Wow, a bowling sim! Which one did you get? In the Lane? Strike Frenzy? Fat Guys in Ugly Shoes? Wouldn't a bowling dynasty be pretty boring? Seriously, glad to see Rutgers is taking the field again, good luck! |

Odds & Ends
1. We've made no staff moves this year. I really feel that we're 'on the brink' so I'm almost afraid to touch anything. 2. We've bumped up practice time to 20 (from 19). We've steadily increased it one point a year from 15 and i think we will be staying at 20 for the forseeable future. 3. Available scholarships - I had a few too many scholarships on the team so we needed to make some cuts...Say good-bye to: QB Lewis Meadows (I told you we'd cut his sorry ass) G Hardy Lincoln (freshman who looked terrible) C Luther Shapiro C Wade Van Caeyzeele (both these centers were going nowhere fast After these cuts I will have 14 graduating players who are currently under scholarship. I will bring in 13-15 scholarship players this year. One last piece of news: Vincent Feagles, a kicker, has left your team because of a lack of playing time. |

2007 Rutgers Schedule
Code:
Schedule Review We elected not to raise ticket prices, figuring a successful season would bring the fans in this year - we want as many as possible right now. Plus if we're good we should get some TV cash. Week 2 vs Duke is in the last year of a home-and-home series. We decided that for our remaining unscheduled game we wanted a definite win. We attempted to get UAB to come play at Rutgers but couldn't get it done. Instead we agreed to play on the road this year in the first game of a home-and-home. Sticking it in week 1 gives us the hope of getting some TV coverage, the real downside is we are now playing seven road games and only 4 home games this year...ouch! |

Rutgers against 2007 opponents

UAB, Duke, and Connecticut should be definite wins to open the season 3-0. The we travel to West Virginia (a team I expect to beat this year) before having BYU at home. Though we've never beaten BYU I think this could be the first year. After that our conference schedule opens up. While Princeton should be a definite win the rest are really up in the air. If we can must 4 conference wins we should definitely be going to a bowl game this season! |

Great job in cutting Meadows. I'm looking forward to a "Remembering Terry Jackson" specail. And here's to Tony Richards staying healthy and leading us (I've been reading from the beginning so I can say "us") to a winning season and hopefully a bowl game. |

Rufus Wallace of Michigan has been named Coach of the Year for his performance this past season. This is Rufus' 3rd coach of the year award. I see another 50 in his future. Coaching Moves Michigan State has hired James Konruff from Nevada-Las Vegas as its new head coach. Nebraska has hired Gino Doyle from Auburn as its new head coach. Clemson has hired Jose Yoo from Arkansas State as its new head coach. Colorado State has hired Ernest Fisk from Rice as its new head coach. Rice has hired Moe Armstrong from Waipahu as its new head coach. The schools who had coaches stolen then hired some new guys: Waipahu has hired Jay Peltier as its new head coach. Arkansas State has hired Lee Oliver as its new head coach. Nevada-Las Vegas has hired Nate McIntyre as its new head coach. Auburn has hired Darrell Prescott as its new head coach. Code:

Our Conference is looking pretty damn tough as always. 3 teams in the top 25, 2 more just outside it. One good thing about it is if we can beat these teams we will climb the polls quickly. |

Welcome Freshman!
Code:
RB Kelvin Humphrey will never be more than a backup. our pursuit for an heir to Carlton Duncan must proceed. TE Stan O'Donnell his potential is esentially identical to our current starter, C.J. Rodriguez. he may be a true impact player in his junior year. WR Lewis Solik will develop into a #2 or very good #3 receiver WR Deron Wilkins will be a #3 or 4 reciever after red-shirting WR Darnell Hawkins will take up roster space and go to class. C Scott Hanson i hope he never has to start for us. we need to get moving on finding a young center. K Isaac Mast will be a fine kicker, I hope he doesn't leave early due to lack of playing time K Raymond Cohen he's a walk on, he'll never give us much DE Joel Bradley should be a fairly good all-around DE in about 2 years DE Bryan McCrary has some potential for greatness...but the key is that it is ALL potential at this point DE Vincent Jamison just taking up space DE Myron Muncy just terrible ILB Lincoln Wayne will be a good #5 or so in a few years, won't ever start OLB Ross Rojas should become a very nice player given some time to develop. S Ralph Newhart should be pretty good after some time. Overall this recruiting class is very disappointing. We need to get to work on bringing in depth at QB, RB, and Defensive line. |

i'm really glad to see public opinion supported cutting Lewis Meadows...what a f-'in coach-killer he was. He put 10 years worth of gray hairs on my head. We're planning a Terry Jackson retrospective, but i'm not sure whether to wait until he is alive again in FOF4 before i do something. Hopefully in a few years we'll also get to bring him up when he's inducted into the college hall of fame! |

This is easily the best the defensive backfield has been since I've been here at Rutgers. Anglewicz and Irwin should do an alright at CB, and Jamison and Clark are ready to jump in and give them a rest. At safety it's Sawyer and Bidwell all the way. Cb's Harvey Jamison and Justin Clark should also see some backup time at safety. |

