I can see two potential upsets in this group, the other high seeds look like comfortable wins. A few new entries to the record board after last round as well.

I know America is going down, but I am voting for them anyway. Can name more of their songs I like than the Eagles.

Huey Lewis for the dark horse!

I figured the lower seeds Buddy Holly and Soundgarden would win, but kind of surprised at the Huey Lewis love. Is it his band you like, or Deep Purple you don't like?

I think because Jethro Tull is pretty much a niche sound. I would take them over Buddy any day, but Buddy is iconic in R&R history.

Agreed. I don't know the personal level stuff or if they were assholes or not, but I have found that most stars have been assholes at some time and some of them all the time. You can pretty much find a reason to exclude anyone from anything, depending on your perspective.

So I'm going as much as possible on the sound, and the Eagles sounded great and have a ton of memorable hits.

Hotel California alone deserves to get them a few rounds in. That is a masterful song.

The Eagles are great, Buddy Holly's B sides are better than Jethro Tull's whole catalog, and Huey Lewis is still great because the 80s was just the right amount of cheesy.

Do you even know who Buddy Holly is and the huge influence he had on rock&roll that came after him??

I can definitely understand folks not liking Jethro Tull. Their late 70s/80s stuff I can't listen to, and although I love Thick as a Brick and Songs for the Wood, their sound is definitely niche and the Celtic/flute sound puts off a lot of folks. I've come to learn over the years which of my weird ass music I can put on around non-wierd ass music loving friends, and Jethro Tull is definitely not one of them.

I like Jethro Tull quite a bit and I'm still surprised they're even that close. Buddy Holly was a legend.

I voted JT because there is zero chance I would ever play Buddy Holly on my Spotify, but I can appreciate how influential he was.

I'm rather surprised Pearl Jam is wiping the floor with the White Stripes - I expected that one to be much closer. Hell, I love PJ and it was a tough vote for me.

Ran into a buzzsaw, unfortunately. If they switched positions with Huey Lewis, I'm sure the White Stripes would be destroying Deep Purple.

I don't get the love for Soundgarden over a great band like Iron Maiden. That shitty grunge scene sucked then and it sucks now.

The music that came out of the Seattle scene in the early '90's was head and shoulders above the crap that was dominating hard rock radio at the time. I know some want to blame the Seattle bands for the crap imitators that followed, but blame the imitators, not the originals that were great bands.

Trying to pin Soundgarden in some lazy label like "grunge" betrays a serious lack of knowledge of their catalog. Just like Led Zeppelin was so much more diverse than blues-based hard rock, Soundgarden was so much more than a punk take on Black Sabbath.

Iron Maiden is great at what they do, but they don't have the breadth of style that Soundgarden did. It took a while for them to really hit their stride - Louder Than Love had a few great songs but was largely uneven, but from Badmoterfinger on they put out great album after great album with virtually no filler.

Nirvana, Soundgarden, and the rest sucked out loud. They were different than the other stuff on the radio, but they didn't suck any less.
