Rumored that Chelsea Handler might fill in, but there's talks of her going to Netflix.

Can't blame him when it was in his contract that he would take over for Letterman after he retired.

Nope. He was leaving anyway and almost left two years ago.

As the article stated, he never really wanted it. I believe him.

Yeah, you can do things at 12:30 that you can't do at 11:30. And those kind of bits seem to be Craig's thing.

I think that was part of Conan's problem, too

James Corden is an absolute dick and is about as funny as a burning orphanage. His "personality" revolves around getting over-excited and laughing really loudly and annoyingly.

He'll be as successful as Piers Morgan, the last asshole who outstayed his welcome on UK tv and somehow got a job here.

May I just say many thanks on behalf of a grateful British nation - first you took Piers Morgan from us which won over many hearts, but now you're just going above and beyond ....

PS - Best thing I can say about Corden is that at least he isn't as vocal about Soccer as Piers Morgan (who drives me batty talking rubbish about it) ... he's a West Ham supporter, but at least he isn't constantly interviewed about the team and included on commentary teams during US broadcasts ..... yet at least

I've only seen Corden in Begin Again and I really liked him in that.

He's alright as an actor, he was a lot better on Doctor Who than I expected, and he's been a successful writer. It's his personality that sucks.

He probably wont be as bad as Seth Meyer though.

I'm predisposed to disliking him, since was a big fan of the zaniness of Ferguson. Prominently using Jay Leno (whom I strongly dislike) in the opening didn't help that.

And yet, overall he was much better than I expected. The viral bits were amusing. Putting both guests together on the couch was interesting. While he's not a great interviewer (yet?), it wasn't uncomfortable anyway. (Of course, a potted plant could interview Tom Hanks and I'd watch it.)

He brings a different skillset to the show, as more of an actor type than a pure comedian. Through one episode (didn't catch last night), I'm not turned off...although I do miss Secretariat.

I loved Ferguson--the robot and horse included.

The opening was pretty good, I thought, and I like the two guests on the couch (and no desk) approach as well. When I see the British talk shows, they seem to be a little more relaxed compared to ours, and it seems like James is bringing a little bit of that style to the show.

I've seen the simultaneous guests approach used by Graham Norton a few times, like the approach & thought it was a good call to try it on this (I read some recaps earlier)

Not sure how it will work overall but I do like that idea.

James did the late show from some stranger's house night. It was awkwardly awesome to watch.

Norm's delivery of the Letterman joke at the end was well worth it. Not a whole lot gets to Norm, so to see him this emotional was really affecting.

I've really enjoyed watching Letterman the last week or so. It's been almost 20 years since I watched him regularly, but I still remembered a lot of the classic bits they've been trotting out.

Strolled over to the side of the Ed Sullivan Theater, to see if anything fun would happen on the street tonight.

Got there around 5:30 and waited with a few hundred of my closest friends. Around 6:15ish, famous people started coming out and going to their waiting cars. Tina Fey, Peyton Manning, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Steve Martin, Chris Rock, the Foo Fighters, etc. The only star who came over and shook hands/did selfies was...Jim Carrey. A few camera folks did some pans of the fans (maybe I'll see myself tonight.)

Cops disappeared and barriers abandoned, someone on a loudspeaker yelled "Elvis has left the building", and some people left. Then more started gathering in a smaller area. Then down the block, at the office entrance to the building, noticed some cops and some new barriers and scampered over. Around 7:30.

And maybe 200 people waited and waited. Security dudes and cops went in and out. Eventually, they cleared the street so a car could pull up. After more waiting, a few young women came out of the building, got in, and the car left. The head security guy yelled 2 mins later to disassemble the barriers and that Letterman had left somewhere else from the building, but that "he WAS going to go out this exit, but then he didn't". I left. It was 8:30.

Letterman is known for his reclusiveness and so forth, and I can't expect him to deal with a crush of fans. Still, a bit disappointing.

Who's staying up to watch Letterman one last time? Me!

I remember my dad would tape his Late Night shows, on VHS no less! So many great bits. Between that and Monty Python, he really shaped my cynical sense of humor. I imagine he did that for a lot of people. Even though I really haven't watched in years because I'm old and go to bed early now, it's still sad that he won't be there anymore.

I'm watching it.

TBH, not as good as a send off as I would have liked for Dave. Could have been a 2 hour special but this is prob how he wants it.

Update: last 15 minutes montage was great.

I enjoyed that finale. It was just want Dave wanted to do. Some big time guests, but no massive production (though it did go over by a half hour...)