Week 1 Review
Rutgers Scarlet Knights (0-0) at University of Alabama at Birmingham Blazers (0-0) last meeting: we have never played UAB The Coaches Poll ranked Rutgers #90 and UAB #119 We were favored by 3 on the road weather: 78 degrees and fair ugh, we were one of only a handful of games to not be on TV. The game started out exactly as we would have dreamed; We stuffed UAB, forcing them to go 3 and out. Our opening drive of the year was flawless, we ran an passed downfield with ease - ending with QB Tony Richard hitting TE C.J. Rodriguez for a 16 yard touchdown! We continued to own UAB in the first quarter, forcing them 3-and-out on their first four posessions. And the game was quickly 28-0. At the end of the first quarter we had 188 yards of offense and UAB had 14. With 5 minutes remaining in the first half, Tony Richard broke the school record with his 5th TD pass, a slant to WR Cole Upshaw! Even though he could have shattered NCAA records, the offensive coordinator decided to rest Tony Richard at this point...before the end of the first halF even. Damn. Anyway, the rout was on and we had ourselves a convincing opening day victory! Final Score: Rutgers 59, UAB 10 Player of the Week nominees: RB Carlton Duncan - 25 carries for 115 yards, 4 receptions 17 yards 2 touchdowns QB Tony Richard 12-0f-20 for 159 yards, 5 touchdowns 1 INT WR Cole Upshaw 5 catches 53 yards, 2 touchdowns. 1 kickoff return 89 yards for a TD ILB James Zandofsky 4 tackles, 2 assists, 2 sacks, 2 passes defensed Injury Report DT Alvin Desantis torn thumb ligament 'doubtful' for 8 weeks. We may have to try to play him through this because we are terribly thin on the Defensive Line. Recruiting Dream Recruit #1 DE Marvin Baumhackl Hailing from Mechanicsburg, PA, Marvin appears to be a solid run-stuffer with his 6'3" 247 frame. Marvin is extremely interested in academics (Business) and staying close to home, so we feel we have a solid chance at landing him. Blue-Chip Recruit TE Ike Robbins A big guy with hands, especially adept at snagging passes in traffic. At 6'2" 216 lbs he has the size to be an excellent run blocker as well. His priorities are staying close to home (only Army is closer) and studying Geology - where we have one of out strongest academic programs. He's from Ridgewood, NJ. In other recruiting... We focused a lot on the big-time players in week 1. The one distinctive thing I saw was no stellar QB's in our tri-state recruiting area, a bit of a letdown. Conference Snapshot Pitt lost at #9 Stanford 23-20 Princeton lost at #22 New Mexico State 16-14 Hey, after one week we're the top team in the conference! |

#21 Rutgers Scarlet Knights (1-0) at Duke Blue Devils (0-0) last meeting: In the last game of last season, we absolutely blew it and lost 10-7 in overtime at home. The Coaches Poll ranked Rutgers #21 and Duke #113 Duke was favored by 3 at home weather: 75 degrees and stormy no TV coverage Again we kicked off and the defense came out revved up. We stopped Duke 3-and-out and put our offense on the field early. Let by crisp Tony Richard passing we bolted downfield and eventually scored on a 5 yard Carlton Duncan run. On our next posession Tony Richard hit Jimmy Brooks with a perfect pass on a deep route for a42 yard touchdown. The same play worked again on our next posession, this time for a 41 yard TD to Brooks We were hit with bad news when QB Tony Richard limped off the field in the second quarter, he would not return. Luckily the game was already out of hand at that point Final Score: Rutgers 41, Duke 14 Player of the Week nominees: RB Carlton Duncan - 39 carries for 98 yards 3 touchdowns. WR Jimmy Brooks - 9 catches, 220 yards, 2 touchdowns QB Tony Richard - 9-for-11 194 yards, 2 touchdowns Injury Report DT Alvin Desantis torn thumb ligament 'doubtful' for 8 weeks. We may have to try to play him through this because we are terribly thin on the Defensive Line. Qb Tony Richard is out 3 weeks with a hyperextended knee. This might not be too big a deal if Byron Pfaff can get us a win at U-Conn. After the Connecticut game we have a week off before going to West Virginia. RB Carlton Duncan is probable with a bruised ribcage. He's played through injuried both his years here, so this shouldn't be an exception. Recruiting Dream Recruit DE Marvin Baumhackl Hailing from Mechanicsburg, PA, Marvin appears to be a solid run-stuffer with his 6'3" 247 frame. Marvin is extremely interested in academics (Business) and staying close to home, so we feel we have a solid chance at landing him. Blue-Chip Recruits T Kurt Perkins A 6-5 283 monster from Hastings on Hudson, NY Kurt is just what we are looking for. Kurt is extremely interested in staying close to home and getting a good education...we think we've got us a player! TE Ike Robbins A big guy with hands, especially adept at snagging passes in traffic. At 6'2" 216 lbs he has the size to be an excellent run blocker as well. His priorities are staying close to home (only Army is closer) and studying Geology - where we have one of out strongest academic programs. He's from Ridgewood, NJ. In other recruiting... T Herb Prescott for North Plainfield has been offered a scholarship. Hailing from my own hometown , Herb falls under my house rule of automatically offering scholarships to players from North Plainfield or New Brunswick (both New Jersey). Conference Snapshot #23 Maryland 48, West Virginia 7 #16 Texas A&M 38, Pitt 28 #19 Miami 31, Louisiana-Monroe 24 #2 Syracuse 41, Tennessee 10 Princeton 31, Navy 28 #13 Virginia Tech 34, South Carolina 31 Conference play still hasn't started. |

