Don't have the other two, but I find Age Of Empires II to be quite fun.
Can anyone give me some feedback on Age of Mythology? |

I like my games with a detailed campaign mode, which is why I voted for Rome: Total War.

Age of Mythology was fun. I've only played Rise of Nations for a few hours, but I think it may be my favorite one ever. However, before RoN, I would have said StarCraft.

Out of those I only have Rome, and it is pretty fun. Of all time? I agree with Eaglesfan27. Starcraft is the best RTS of all time. Tons a varied units, evenly balanced, good online play.

RoN is great...especially if you like Civ. It's like a RTS version of Civ.

I don't really consider R:TW to be an RTS.

I tend to agree. You don't move your troops around the world in real time. Only the battles are real time everything else is turn based.

If we're including the Total War series, I'd have to vote for Medieval over Rome. Rome was something of a letdown compared to Medieval in my opinion

Agreed on this. I own and play both, but R:TW is part turn-based strategy and part real-time tactical. It's not really an RTS in the true sense. I do consider RoN to be the cream of the crop of RTS, especially with the Thrones and Patriots expansion (some very interesting campaigns with different gameplay). I'm not putting down R:TW, I've played the heck out of it and love both games, I'd just say that if you want an RTS, you want RoN.

STARCRAFT THE ALL TIME BEST RTS!!!

I loved playing AOE2 with my daughter. We played it for hours upon hours from 2000-02 (along with the addon Age of Conqueors). We were very excited for the release of Age of Mythology. However, though it had stunning graphics the gameplay was not as enjoyable as AOE2. I am looking for a new RTS to enjoy with my Daughter who is now almost 16. I will probably give RON a try but I am really looking forward to AOE3!!

I really tend to consider myself a connoisseur of RTS games. I have literally played almost every RTS game that has come out since the original Command and Conquer. (By the way C&C Generals is a ton of fun)
My favorite one recently is Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War. It is outstanding. There are 4 different races all very evenly balanced, the graphics are great, and each race is very unique. This game of course is based upon the tabletop war game made by Games Workshop. The game even has an army painter. You can customize your army with different banners and badges that you can make in Adobe Photoshop. Rome: Total War is my other favorite although I agree I don't consider it a RTS game. M:TW was also an outstanding game. Still, two of the best of all time have to be Total Annihilation and Starcraft. However, Starcraft can be very annoying when playing in single player mode. The reason for this is that the computer always seems to rush your base. The key is to start with base defense and build your army up from there. TA on the other hand was huge and still is to this day. You can find tons of mods and new units on the internet for this game that came out back in 1997. RON is fun. However, it seems to bore me after playing 2-3 days in a row. AOE 2 was also great fun as was Age of Mythology. |

G-Man,
Also consider Heros of Might and Magic 3 or 4. I prefer HOMM 3 but 4 maybe easier to find. This game is a blast. Kind of like the Total War series in that the is an overview map that you move your heros on and then the battles are also turn based but the units move and animate. As the title might imply, you contorl heros and your heros command armies of fantasy creatures such as dragons, orcs, elves, demons, etc. I really enjoy these games to this day. |

Has anyone here ever played Cossacks:Art of War? I seem to hear nothing of this game, but I think it blows Age of Empires 2 away with its ability to have 2,000 plus units under your control at one time. It takes serious work to win when playing against multiple computer opponents. Again, that game is Cossacks:Art of War. I can't explain all the goodness it possesses, but someone should give it a look if none of you have yet.

Get the gold (or whatever it's called) version of HOMM 3 and download the Wake of Gods mod. It is far better than 4 and should keep you entertained for quite sometime. |

Julio Riddols,
I have played both Cossacks Art of War and American Conquest: Fight Back. I have enjoyed both games. Cossacks 2 should be coming out this year with much improved graphics |

Cossacks is a great game. But I can't believe no one has even mentioned Europa Universalis II. Phenomenal, one of the best games I've ever played, constantly being improved. Can be had for cheap too, if you can find it.

This thread just reminds me of how blurred the RTS line has become.
