowa play Nebraska. Imagine those two defenses (and their pathetic offenses) against each other.

Boise/TCU will be the likely scenario I bet, so they can make it the defacto Jr. National Championship and can absolve the big time teams of having to possible suffer a loss at either of their hands.

Unfortunately, there isn't a lot of "proving ground" this year for Cincy, TCU, or Boise State in bowls. Presumably, it will be Alabama and Texas in the title game. But then you only have one other top 8 team around to play against with Florida as 7 and 8 play each other in the Rose Bowl (Ohio State/Oregon). One of those three teams will be playing Florida and they get to play this year's version of 2008 Utah. But the other two will either play each other or "less glamorous" teams in Iowa or Georgia Tech. So they won't even have a good chance to "prove" much. SI

TCU beat Clemson and BYU on the road. I think one other factor for them is they literally crushed BYU and Utah who were both ranked. Games that were not even close. Tough to say what team deserves it most. If only there was a way we could find out on the football field. |

Previously linked to possible bowl games from SI and ESPN have Iowa instead of PSU. I think there needs to be one more really good team in there to make some better match ups, but it's just not there this year. Orange looks kind of "meh" if TCU shows up.

And I'll be the first to admit that Penn State does not deserve a BCS bid, but I'd love to go to the Fiesta Bowl. Then I would only have to go to the Sugar Bowl and I will have gone to all the BCS Bowl games.

I see it going down that way too. Probably some pressure from the bigger schools/conferences to not have them embarass their schools again.

I don't really have a problem with Texas getting the nod, even though I'd rather see Cincy. I do think that it is a shame that Cincy, coming off back-to-back 10+ wins seasons didn't begin the season ranked. That definitely hurt them, when you compare how highly ranked the other undefeated teams began the season.

Well it happened last year in the Poinsettia Bowl, so I'm guessing they'll do it to them again on the big stage for similar reasons. No one wants either of those teams for all of the usual reasons. Last edited by Young Drachma : 12-05-2009 at 11:14 PM. |

Boy, wouldn't it have been awful, if we had a bracket like this for the next 4 weeks (bye team in parens and assuming Florida drops to 5th- which is probably incorrect, but roll with it)?
Florida Virginia Tech (Cincinnati) Boise St Penn St (TCU) Oregon Georgia Tech (Texas) Ohio St Iowa (Alabama) SI

Yes. Think of how watered down the regular season would've been. The only reason today's games were interesting is because of the BCS. Under the old system, it would've been worse! We HAD a playoff already!! |

They might get stuck with them, that was my point. Not that anyone would choose them voluntarily, but they'd get stuck with them in the end. Or one of the bowls will just take one for the team, knowing that the other bowls don't want those matchups with either of those programs. |

The Fiesta gets 2nd pick after the Sugar, which will take Florida. I don't see why the Fiesta bowl wouldn't invite Penn State or Iowa with their first pick, since that gives them a giant alumni base from cold weather climates to snatch up tickets.

Bowl sellouts come from fans of the two teams playing and that comes down to how well the fans travel. How well fans travel is usually consistent from bowl to bowl and year to year. Quote:
If those are the matchups the championship game is a guaranteed sellout. The Rose sells out. Not sure how GT or TCU fans travel. Florida/Cincy probably falls a little short of a sellout because I can't see Cincy fans selling their allotment. Penn State will sell out their allotment, but I really doubt Boise will. Quote:
Sub in these two as matchups and the Fiesta is probably the lowest rated BCS bowl to date and won't sellout. Last edited by Atocep : 12-05-2009 at 11:28 PM. |

The whole purpose people watch a TCU or a Boise in a BCS game is to see if they can upset one of the big boys. If they play each other there is really no incentive for the average Joe to watch, hell, I a a die hard and wouldn't be all thet interested in that match up relative to soe other potential match ups

And that's exactly what the SC guys on ESPN just predicted as they went to the next batch of highlights. So what does that mean, that GT is stuck playing Iowa/Penn State in the Orange Bowl? (That's me assuming that Cincinnati goes to the Sugar) Damn, that might rival TCU/Boise for shitty ratings.

Good -- I'd love to see Rutgers play Miami w/ Schiano having several weeks to prepare. Hopefully they don't draw UNC, that'd be a tough defensive matchup.

You have to love a system where the postseason is determined by potential TV ratings and attendance. If only the NFL could find a way to get the reps from Tostitos involved in the selection of their playoff teams.