Week 3 Review
#21 Rutgers Scarlet Knights (2-0) at Connecticut Huskies (0-1) last meeting: Last year at Rutgers it wasn't all that close, we won 37-24 The Coaches Poll ranked Rutgers #47 and Duke #101 The line was even on the game weather: 65 degrees and fair Catch the game on TV5 QB Tony Richard missed the game due to a hyperextended knee. Byron Pfaff started in his absence. Our offense looked lost without Tony Richard early. Despite decent running by Carlton Duncan, we couldn't string anythin together. U-Conn was winning a field position battle and went up 10-0 on short drives. Momentum swung our way on an interception of a screen pass by defensive tackle Albert Haynsworth. 2 huge runs by Carlton Duncan pulled us to 10-7 at the half. In the 3rd quarter our defense seemed to collapse, and U-Conn scored two quick touchdowns to go up 24-7. Just when it looked hopeless, near the end of the 3rd we got back into the game when CB Harvey Jamison intercepted a pass and ran it back 81 yards for a touchdown. 24-14. Things were looking up when we marched 95 yards on our next posession to pull withing a field goal, 24-21. With 52 seconds we had the ball at our 34. The first play was a 37 yard pass to Cole Upshaw, putting us just about in field goal range. We tried to catch them off-guard with a draw up the middle, but Carlton Duncan only gained 1 yard. Kicker Victor Fragomeni bailed us out with a 45 yard field goal to send it to overtime! We won the toss and started on defense. UConn quickly socred a touchdown on 3 plays, putting us in a tough position. On our first play, Byron Pfaff's pass was intercepted and returned 88 yards for a touchdown. We're probably the only team ever to lose an overtime game by more than one score. Chalk this one up to not having Tony Richard on the field. Final Score: Connecticut 37, Rutgers 24 (OT) Player of the Week nominees: RB Carlton Duncan - 29 carries, 143 yards 1 touchdown CB Harvey Jamison - 2 interceptions 1 touchdown G Chad Sinceno - 4 of 12 key run blocks, no sacks allowed Injury Report DT Alvin Desantis has been upgraded to 'questionable' with his torn thumb ligament. He's still been playing well while hurt. QB Tony Richard is listed as questionable, and will play against West Virginia after our week off. RB Carlton Duncan is probable with a bruised ribcage. He's played well while hurt (as usual). Recruiting Dream Recruit #2 CB Cedric Wolfe From Elmsford, NY Cedric is a typical lock-on man-to-man coverage corner. A bit undersized at 5'9" 167 lbs, Cedric won't offer too much in run support but can shut down a receiver. In 6 games he already has 9 interceptions. His priorities for school selection are a strong desire to stay close to home, and attending a prestiguous school. While Rutgers hasn't historically been a powerhouse, we're trying to sell him on helping turn around the program. ---updates--- DE Marvin Baumhackl Ohio State is also offering Marvin a scholarship, but we have better academics and are located closer to his hometown of Mechanicsburg, PA. Blue-Chip Recruits S Grady Worden Grady is an outstanding free safety from Wrightsville, PA. With 12 interceptions in 6 games Grady has been a disruptive force and has also recorded 49 tackles. Grady is considered the 37th best prospect in the nation and is looking to stay close to home and get a degree in Jurisprudence. ---updates--- T Kurt Perkins North Carolina and Washington are also speaking with Kurt, but we are the only scholarship offer right now. TE Ike Robbins U-Conn and Indiana have also offered this big guy a scholarship, but we still feel we're in the lead. In other recruiting... This year isn't bringing us exactly what we were hoping for. While we're looking for a big-time running back and quarterback to provide depth, they are nowhere to be found. We also have to haul in a solid center and more offensive line depth. Next week we will turn our focus a bit more towards the d-line as well. Conference Snapshot #17 Boston College 45, San Jose State 17 #16 Miami 28, Buffalo 21 #8 Central Florida 33, Princeton 7 #10 Virginia Tech 49, Kent 14 West Virginia 55, Oregon State 21 one more week until conference play begins...

