What should I do?
I bought a bike on ebay. I probably overpaid, but I wanted it.
Anyway, the shipping rate was not listed in the auction, but having checked other similar bicycles I figured the shipping would hit me for about $35 - $55. Yesterday I was given a shipping rate of $41, and I paid the seller immediately. Today I get an email that the bike has shipped, but the shipping ended up being $78. He sent me a scanned copy of the receipt and wants me to send him an additional $37! Am I being a cheap bastard for thinking that this isn't right? WTF should I do, pay him, or pitch a bitch? If he would have quoted $78 in the 1st place I would have questioned why it was so much in comparison to what else I have seen...

i vote for pitch a fit. the bike is already in the mail, so it's not like he can dissapear with it. if the shipping changed that much he should have notified you before shipping it or have been prepared to eat the cost. a good seller would have figured out ahead of time exactly how much the shipping was and stuck by that. Pitch a fit...unless the $37 isn't that big of a deal to you...

I see $41 being the agreed upon price, but if he has proof, I would have a hard time not paying.

Ask him why it ended up being so much, and that you'd thought it would be more like $40 based on other auctions you've seen.
If he gives you a polite, reasonable answer, then pay him.

I mean if he has a UPS receipt detailing the bike being shipped to your house, what can you do? Its not fair for him to pay for the rest of your shipping. Its not like he's making any money off of it.

Actually, according to ebays rules and regs, seller has the right to determine the shipping methods, and an agreed upon price.
Once payment has been agreed upon, and you honored it. You are not entitled to recompensate him for his poor judgement in shipping. I have had to eat shipping costs several times on stuff I shipped from purchases on ebay, due to the fact I just rounded shipping out to what I saw were standard prices.
