Finally did it (LCD monitor)

I have been wanting an LCD monitor for my PC for years now but obviously had to wait until the technology got good enough. I just picked up a Sony SDM-HS75P TFT LCD 17" Display with 8ms pixel response time (which should be good enough for gaming and movies) and DVI input to my video card. What spurred this was that I got new glasses and I needed to have a monitor that sits farther back and lower. No way I could that with my old NEC 19" CRT.

This Sony LCD is touted for its brightness and clarity and it is an amazing difference. One thing that is obvious right away is that I can see pictures and video clips much better now whereas before they were very dark (even with brightness turned all the way up). I have not tested for action games yet but I play those maybe 25% of the time in a given year so it might be ok. From what I have read recently, they key is get something at 8ms response or lower. Most of the lower to mid range LCDs are still in the 20ms range which is probably not good enough for gaming and movies.

I've had my LCD monitor for a year or two so it's probably one of the 20ms response time and had an LCD monitor for a few years before that). I play a lot of action games (Half Life 2, Doom 3, etc.), watch movies/videos on it, etc. and never had any complaints.

Although I probably would once I saw what 8ms response time looks like.

A solid pickup. I just picked up a Samsung SyncMaster 730b (17" w/8ms resp) and I like it so much, I want to buy a second one and make my dual monitor setup look more uniformed.

17" LCD + ancient 21" CRT = LAME.

Sadly, the wife tells me to "deal with it".

Welcome to the club.

I have the 21.3 inch Samsung 213T, and I don't know how I got along before with out it! And, like sabotai, I haven't had any of the ghosting problems some others have while playing games on it.

It will be mine.

Right now I have a pretty nice CRT though, so I'm in no rush. Those Dell screens are very nice though, they have smaller versions.

WOW! That is pretty sweet! And it is less than what I paid for mine about this time last year...

They're only $660 if purchased with a new computer this week...

I have a smaller version of that monitor and it is one of the best investments I've ever made in regards to computer accessories. The upgrade in image quality is amazing.

I use a pair of 17" LCDs at work and it makes a huge difference. I used to get headaches all the time after stairing at a CRT for 8 hours every day and now I almost never do. I still use a 19" NEC CRT at home and like it okay, but bought my wife a 19" Dell Ultrasharp and its tempting me to get the 20" model. The big hold up for me is I really need 1600x1200 resolution at home and I think you need a 20"+ to get that on an LCD at a reasonable price.

So jealous. After I finally move (Condo shoppiing) I think I'll pick it up as well as a new desk.
