SWMBO Comes Through In The CLUTCH!!!

I had a function with middle school kids last night, so we celebrated Valentine's Day this afternoon/evening. My Valentine's Day present???

Box set of the first three seasons of Sanford and Son on DVD.

I really, really, really love that woman.

Well, except I hate that show. Still though its a cool gift. Probably even cooler if you like the show.

Y'know, until looking over an episode guide (trying to see if my favorite ep is in the box set, which it isn't), I didn't realize that more than dozen episodes aired between Rowanda Page debuted. And I'm a little bummed for you that season three includes a half dozen episodes w/out Fred.

I really don't remember. I'm not *that* old. (Season one was Fall '72. I was three years old at the time.) I probably wasn't allowed to watch it before it was cancelled anyway--but I don't remember. I just remember watching it virtually every single evening, right before the Braves on TBS, in syndication. I don't know which shows were from which seasons.

One of my favorite episodes would have to be later on though--the time that Fred got hooked up with a charlatan church that made him a "Reverend", but he owed 'em a bunch of money in return. He then formed his own "church" to scare the head guy aware. I remember his first sermon included "brother against brother, black against white, Minnesota against Oakland". Wasn't that Super Bowl in '77?

Well, that depends on which episodes. Some of the ones where Grady was "housesitting" while Fred was out of town were classic. Demond Wilson (Lamont) could play straight man for anyone--and sometimes I think he had better chemistry with Whitman Mayo (Grady) than Redd Foxx (Fred).

Yup. Just checked. The one where Lamont and Rollo dupe Grady, send him out, and have some chicks over to the house, and then Aunt Esther and her friends show up for their planned Bible Study is in Season 3!

Wait...your wife actually gets you something for Valentine's Day?

Interesting concept. I may have to run that one by the Wife.

Rollo... the name alone is enough to crack me up every time.

There was a stretch where anytime my brothers or I would do something to annoy each other we'd call the offender Rollo with a mock Fred G. Sanford disgust.

Some were indeed good, but other times it lacked the same ... punch ... of the traditional lineup IMO. BTW, my personal favorite ep has to be "My Fair Esther" from season five. It holds the record for most Esther-insults in a single episode, with 20.

Minus the commercial time, that's close to one-per-minute, and that's a very good thing

Ditto. I spend a few hundred dollars on presents for her. I get some candy and some "love."

Lucky you, SkyDog!

My father used to roar with laughter at Sanford and Son. Myself, ehh. Occasionally it would be funny, sometimes Sanford just was a grouchy old man and got on my nerves.

I got all three seasons of the Simpsons on DVD for Christmas from my girl, so I know that "clutch" feeling" myself. Very nice indeed.

Lamont: You're a dirty old man.

Fred: And I'm gonna be one 'til I'm a dead old man!

...Elizabeth! I'm coming for you, Elizabeth!

At least, I think that was the name. It's been awhile since I saw that when I was a kid.

Can't think of Red Foxx without remembering how he died, clutching his heart on the set of his new TV show, eyes rolling into the back of his head, cast of his show standing around and laughing out loud at his 'performance.' Amazing but true.
