Interesting Discussion about FutureTech and the Soul
My friends and I were talking about the recent story about how by 2050, we'll be possible to upload our brains to a machine etcetera etcetera..
The discussion swung to religious matters and practical matters. Does this kind of thing destroy the human soul? For example. Let's take the teleporter for instance. Shoop, you disappear in one place and reappear at another place. Is that the same you (mentally/consciously) who went into the transporter? Or is it just another you with your same memories etcetera. In other words, killing the "you" that was there before the transport. Same with a machine. You upload your brainspace to the machine. Somewhere down the line, they make technologies that allow downloading of memories to clone bodies. Is that you? Or when your first body dies, is that it for your soul? Does it matter if it's straight main body to clone body? Just thought I would bring it up, see what everyone thought. (and I do mean everyone, this does touch on matters some would call religious, etcetera)