Weeks 4-5 Review
We had week 4 off to heal, and stew over the U-Conn loss before heading to West Virginia. Recruting results from that week are below. Rutgers Scarlet Knights (2-1) at West Virginia Mountaineers (1-2) last meeting: last year we upset West Virginia (at W.V.) 24-17 The Coaches Poll ranked Rutgers #58 and West Virginia #87 We were favored by 6 on the road. weather: 59 degrees and fair No TV coverage pre-existing injuries DT Alvin Desantis torn thumb ligament questionable QB Tony Richard hyper-extended knee probable RB Carlton Duncan bruised ribs probable All 3 players who were hurt decided to play with the pain. ------------------------------- Tony Richard was rusty early - throwing an interception on his very first pass. West Virginia would turn it into a field goal for an early 3-0 lead. After we went 3 and out, West Virginia drove downfield for a 10-0 lead. Just as our offense got going we ran out of time, and settled for a field goal instead of working for a touchdown at the very end of the first half. 10-3. After a 2nd Tony Richard interception, West Virginia drove 80 yards to go up 16-3 (missed extra point) with 6 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter. A holding call on our kick return started us at our 2, and Carlton Duncan was stuffed for a safety to make it 18-3. In the 4th quarter We got back in the game when recovering a fumble on the West Virginia 5 yard line. 2 plays later Tony Richard found WR Jimmy Brooks to make it 18-10. With 5 minutes remaining Tony Richard drove us 80 yards and found Jimmy Brooks again in the endzone. It was 18-16 pending the 2 point conversion attempt....Tony Richard found Cole Upshaw to tie it at 18! After trading punts the game went to overtime (a period which has never been kind to us). West Virginia won the toss and decided to play defense first. 1st and 10 - our pass is blocked down 2nd and 10 - Tony Richard scrambles for 4 yards 3rd and 6 - Carlton Duncan is stuffed. 4th and 6 - Victor Fragomeni misses the field goal...oh god not again West Virginia's posession 1st and 10 - 4 yard run 2nd and 6 - 1 yard loss 3rd and 7 - 7 yard pass completion 1st and 10 - incomplete 2nd and 10 - we intercept it in the end zone! it's not over yet! Overtime 2 - W.V. on offense: 1st and 10 - they are hit for a 3 yard loss 2nd and 13 - incomplete pass 3rd and 13 - incomplete pass 4th and 13 - 2 yard gain, the ball goes over on downs! Our posession: 1st and 10 - Carlton Duncan gets stuffed 2ns and 10 - Duncan gets 3 yards 3rd and 7 - A completiong for 9 yards, first down! 1st and 10 - Duncan is stuffed 2nd and 10 - completion for 4 yards 3rd and 6 - incomplete pass 4th and 6 - Victor Fragomeni puts it through the uprights and we win! We escaped on a day when our offense was almost non-existent. Final Score: Rutgers 21, West Virginia 18 (2 OT) Player of the Week nominees: ILB James Zandofsky - 10 tackles, 2 assists, 2 sacks DE Terrell Terrell - 6 tackles, 1 assist, 2.5 sacks RB Carlton Duncan - 28 carries for 93 yards Injury Report QB Tony Richard is now completely fine. DT Alvin Desantis has been downgraded to 'doubtful' with his torn thumb ligament. RB Carlton Duncan is probable with a bruised ribcage. He's played well while hurt (as usual). Recruiting Dream Recruit #3 - DT Vinny Hoover 6'1" 229 pounds out of Vestal, New York. Vinny is a big-time run plugger who absolutely disrupts the middle of an opponents offensive line. In 9 games he has recorded 73 tackles and 9.5 sacks. With academics and distance to home being his top priorites we think our odds of signing him are pretty good. ---updates--- DE Marvin Baumhackl Marvin is now a hot commodity, but we are offering by far the best Business program. Ohio State, Tennessee, Purdue, and Pitt are all offering him scholarships as well. CB Cedric Wolfe I don't know what to make of our chances with Cedric. We are easily the closest school interested in him (his top priority), but he's also interested in historically great programs. Notre Dame, Washington, and Oregon are applying some pressure. Blue-Chip Recruits Number 5 - CB Edgar Fife A cover guy - 5'9" 172 lbs from Yorkshire, NY. Has 41 tackles, 5 sacks, and 7 interceptions in 9 games. Rates academics (Economics) and distance as his top two priorities. Our chances are good. ---updates--- S Grady Worden Michigan, Texas, Oregon, and Syracuse are all after this guy...we're not losing this one without a fight! T Kurt Perkins Akron is the only other school offering a scholarship at the moment, but some other big schools are interested in him. TE Ike Robbins Virginia, Indiana, and Baylor all want his as well. Although I think we may land him I'm considering revoking our offer and going after another TE. RB Ross Lincoln Fresno State has also offered him a scholarship. I stand firm in my belief that we've uncovered an overlooked gem. In other recruiting... It's hard not to just take what the field of recruits is giving us, but it's got me concerned about the QB position. We're going to have to take another very close look at what's available next week. rejections S Grady Worden will attend Michigan next season. Conference Snapshot Code:

Week 6 Review
#8 Brigham Young Cougars (4-0) at Rutgers Scarlet Knights (3-1) last meeting: BYU barely escaped with a victory 31-27 last year at Rutgers The Coaches Poll ranked Rutgers #53 and BYU #8 BYU was favored by 13 on the road weather: 82 degrees and fair No TV coverage pre-existing injuries DT Alvin Desantis torn thumb ligament doubtful RB Carlton Duncan bruised ribs probable Tony Richard didn't look like himself last week, and in the early going he looked rusty again. We came out totally flat on offense, and BYU jumped on us 7-0 early. Throughout most of the first half Tony Richard continued to look shakey, probably due to the fact that the offensive line was letting up more sacks than I ever remember seeing. Finally our offense found a rhythm, and Tony Richard found Jimmy Brooks just before halftime to let us take a 10-7 lead. On their second drive of the second half, BYU passed downfield to regain the lead 14-10. At the end of the 3rd they extended it to 21-10, and their offense now seemed to be cruising. When it looked like BYU was about to put the nail in the coffin, last weeks hero CB Eugene Anglewicz interecepted another pass in the endozne to stop BYU from going up 28-19. The ensuing drive looked good but then stalled, forcing us to settle for a 55 yard VIctor Fragomeni field goal to pull within 8, 21-13. We would get the ball back with 5 minutes remaining but couldn't put anything together. When we punted back with 4 minutes remaining, we knew our defense would need to come to the rescue. Sadly it didn't and BYU ran out the clock. Final Score: BYU 21, Rutgers 13 Player of the Week nominees: ILB James Zandofsky - 15 tackles, 4 assists, 3.5 sacks -- was named national defensive player of the week! Code:
Recruiting Dream Recruit Updates ---updates--- DE Marvin Baumhackl Is visiting Ohio State and Tennessee, should still commit to us. CB Cedric Wolfe Is visiting Notre Dame and Washington...my confidence is dropping here. DT Vinny Hoover Ball State is the only other school offering him a scholarship, so things are looking good! Blue-Chip Recruits Number 6 - Safety Sean Walls 6'0" 178 lbs out of Lancaster, NY. Sean is very good in pass coverage, and comes from a very solid high school program. His priorities are distance and academics (the ususal brainiac recruit we go after). ---updates--- S Grady Worden was lost to Michigan. T Kurt Perkins Army and Akron are offering scholarships...I think he'll definitely be ours. TE Ike Robbins gone, gone, gone to Virginia. damn. RB Ross Lincoln Surprisingly decided to visit Central Flordia first...should still be ours regardless. CB Edgar Fife Is visiting Penn State and Wisconsin, but if he checks us out I think he'll end up staying closer to home. In other recruiting... The QB situation looks bleak. rejections Ike Robbins, a tight end, has decided not to accept your offer and will attend Virginia next season. Code:

