Ted Nugent is awesome. Would hate to see him go down in the first round.

Not really a tough vote in the bunch here.

Given that it was drawn from the frequently tasteless internet, I'd be almost shocked if one of the first true supergroups as well as one of the strongest ever actually made the list.

You mean aside from Cream, Blind Faith, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Crosby, Stills, Nash, & YOung, Asia, etc...? |

I wouldn't give you more than about $1.25 for the entire catalog of the CSN folks, wouldn't give you a nickel for Young. Bands that largely bore me shitless aren't ones that I'm inclined to give much slack to. Won't argue the collective talent level of original lineup of Asia in the least, but would definitely argue the entertainment value of the respective bands however. I'd argue the supergroup designation at all for Cream at it's founding, with Clapton at that point being at a different level than his bandmates, certainly in terms of rock status.

Anyone else vote for Joe Cocker just because they don't consider Michael Jackson a "rock" act?

I think that's reflected in his ranking, since he only had a few crossover songs. Stuff like Beat it, Morphine, Dirty Diana, etc, have a rock edge to them. And of course Slash played guitar on Black or White. |

I forgot to vote for that one. However his Off the Wall album was wonderful. Don't Stop Til YOu Get Enough and Wanna Be Startin' Something are funkadelic masterpieces. From there, well...cartoon in both music and appearance. Everything became overwrought.
That's R&B for ya. I expect to see a ton more R&B and even hiphop as we continue. Cocker is a classic. Pity he made his career off of other people's songs. Hell of a voice. |

The Steppenwolf/Offspring fight is very interesting. They're the same type of band from different decades. Party bands.
Loud obnoxious party bands. I only know one song from the wolf. Does knowing 3-4 Offspring songs that were hits matter? I did hear that band was kinda "icky" in that they were huge sellouts. Loved Keep em Separated... They had that funny way of using their voices as guitars and stupidly it worked. |

Surely you know 2. Born to Be Wild and Magic Carpet Ride are both kind of hard to not know, Id think. I actually think you may be selling Steppenwolf short. They had some poignant politico stuff as well. Then again i guess everyone in 72-74 did... |

First group with no upsets, though The Offspring made a late run at one. I'll have the next group up in the morning.

Simple Minds did actually well against a monster like Hendrix.
This tourney is gonna be fun because of that. All the 80s and 90s one (+) hit wonders are going to be against classic monsters. I wonder if any of them will break through. Gonna be fun to watch. |
