TO, Grant Hill, & My Ankle

Turns out Grant Hill thinks Terrell Owens should be "warned" against having Dr. Mark Myerson (http://www.drmyerson.com) work on his ankle since Dr. Myerson apparently did 2 of Hill's surgeries and he wasn't happy with the outcome (reading the article I think Dr. Myserson tried to do very conservative approaches and stave off massively invasive surgery, but that's just my opinion).

This is all fairly amusing to me because of the similarity between my inital injry and Grant Hill's initial injury (well, he had heel spurs and ligament problems). That said, going into my 3rd ankle surgery (with Dr. Paul Cooper) I was told I'd probably never resume sports again and by the time of my 4th surgery (performed by none other than Dr. Mark Myerson), they informed me I'd never run again. Yes, that's right, TO, GH, and I all have the same ankle surgeon...six degrees of separation or whatever.

For all you Eagles fans, TO is SURE AS HELL not coming back. I reiterate what I've said before...if he had to go to Baltimore to get Myerson to do the operation, it's WAY messed up and he's DEFINITELY out.

Hill concerned about NFL star

ORLANDO -- When Grant Hill heard that Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Terrell Owens would be having ankle surgery in Baltimore, the Orlando Magic star forward couldn't help but cringe. Owens tore ligaments in his ankle and fractured a bone in his leg Sunday when he was pulled down from behind by Dallas Cowboys safety Roy Williams. He had surgery Wednesday to have two screws and a metal plate inserted in his ankle. The procedure was performed by Dr. Mark Myerson, the same doctor who operated on Hill's ankle in 2000 and 2001. Knowing that Owens is putting his future in the hands of Myerson, a foot and ankle specialist, worried Hill.

"(Myerson) is putting it out there that he was the one who got Grant Hill back, and we all know that wasn't the case," Hill said with a smirk. "I wasted my time with him."

Hill ultimately left Myerson's care and had a more involved procedure performed in 2003 by Dr. James Nunley at the Duke Medical Center in North Carolina. Nunley broke Hill's heal and realigned it with his lower leg. Limited to just 47 games in his first four seasons with the Magic, Hill has played in 23 of 24 games and is second on the team in scoring (19.7 ppg.).

The Eagles are hoping that Owens can return in six weeks and play in the Super Bowl should they get that far. Hill, who has had the screws and plates inserted in his ankle three different times, scoffed at Owens being able to return that soon.

Nutcracker Mobley

The first 5,000 fans who entered Wednesday's game against the San Antonio Spurs received a Cuttino Mobley Nutcracker figurine. Mobely, who has done some modeling on the side and often takes grief from his teammates for his fashion sense, was not pleased with how his likeness turned out.

"I don't like it at all," he said in all seriousness. "I have a pretty nose. I'll go for it, I guess, but I just don't know about that nose. My nose looks nothing like that."

Mobley is looking forward to some time off for Christmas, but he said he won't stray too far from the NBA. He said will be intently watching the two Christmas Day games -- Detroit at Indiana and Miami at Los Angeles -- not because of drama surrounding the rivalries, but because he simply watches basketball every chance he gets. He also said he doesn't expect any shenanigans between Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant.

"If it was Charlotte and New Jersey playing I'd be watching that because I just watch basketball every chance that I get," Mobley said. "Shaq is a good dude, man. I doubt he'll try and hurt Kobe."

Rookie lessons

Asked what he learned from playing against all-star power forward Tim Duncan last week when the Magic lost to San Antonio, Howard replied: "The MVPs get all of the calls."

Howard was limited to just 27 minutes of action before fouling out. He also missed six of his seven shots, the first three of which were particularly ugly shots. He lamented not being more aggressive against Duncan.

"I remember the first time I played Wilt Chamberlain and Nate Thurmond and you're just so excited that you go faster than you should," Magic assistant coach Clifford Ray said. "Dwight was the same way against Duncan. But I think he'll be calmer in those situations in the future."

I meant over for the season.
Despite all the optimism that he'll be back maybe for the Super Bowl, I'm just a sayin' that it isn't happenin'.

He'll be back for the Super Bowl, sitting on his couch just like the rest of the Eagles. If he was going to play again this season he'd have to be ready for their annual loss in the conference final.