Rutgers Scarlet Knights (3-2) at Pitt Panthers (2-2) last meeting: last year at Rutgers we shocked the #6 team in the nation, winning 16-10 The Coaches Poll ranked Rutgers #62 and Pitt #40 Pitt was favored by 9 at home weather: 64 degrees and fair The game was broadcast on the amazing TV5 channel pre-existing injuries DT Alvin Desantis torn thumb ligament questionable (6 weeks) RB Carlton Duncan bruised ribcage probable (1 week) QB Tony Richard broken hand probable (7 weeks) ILB Ike Summers bruised shoulder probable (1 week) Our offense was non-existent for the entire first half and so was our run defense. Pitt was plowing our D-line up and down the field while our offense was perfecting the 3-and-out. We were down 14-0 at the half. On our first posession of the second half, we kept ourselves alive with a 77 yard TD pass to WR Jimmy Brooks. But on their next posession Pitt strung together a long, consistent drive and got the TD back , 21-7 With the first play of the 4th quarter, Pitt put the game away with another touchdown, 28-7. It was much too late to do anything. Final Score: Pitt 31, Rutgers 10 Player of the Week nominees: none! Code:
Dream Recruit #4 - Tackle Quinn Harrison 6'3" 256 lb monster from Brooklyn. Considered the 50th best player in his state, and #590 nationally, we hope Quinn's desire to stay close to home will pre-empt his desire to play for a prestigious school. ---updates--- DE Marvin Baumhackl Is visiting Ohio State and Tennessee ahead of us...is it getting hot in here? CB Cedric Wolfe Is now visiting Syracuse...i'd bet he'll end up there. damn. DT Vinny Hoover Ball State is still the only other school offering him a scholarship, i hope we land this guy. Blue-Chip Recruits Number 7 - ILB Rufus Torres 6'0" 206 lbs from East Bloomfield, NY. A big time run stuffer with 81 tackles and 5 sacks in 9 games. Is interested in a good Medicine program and staying close to home. ---updates--- T Kurt Perkins Is visiting Army (the only other closer school), but our academics are much better. RB Ross Lincoln Is visiting Central Florida and Virginia Tech ahead of us... ugh! He had better come play here. CB Edgar Fife Is visiting Army and Penn State, who are closer to home. S Sean Walls is visiting Marshall and Pitt...we need some visiters, i'm getting really nervous. In other recruiting... things are getting scary...no one is really visiting and we're losing out on some guys we really want badly. rejections Bernie Farber, a center, has decided not to accept your offer and will attend Buffalo next season. Freshman Center Scott Hanson was caught committing a team violation and has been suspended for the remainder of the season by Coach C.T.Homer was unavailable for comment, but one has to imagine he isn't happy. Having already spoken out this season about the lack of quality at center (displayed on the field when moving guard Chad Sinceno inside to center), this makes the position an even larger issue for the remainder of the season. |

Weeks 8 & 9 Review
We had week 8 off, recruiting results of both weeks are shown below. Boston College Golden Eagles (4-2) at Rutgers Scarlet Knights (3-3) last meeting: last year at Rutgers we rocked B.C. 35-6. The Coaches Poll ranked Rutgers #75 and B.C. #28 B.C. was favored by 6 on the road. weather: 58 degrees and fair no TV coverage pre-existing injuries DT Alvin Desantis torn thumb ligament questionable (5 weeks) QB Tony Richard broken hand probable (5 weeks) WR Duane Wheeler high ankle sprain out (25 weeks) Clutch plays by both defenses kept the game scoreless throught the first half. Our offense was choking up a storm, and we came away scoreless on two different posessions. On those posessions we had first and goal from B.C.'s 1 and 2 yard lines. I couldn't shake the feeling that those missing points would kill us. In the 3rd quarter both teams got on the board with field goals. B.C crossed the goal line first with a TD on the opening play of the 4th quarter. We went 3 and out on our next posession and punted the ball away. Our defense got us in the game with a huge play, we forced and recovered a fumble at the B.C. 36 yard line. RB Carlton Duncan would score after a few runs to knot the game at 10. B.C. would be forced to punt again on their next posession, but disaster struck as me fumbled the punt and Boston College recovered deep in our zone. Boston College scored to put themselves up 17-10 with just 3 minutes remaining. As has been the story this year, we choked in our attempt to tie it and the game was lost. We need some sort of injection of courage and clutch. Final Score: Boston College 17, Rutgers 10 Player of the Week nominees: none Injury Report DT Alvin Desantis torn thumb ligament questionable (4 weeks) QB Tony Richard broken hand probable (4 weeks) WR Duane Wheeler high ankle sprain out (24 weeks) WR Walt Irwin influenza probable (1 week) Recruiting Dream Recruit #5 - Safety Vince Alston 5'11" 178 lbs from Englishtown, NJ. A great cover guy who is ranked #347 overall in the nation. He's an excellent student and wants to pursue Calculus in college. As usual academics and distance are his priorities. ---updates--- DE Marvin Baumhackl Yes! he's coming to Rutgers! CB Cedric Wolfe we have ourselves a Scarlet Knight! DT Vinny Hoover Has made up his mind to play for us! T Quinn Harrison Is visiting us and it looks like we should land him. Blue-Chip Recruits Number 7 - OLB Sherman Hungate 5'10" 188 lb, quick to the ball guy from Panama, NY. Has 70 tackles, 5 sacks, and 4 interceptions in 10 games. Favors academics and team prestige, and has a few other equally qualified schools looking at him. Number 8 - QB Sean Sutton 6'1" 188 lbs out of Quarreyville, PA. Although he doesn't look outstanding, we need some depth and he was amongst the best available prospects for us. He apparently was quite interested, because he committed right away! Has accepted our offer! ---updates--- T Kurt Perkins He have a Scarlet Knight! Although he'll probably need some time to develop, we're very excited to land Kurt! RB Ross Lincoln Has made up his mind, and he will play for Rutgers! CB Edgar Fife is now heading to Penn State. I really wish we could have landed this guy. Oh well. S Sean Walls Is also doing his share of visiting. I think our academics will win him over. ILB Rufus Torres Has made up his mind to play on the banks of the old Raritan River... sweet! In other recruiting... We have lots of visitors now and things are starting to look up! I'm amazed our North Plainfield recruit hasn't signed on yet...what the hell is he waiting for? Code:

