FOFC's Favourite Movie - Opening Round (Part 6)

The tournament continues. The full bracket can be found here. There is still a bit of time to go in Part 5 here.

For those that don't yet know the drill, this is picking your favourite movie, whatever that term means to you. Seedings were based off the IMDB Top 250. I think most of the matchups have something compelling about them in this series.

Will Rocky Horror get any love on this forum, made even more difficult by going against The Godfather? I really have to think that Stand By Me will play well with the FOFC crowd and is poised for an upset of American Beauty, although I enjoy both movies greatly. We've also got two Pixar movies going up against older movies, which for the most part have not fared that well. And then there is the Casablanca vs. Bourne Ultimatum matchup, which again could be interesting due to the lack of love classic cinema has been receiving in this tournament.

If Casablanca loses to Bourne Ultimatum I might boycott the rest of this tournament!

Rocky Horror is one of those movies that I would have imagined had a pretty decent shot at a first round upset; not at all with that draw.

Stand By Me vs American Beauty is one of the most intriguing matchups of the entire first round to me. Either one of them loses to Aliens next round, I think, but still a touch choice.

I think either Stand by Me or American Beauty blows Aliens away. This was definitely the toughest group for me so far. Several really good movies that I just can't vote for.

It kills me to see American Beauty in this situation. One of my favorite movies of all time.

I haven't even seen Casablanca, but Bourne Ultimatum wasn't the best Bourne film at all.

Casablanca is a great movie. You should see it soon! It started my Ingrid Bergman phase back in the 90s.

Disappointed but not surprised to see Once Upon A Time In The West losing to Monsters Inc (itself a fun and touching film). OUATITW is one of the truly iconic spaghetti westerns and one of the best Westerns I have seen. When you can turn Henry Fonda, the all time good guy, into an iconic bad guy, you're doing something right. And Jason Robards as Cheyenne is hilarious. Great character.

Casablanca is great and it holds up pretty well. It's the one pre-60's movie I would recommend to anyone.

I only picked Bourne Ultimatum because I love the Bourne films and have never seen Casablanca. I always figured Casablanca would win (and likely should, based on conventional opinion, although I can't make that call myself).

I think the biggest upset of the entire tourney so far is The Rocky Horror Picture Show getting 5 votes against The Godfather

Last year one of the theaters in Honolulu showed Casablanca as part of their classic movie series. It was great to see one of my top 5 movies in a theater.

We have a local theater (The Stanford Theater in Palo Alto) that only shows classics. It's pretty fantastic, and where I first saw Casablanca. It was a double feature of Casablanca and Notorious. Great night.
