Help. I'm an internet idiot...

I can't figure this out. Many pages open for me, but the links won't work. Some do, some don't. Like I can go to tvguide.com and everything is fine until I try to change the day or time. It does nothing. Pages that open using Adobe will not open. I'm trying to get tax forms and can't get it to open the damn form.

This is frustrating the hell out of me. I've been looking online, but everything I find that seems to address the problem just doesn't work.

Anybody have an idea???

Hell, I can't even get the style of this board to change...

I'm using Internet Explorer 6.0
I have Norton Internet Security
Windows XP

I would check for spyware. I use Norton as well, but it doesn't catch everything. The three I use to check are all free:

Spybot Search & Destroy www.spybot.info
Ad-Aware www.lavasoft.de
Microsoft's Anti-Spyware Beta - www.microsoft.com/downloads

The combination of these three has fixed just about anything I've come across.

Let us know if you need help with any of these three, or if they don't fix your problem.

Dola,

The Microsoft tool will help you in case spyware messed with IE's settings. It will allow you to set things back to default.

Might also try a 'restore point.' Did it yesterday to fix a printer problem I was having and worked like a charm.

That reminds me about Restore Points. Some of the SOB virus/spyware writers figured out how to abuse the System Restore process. Basically they put the virus and/or spyware into all of your restore points, so when you delete the offending software, it just gets put back in again. So if you are still having problems, you might want to disable System Restore to clear everything out, and turn it back on once everything is working again.

To disable it, right click on My Computer, and select Properties. One of the tabs will be System Restore, and you put a checkmark in the Disable box.

I installed the microsoft one. It found three spyware files. Got rid of 'em.

Still can't open the damn page though...

I'll try the other two later.

Thanks.

I'm trying firefox and there is no difference. Still can't see anything in pdf formats or change the background here to sideline green. I have the altest adobe viewer so that shouldn't be it. Something must be blocking these things. Could it be something in the internet security? I tried disabling it, but no difference.