Week 10 Review
#15 Miami Hurricanes (6-1) at Rutgers Scarlet Knights (3-4) last meeting: last year at Rutgers, Miami won in a shootout 47-35 The Coaches Poll ranked Rutgers #82 and Miami #15 Miami was favored by 15 on the road weather: 50 degrees and rain no TV coverage pre-existing injuries DT Alvin Desantis torn thumb ligament questionable (4 weeks) QB Tony Richard broken hand probable (4 weeks) WR Duane Wheeler high ankle sprain out (24 weeks) WR Walt Irwin influenza probable (1 week) We came out blazing and our offense made it down the field quickly to field goal range. We took a 3-0 lead, but QB Tony Richard was injured (again). Miami scored on their 3rd play, with a 74 yard pass to take a 7-3 lead. Soon after that our starting RB Carlton Duncan also went out with injury. With our top two players gone, we had no chance of staying in the game. Byron Pfaff actually played alright late in the game, but the outcome had already been decided by the gods of injury. Final Score: Miami 31, Rutgers 17 Player of the Week nominees: DE Edgar Haynesworth - 5 tackles, 3 sacks WR Cole Upshaw - 6 catches for 126 yards Injury Report DT Alvin Desantis torn thumb ligament probable (3 weeks) QB Tony Richard back surgery out (16 weeks) WR Duane Wheeler high ankle sprain out (24 weeks) RB Carlton Duncan dislocated shoulder out (6 weeks) Recruiting ---updates--- T Quinn Harrison Is visiting us and it looks like we should land him. S Vince Alston is visiting us and should definitely commit. Blue-Chip Recruits Number 9 - C Deron Dotson 6'6" 281 lb monster from Brooklyn, NY. Is an excellent pass protector, and considered the 57th best center in the nation. ---updates--- S Sean Walls Visiting us and some others...should definitely be ours. OLB Sherman Hungate Visiting and should commit very soon. In other recruiting... We have lots of visitors now and things are starting to look up! I'm amazed our North Plainfield recruit hasn't signed on yet...what the hell is he waiting for? Code:

Week 11 Review
Rutgers Scarlet Knights (3-5) at Virginia Tech (5-3) last meeting: last year at Va Tech we made it close but lost, 24-14 The Coaches Poll ranked Rutgers #89 and Va Tech #29 Va Tech was favored by 18 at home weather: 53 degrees and rain no TV coverage pre-existing injuries DT Alvin Desantis torn thumb ligament probable (3 weeks) QB Tony Richard back surgery out (16 weeks) WR Duane Wheeler high ankle sprain out (24 weeks) RB Carlton Duncan dislocated shoulder out (6 weeks) Anytime you go into a game with your QB and RB injured and replaced by incompetent backups you can't be too confident. Our defense played a "bend but don't break" philosohpy early. Va Tech crossed the 50 yard line on their first 4 posessions, but came away empty handed each time. Unfortunately our offense was completely out of sync and we weren't faring much better. On their 5th posession to cross our 50, Virginia Tech finally scored on a 21 yard touchdown pass, the game would be 7-0 at the half. On their first posession of the second half, VT ran and option play for an 82 yard touchdown and things started to look bleak due to our struggling offense. At the beginning of the 4th, Virginia Tech drove, scored, and at 21-0 the game was over. It would only get uglier. Final Score: Virginia Tech 35, Rutgers 0 Player of the Week nominees: ILB James Zandofsky - 15 tackles, 3 assists, 2 sacks Injury Report DT Alvin Desantis torn thumb ligament probable (2 weeks) QB Tony Richard back surgery out (16 weeks) WR Duane Wheeler high ankle sprain out (22 weeks) RB Carlton Duncan dislocated shoulder out (5 weeks) Recruiting Dream Recruits DE Spencer Harrison Our 6th and final dream recruit. If things go as well as I hope, we could have an enormous influx of D-line talent next season. Spencer is 6'0" 186 lbs and a quality pass rusher and run stopper out of Collingswood, NJ. Our distance and academics should make him a lock. ---updates--- T Quinn Harrison Is visiting, and a decision could come soon. Penn State and Army have me worried. S Vince Alston Will hopefully decide on us this week. Blue-Chip Recruits ---updates--- OLB Sherman Hungate It's us or UTEP, so i'm sure we've roped him in. C Deron Dotson Should be just about ready to commit.. In other recruiting... Since we would be at 14 scholarships if everyone were to commit, we elected not to offer any more scholarships. Code:

you hit the nail on the head. Last year with everyone healthy we had an amazing run, our backup QB single handedly cost us two games, so we would have been 7-4 and probably in a bowl game. This year our backups are even worse at both positions and we know need them more than ever. It is absolutely killing us. I'm at least excited by what looks like possibly my best recruiting class ever. thanks for reading by the way...I can't wait to see how these guys transfer to FOF4! |

