All-time Greatest Sports Video Game Ever!
http://www.boston.com/sports/lighter...rts_videogame/
IMO, its got to be either RBI baseball, Tecmo Super Bowl, or NHL 94. I don't think any game after the Sega Genesis can really be considered the greatest. I'd still rather play Baseball Simulator 1.000 or Nintendo golf over 99% of the stuff from the past decade. |

They have Tecmo Bowl listed but do they really mean Tecmo Super Bowl? Big difference, IMO...

I don't think they are counting sequels in a series. Just the original game of a series.

I would think they group those together as one family... Even Tecmo Bowl was rather groundbreaking and fun... -Chas

Considering they just say "Madden" it seems as though that would be grouped especially with the Bo Jackson and LT references.

My most played and most fondly remembered games are Front Page Sports Football(of course), Larusa Baseball and NHL 94.
So on that list I played NHL 94 more than anything. |

Earl Weaver Baseball may be my fondest memory. That is probably because it was first for me.
I loved those little stickmen. |

I made a team called "The Eckberg Family" that totally kicked ass. Then I lent the game to a friend and when I got it back all of a sudden the Eckbergs sucked but there was a team that was awesome called "The Smith Family." Turns out the bastard had changed the names of the Eckbergs into the Smiths and then made a new sucky Eckberg team. I should have beat his ass for that...

I remember lending Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball for the SNES to a friend. The game didn't have real player names, but you could edit the teams to hold real names. I remember spending a lot of time renaming players on the teams I used... then when I got the game back, the names were all erased. ![]() |

I still remember the greatest NHL '94 moment. My older brother was good at video games, but always sucked at sports games. A bunch of our friends were over at our house and he was playing NHL '94 against his (then girlfriend) wife. She had a 1-on-1 break on him, threw him out of position by passing it off the board to herself, and then she recovered it without breaking stride and beat the goalie for the game winning goal.
I can still see it to this day and it made it so much better that there were three or four other people there to see it. ![]() |

PunchOut for me.
Of course, I stopped playing it when I KO'd Tyson in Round 2. He never laid a glove on me. Last edited by Blackadar : 08-24-2005 at 12:58 PM. |

nhl 94 was a classic...one of my apartment mates in college and i used to get a case of beer and Cluck U take out and play the allstar game with 20 minute periods. the scores would always be in the 20's and 30s and alexander mogilny and pavel bure would have 10 goals apiece.

It has to be Front Page Sports for me. This was the only sports game that my wife, Dodgerchick, played. Plus it was a great way to teach her about football. I taught her the different offensive and defensive formations due to this game. In fact this game was responsible for really getting her into football. She played the Broncos and I had the Chargers. Oh.....memories. Since then she never got into any other sports game and/or sim.
