Martha Burke plays the Iraq card.

It's official, I dislike this woman more than any woman I've ever known.

Tarkus..

More then Hussein's momma?

I agree though. She's so tied up in the message that she's forgotten all sense of proportion

Um, okay, I probably went a little far there, but you get the point.

What I love was the women protesting against her a little while back, had me chuckling for a while.

Way I figure it, they should let her and Tiger go one on one for 18 holes, if she wins, they open the club up. If not, she gets to go home and her 15 minutes of fame is over.

this line sums it up for me

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Martha Burk thinks war with Iraq would ''alter the tone and

possibly the size'' of her planned protest during the Masters.

Does protesting actually work? If I was Hootie, I would just stand inside of my country club, and laugh at her as she protests.

Is she saying anything about soldiers over there in Iraq, putting their lives on the line, that cannot legally buy a beer here? That sounds like more of an outrage than the membership demographics in a private golf club.

Illini,

Protesting does work. No question about it. How much it works depends on the resolve of the club or organization in question. When enough people do it, it works quite well.

This quote makes me laugh:
"Broadcasting the Masters now and showcasing a club that discriminates against women is an insult to the nearly quarter million women in the U.S. armed forces"

What about the men in the military who could never be members there, why aren't you fighting for them? If anyone is sexist in all this, its Martha Burke. To try and compare rich, white socialite women to those in war is appalling.

Ask someone in the military aged 18-20 about purchasing alcohol. Quite legal on base.

OK, I'm the arse today -- I've been informed by my Marine Corps 2nd cousin, that it USED to be legal for 18-20 YO's to purchase alcohol on base, but in most places that is no longer the case.

dac,

Unless something has changed, there is no FEDERAL restriction to 21. The agreement is (or was) that the military would honor the local laws. So in the states, it is 21. Things may have changed.

The point that you can serve, but not be served is still valid.

If Fritz runs for an office it will be on the "Single Age of Majority" platform.

I knew the military guys could not buy here, which is why my best friend, when stationed in Montana, went across the border to Canada to party. My other pal in the military got sent overseas for a little while at least once a year, and that's when he really drank heavily. Once we all hit 21 it was a non-issue, of course, but it has been this way for at least 12 years.

If ever there was a line for Martha Burke to have crossed, this was it. She's now officiially a nutcase and an asshole. Using a war to push her own agenda, as if they had anything in common...disgusting.

She's surprised women will fight for their country even though Augusta won't let them become full members? Here's a clue Martha, NO ONE FUCKING CARES!

I'm surprised men will fight for their country when they face discrimination at home when women's health clubs won't let them join. Fuck you!

Does anyone ask her about the clubs that are womyn only? Schools that are white or black only? She just wants her name in the headlines. Can she even golf?

The fact that when I turn 18 I could be drafted to a war, but I can't drink is pathetic. So we're old enough to die in a war, but not old enough to have some alcohol?

As sabotai mentioned, the fact that she used the war to pust her own agenda is really terrible