Week 12 Review - The Revolutionary War
Princeton Tigers (2-7) at Rutgers Scarlet Knights (3-6) last meeting: Last year at Princeton we pulled it out with our backup QB, 20-10 series: we are 5-0 all time vs. Princeton The Coaches Poll ranked Rutgers #99 and Princeton #115 We were favored by 11 at home weather: 42 degrees and rain no TV coverage pre-existing injuries DT Alvin Desantis torn thumb ligament probable (2 weeks) QB Tony Richard back surgery out (16 weeks) WR Duane Wheeler high ankle sprain out (22 weeks) RB Carlton Duncan dislocated shoulder out (5 weeks) This one is for pride. The Revolutionary War, our annual battle for the Old Revolutionary War Cannon was heating up heading into it's 6th year. Princeton has shown improvment over the last 2 years, and we wer elooking weaker than ever with QB Tony Richard and RB Carlton Duncan both missing the remainder of the season. What makes rivalry games so amazing are the storylines that emerge. Big time players get hurt and nobodies become heroes for a day in the biggest games of their college careers. What stories would write themselves today? ----------- We looked terrific on our opening drive, slicing downfield and sophomore RB Norman George scored his first ever touchdown! Our defense wasn't as prepared as our offense, and Princton was lighting us up. They scored on their next two posessions to take a 10-7 lead. Two posessions later we bounced back and WR Cole Upshaw caught a Byron Pfaff pass to take a 14-10 lead. Again our lead was short lived as Princton made it 17-14, they would add a field goal just before halftime to make it 20-14. Knowing this was a must win game to salvage our pride in a disappointing season, I did my best Knute Rockne impression to fire up the troops at halftime. The third quarter was all defense, a complete reversal of the first half. We did manage to inch closer with a field goal to cut the lead to 3 points, 20-17. With only 5 minutes remaining, we recieved the ball after a punt at our own 21 yard line. It was time to put up or shut up. Our team made up it's mind quickly, and Byron Pfaff found senior WR Walt Irwin on a slant pattern. Walt Broke a tackle and took it 79 yards to the house for the longest TD of his career! We forced Princeton 3 and out and gave ourselves a chance to run out the clock, but 2 offenisve holding penalites killed us and we punting it back. Princeton had the ball at their own 28 with 2 minutes remaining. My heart was racing when Princeton move 48 yards on two plays, a touchdown would surely sink us. On the next play, Junior LB Leroy Tucker stepped in front of a crossing pass and returned it 91 yards for a touchdown to seal the game! What an ending to a classic rivalry! Final Score: Rutgers 31, Princeton 20 Player of the Week nominees: QB Byron Pfaff - 14-for-23 for 255 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT ILB James Zandofsky - 13 tackles, 7 assists, 1 sack, 1 pass defensed WR Walt Irwin - 4 catches for 111 yards, 1 touchdown Walt was my choice for Revolutionary War MVP. This senior came up with the biggest recieving day of his college career when our depleted receiving corps needed it most. Injury Report DT Alvin Desantis torn thumb ligament probable (1 weeks) QB Tony Richard back surgery out (16 weeks) WR Duane Wheeler high ankle sprain out (21 weeks) RB Carlton Duncan dislocated shoulder out (4 weeks) RB R.J. Perkins torn thumb ligament doubtful (8 weeks) DT Artie Farnsworth strained triceps questionable (4 weeks) WR Jimmy Brooks artho knee surgery out (7 weeks) Christ, now we lose our #2 RB and our top reciever....we're literally limping down the home stretch here. Recruiting Dream Recruits ---updates--- T Quinn Harrison The last of the Dream Recruits decides to go to....Troy State!? I think there may be some foul play involved since I couldn't have forseen him going anywhere else except here, Penn State, or Army. Blue-Chip Recruits ---updates--- OLB Sherman Hungate Take that UTEP, Sherman is ours! In other recruiting... T Herb Prescott, our North Plainfield player finally realized we were the only school who was even going to call him, let alone offer him a scholarship! We now may look for 1 more scholarship player. Week 13 Review
Rutgers Scarlet Knights (4-6) at #4 Syracuse Orangemen (9-1) last meeting: Last year we gave the eventual nation champs a very tough game, but lost 23-14 in Syracuse. series: we are 0-5 vs. Syracuse The Coaches Poll ranked Rutgers #86 and Syracuse #4 Syracuse was favored by an eye-popping 29 at home weather: 52 degrees and fair no TV coverage pre-existing injuries DT Alvin Desantis torn thumb ligament probable (1 weeks) QB Tony Richard back surgery out (16 weeks) WR Duane Wheeler high ankle sprain out (21 weeks) RB Carlton Duncan dislocated shoulder out (4 weeks) RB R.J. Perkins torn thumb ligament doubtful (8 weeks) DT Artie Farnsworth strained triceps questionable (4 weeks) WR Jimmy Brooks artho knee surgery out (7 weeks) With our team decimated by injuries we knew it would not be pretty. However, I wasn't sure it would get his ugly. I don't even want to describe it. The only positive thing I have to say is Kicker Victor Fragomeni looked good, and was 2-of-2 with both his kicks coming from 50 yards. Final Score: Syracuse 63, Rutgers 6 Player of the Week nominees: none Injury Report pretty much the same people, I'll wrap up any injuries that may carry over at the end of the college season. Recruiting It's now a waiting game to attract some walk-ons. We have 5 guys interested in our 3 openings. Code:

