S10 vs. Ranger

I have the opportunity to pick up either a 2003 Ford Ranger or a 2003 Chevy S-10 very cheap. I have never owned a truck but am looking to get one. Any thoughts on either of them?

I owned a 95 S-10...loved it. Had no problems with it all. Can't compare it to a Ranger though, I've never even been in one. At the time, they were rated beter by Car & Driver, and I looked at other trucks, but not the Ranger series at all. That's 8 years ago though, I'm sure things have changed.

If consumer reports helps the recommend Ranger as being reliable and say that S10 is a risk.

FYI, I drive a Ranger....

I just checked the CS site.

I drove a 96 Ranger for a year or two and had to sell it to move out of the country. I would love to have it back. It was 2WD with the 4.0L engine and all the options--perfect. Chevy's are clunkers.
