OT - Beware of the Countrywide $2.50 checks

They have mailed these checks out and they look just like regular checks with a note that says something like, "This is yours to cash, simply to thank you for being a countrywide customer....and trying out our Warranty program." then on the back it explains that by cashing it you are signing up fora $35/month warranty program...I already called their customer service line and the operator said that theyre getting hammered today about it. If you want to complain the number to their corporate offices is:

1-818-225-3000

When the secretary answers tell her you have a "complaint regarding the corporation mailing out these checks to customer duping them into the warranty program."

When they get investigated by DFS, have them call me.

Explain to me why this is a bad deal.

Oh, and while you're at it, please explain why 2 apple pies for $1.00 is better than 1 for 79 cents.

I hate those, I get those all the time.

My fiancee used to work in a collections agency, and she said they have reserve money, and send out small amount checks like that to people who owe money. Once they cash the check, the voided check would come back with the persons bank account info.

I guess asking people to look over the entire check they get before cashing it is way too much to ask for. Anyone who is dumb enough to cash a check before looking it over deserves to get raped in the ass (figuratively speaking).

And my credit card company send me these everyone once in awhile too. Right into the shredder they go.

Usually when I least expect it. However, sometimes I have silent voices in my head telling me to expect one in the near future.

I think you're all missing the most important part here. This could be a good client for me.

Hey, speaking of $2.50 checks, my grandma got one the other day and cashed it. Nothing like getting $2.50, for FREE!! Go grandma!

Is it sonovabitch? Or is it sonuvabitch? If it is sonovabitch, why not simply make it sonofabitch? Of course you're the lawywer, so you probably know the legal difference but can't tell me because it would be billable time that you know I wouldn't pay. You sorry sonovabitch.

If people weren't stupid enough to fall for this shit, they wouldn't do it. It's that simple.
