Dragons Lair!
I was at an retro arcade yesterday and they had this. I was with my kids so didn't get a ton of time to play, but man the memories it brought back. What an amazing game it was in its time. did anyone else pump a zillion quarters in to this game back in the day while trying to memorize the moves?
It appears they have a steam version, I may check it out. |

I haven't thought about this in years.
Maybe the hardest video game I've every played. |

I think I tried it like twice. It was stupid. Never really considered it truly a video game.

Yeah, I was definitely mesmerized as a kid, but the fascination couldn't beat out the fact that it was super hard, super expensive, and not much fun.
I also remember flashes of a slightly earlier fully-animated style game about anime spys, and then maybe another one that was a western?

My first introduction to it was at a county fair in an arcade tent! Was the most serial thing I ever witnessed. It even had its own scent!
Then again I saw it at SHowbiz pizza place. And at various hotel arcades. Was always my favorite. I think I've played every single computer game version they've come out with I finally did win the game, the computer version. Was a pretty genuine version too. The latest version I have is the Wii version that has DL1, DL2: Timewarp, and Space Ace. I don't think I have the steam version although it might just be the same as the other versions I've played. Check out the comments to see how good it is...and by good I mean how forgiving your timing has to be. |

Doesn't look like they were earlier, but rather followers of Dragon's Lair, but here's the games I remember: Cliff Hanger (video game - Wikipedia) and Badlands (1984 video game - Wikipedia)

I also saw it at a vintage arcade place. Played it like twice before it brought back memories about how frustrating it was the first time when I stopped trying.

This game always mesmerized me when I would see it in the Arcade, but I had so few quarters that after trying it once or twice and blowing my whole stash in 30 seconds I never played again.

Same here, loved how it looked, but it was too rich for my blood.

I played it a ton over at the arcade many years ago. A friend and I beat it which at that time seemed like quite an accomplishment.

I'm actually surprised you actually found one nowadays. Whenever I ask arcade owners if they ever plan on getting one, they just whine about not being able to get one because the discs are all scratched or whatever.

I actually own a first run Dragon's Lair cabinet. Still plays great. My kids love it.