2007 Stat Summary
Offensive Wrap-up Our offense fell off quite a bit this year, obviously due to injury. QB Tony Richard, RB Carlton Duncan, and our top 3 receivers all missed significant time. Our rushing yards were down a very sizable 350 yards, and our yards per carry down 6/10ths of a yard to an ugly 2.4. Our yards per pass attempt did go up however, as did our 3rd down conversion (both slightly). Our overall points per game only dropped one point to 21 even. Our turnovers were down by 6 as well, meaning we weren't as careless with the ball. Defensive Wrap-up Our defense seems to have had a major drop-off. The biggest issue was our turnovers forced plummeting, we only forced 15 turnovers to last years 29. Our run D and pass D were both worse, and it showed in us allowing 6 more points per game. It's interesting to note that although we lost DE Terry Jackson our team sack total rose from 35 to 42. Many more guys were getting to the QB this year, rather than just one. Code:

Sadly, not nearly as many awards are flowing our way this year. It's a bit of a disappointment since seeing more Rutgers names on here would help our recruiting in future seasons. It also doesn't bode too well for sending guys into the pro leagues. Code:

Farewell Seniors
The last hangers-on from my first recruiting class and those who played as freshman from my second recruiting class are now saying goodbye. Quarterback - Byron Pfaff 2.8 GPA in Journalism. Ahhh the much maligned Byron Pfaff. Definitely Godzilla Blitz's favorite player. Fared horrible when starting the 5 games he did over his career. 8 touchdowns to 19 interceptions. It'll probably be good for team morale that he's graduating. Halfback - Gene Dromeshauser 3.0 GPA in Trigonometry. A walk on with 17 carries for 62 yards as his career stats, was never much of a factor. Halfback - R.J. Perkins 2.5 GPA in marketing. A backup who actually faired decently when coming in to replace the injured Carlton Duncan in his senior year. He was fortunate to have had a scholarship. Fullback - R.J. Naylor 2.7 GPA in Geography. A walk-on who just filled the FB roster spot, he managed to get onto the field in 6 games total. Tight End - C.J. Rodriguez 3.1 GPA in Computer Science. A disappointing 4 year starter for us. We've yet to have the tight end make a real impact in our offense. Tight End - Corwin Lemons 2.8 GPA in French. Was C.J. Rodriguez's backup for 4 years, he never came close to pushing him for playing time. Wide Receiver - Walt Irwin 3.2 GPA in Differential Equations. Started 3 1/2 years for us. Walt was a good 3rd receiver, but was forced to play the #2 role a bit more than we would have liked. He'll never play professionally, but he'll always have the memories of his big day against Princeton in 2007. Walt was one of my favorite players. Center - Kent Willis Graduates with a 3.8 GPA in Economics. Never started a game for us, but became relied upon as an all-purpose offensive line backup. Although we thought that role suited him best, he grew angry with the coaching staff when he was not named a starter. Good luck with the economics degree! Guard - Andrew Imlay 3.7 GPA in Electrical Engineering. An excellent guard. Andrew was a devestating run blocker, and had significantly improved his pass protection skills. Having gotten better every year he's played, he'll have a fair chance to play professionally. Defensive Tackle - Dixon Elliot 3.5 GPA in Marketing. Objectively, Dixon was a complete disappointment. He only saw the field in 2 of his 4 season here, and never was an impact player. Defensive Tackle - Corwin Giron 3.6 GPA in Medicine. A 3 year starter for us, Corwin became a pretty solid run-stopper in his senior season. He'll never play professionally. Inside Linebacker - James Zandofsky Graduates with a 3.1 GPA in Trigonometry. Really came on as a senior after getting hurt in both his sophomore and junior seasons. I wish he could have stayed longer as he was the anchor of our defense last year with 110 tackles and 11.5 sacks. Should make the transistion to the pros. Inside Linebacker - Benjamin Hopper 3.2 GPA in Geology. Content to be a backup, Ben did just that. He provided us depth over his 4 years here, and we wish him well in his geological pursuits. Outside Linebacker - Deron Satchwell Graduated with a 3.7 GPA in Accounting. Never an impact player for us, Deron came to provide depth in his junior and senior seasons. He definitely won't be playing professionally. Safety - Kent Sawyer Graduates with a 2.5 GPA in Algebra. Was once the Big East's top defensive freshman and also a one-time All-Big East 2nd team member. Kent was a solid but unspectacular player who stabilized our backfield for 4 years. I'd rate his odds of landing a pro job as fair. Safety - Mickey Ordonez Graduates with a 3.7 GPA in Random Number Theory. A two time all-academic team member, Mickey was a player who never lived up to his potential. He was able to provide depth, but grew frustrated with his backup role. With his attention to his studies he should do quite well in the "real world." Safety - Eddie Bidwell 2.3 GPA in Geology. Solid but unspectacular 4 year starter for us. We're losing both our starting safeties, so we'll probably be worse at that position next year. He's a longshot to play professionally. |

Our Report Card
What would Professor Laertes have to say about our season? Code:
When you get back that D paper, it's always disappointing. But ocassionally you know you didn't deserve anything better. On the field we were definite underachievers, where as last year we had a few shocking wins. The recruiting I think is dead on, as 12 players were in the nation's top 1000. TV revenue is holding steady, and the fans are starting to come around. Even though we appear to be stuck in a rut of 4-7 or 5-6 seasons, I feel we're getting better each season. |
