FOFC's Favourite Movie - Opening Round (Part 7)

The tournament continues and the full bracket can be found here. We are nearing the half way point of the opening round. Part 6 is still on-going with the poll for that bracket closing Sunday night.

Poll to follow...

Do people vote for Harry Potter over Psycho just to mess up the poll?

Some hard ones for me personally. I don't love Star Wars: TFA (just like it) but I haven't seen its opponent.

I have seen both Psycho and Harry Potter, and again, I don't think HP is any great shakes but Psycho (and horror in general) was just not really my gig. As great as it is, it's largely passé for me because it feels the same as other horror flicks to me. I realize Hitchcock did things for the first time here that have been copied for decades but that doesn't change that it feels like any old horror flick to me.

And then finally, Evil Dead over Godfather 2. I'll admit, this is a meaningless Republican in California type vote. I voted for Evil Dead because I didn't think it would change things. I actually love both pictures, but Godfather 2 was always more convoluted to me and less enjoyable than the Godfather, which was one of the best films ever. And Evil Dead is just classic cult horror. So I went against the grain there.

I like Godfather II better than the original. Godfather III doesn't exist.

Abstained from Trainspotting vs Bicycle Thieves. Didn't think much of Trainspotting (but it's been nearly 2 decades since I've seen it) and I haven't seen Bicycle Thieves.

The rest were very easy picks for me.

In the Name of the Father isn't getting nearly enough love.

Totally concur. I loved that movie, arguably one of my favourites of all time. While it generally goes without saying, Daniel Day-Lewis is outstanding. Additionally, I didn't enjoy Wall E at all. In my opinion, it's not nearly on the same level as many of the other animated movies of the past years.

I would put Wall-E in the upper echelon of Pixar.

TS1
Nemo
Up
Wall-E
Monsters Inc
TS3

Maybe not in that order, but I feel like that grouping sums up their best work across the board.

Oh, I know I'm in the minority. In addition to the ones you mentioned, I'd also put The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Inside Out, arguably Brave and Monsters University and possibly (probably?) Finding Dory.

To be fair, I think of Evil Dead as campy, tongue in cheek horror, so not quite the same. But yea in context that's an oddly contradictory post.

I wanted to love Brave, and just didn't. The Incredibles definitely deserves top tier for Pixar.
