Ann Arbor - Detroit People

Is there a better way to get from the Detroit airport to Ann Arbor than a cab (I'm not going to have a rentral car)?

I just scored a ND - Michigan ticket!!!

Thanks,
Bob

Nope. Public transportation is nonexistant in the region. They need to have a stop on the Amtrak for the airport, with a shuttle bus then running from the train to the airport. That would at least help, even though it would not be a proper solution.

I hope Michigan does not take their home opener too lightly. The Huskies are not just coming up for a payday, we want to win this thing.

I agree, I think it will be a good game. Also, my first Michigan game in a couple of seasons, so I am pumped for that.

You going to be in Ann Arbor for it?

Airport is about 30 minutes from Ann Arbor. Of course, that's on a normal day. On Notre Dame game day, I suspect unless you get there earlier, you'll be spending a lot more than that just getting from the interstate to the stadium.

Still trying to get plans together. It would be an incredible experience.

Ok, another question, in case we do get a car. What is the parking situation like for gameday? Game is at noon, should we just get there the night before?

You should be able to find plenty of parking before the game. If you're interested in tailgating, by far the best place is the golf course right across the street from the stadium. Its best to get there early, but you definitely wouldn't have to get there the night before.

I was there for the Northwestern-Michigan game, parked at some church that was charging for parking, it might have been like 10 or 15 bucks.

I have NEVER paid for parking at a Michigan game. I just pull into a subdivision, find a spot, then walk for about 1/2 mile.

We lived about a mile away. We knew it was time to leave for the game when people started parking on our street.

Take a shuttle. I always did when I went to school there. Used to cost $20 each way, but that was 10 years ago.

So Jim... Starting next year can I just park at your place? (I helped pay for it!)

The only time I've been to Ann Arbor, three of us guys were on our way up to upstate New York to visit one guy's parents before he went into the Navy. We decided to go through Michigan and Canada and cross over at Niagra since every time he drove through Ohio, something horrible happened to his car. We stopped at a Burger King to grab some good before heading into Canada and decided to take a break and eat outside the car since the restaurant part was closed. While eating, we were offered some "reefer" by a really stoned guy outside. We hastily finished eating and escaped to Canada.

Sure, I guess. But the new place is about a 22-mile walk from the stadium. I think you can do much better for free.

This is the way to go. The shuttle takes you the Union, then you can walk to the stadium. Don't know what it's like on game days, though.

Golf course is definitely the best. My bachelor party started there in 2003 before the Notre Dame game(38-0 Michigan!). We got there about 9am for a 3:30 game and people were arriving as late as 2pm to get a quick burger cooked.

Thanks! I could use the exercise since I seem to sit in front of my computer for seemingly endless hours at a time for some reason...
