Scout Rating for Starters
When you are planning for draft/trade/free agent moves, what do you feel is the low end current estimate that you will accept in a starter. I know there are some variables, such as man to man versus zone for defensive players. But all specialty attributes aside, in a very general sense, what is the low end you will accept? Does it differ per position?

Current estimate? I think the guy has to be at least at the "fair" range (20+). If he's lower than that I'd probably bring in a mentor if I thought the guy was worth developing.
edit: but if we're talking about a veteran than it really varies by skillset. I'm willing to use some guys mose other people wouldn't.

I'm looking at a starting tacke that has a current estimate of 54 with a potential of 58. Do I re-sign him now in the last year of his contract or not. I think I will, because my backups are in teens to twenties range.
I have bigger problems though in some other areas such as defensive secondary. The starters are in the 30-40 range, but the backups stink. |

If you get stuck looking the current estimate rating you will end up paying more and getting less out of your team. Look at the individual ratings, sometimes a guy rated 24 will fit in your scheme better than a guy rated 66, and you will also save TONS of money.

I haven't started any DB's any better than that in a long time. You can get guys rated 90+ in one coverage scheme and be rated in the 30's. And they can put up all-pro numbers if you gameplan right.
