Adam Ant might have won if he wasn't completely off his rocker now.

Beatle-based pop versus New Romantic, History will decide
XTC all the way on this one. And the poll itself further solidifes my confidence in Quik's taste in music. |

Adam Ant was a lot of fun, but XTC made great (if at times a bit haughty) music.

I appreciate XTC, but damn, Adam Ant was just fun!
And I think it's a plus that he was actually crazy. So many just fake it.

I remember the names of the groups, but can't recall anything specific. Can anyone tell me some names of their more well-known songs?

XTC didn't really break into the mainstream to the extent that Adam Ant did. The songs you might know by XTC include the Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead and Dear God. My favorite songs by XTC are Making Plans for Nigel, Senses Working Overtime, and Dear God. They were a very influential band that had more mainstream success in the UK than the US (they are a British Band). They actually stopped performing live for many years because their lead singer, Andy Partridge, developed horrible stage fright.

Ugh. I forgot Mayor of Simpleton. That is the song most people would probably know. I'm not so bright.

Dola,
But reading the rest of the thread I know Making Plans For Nigel. Still, my Adam Ant vote stands. Would it be inappropriate to reveal I used to pretend to be Adam Ant as a kid, making the white stripe across the bridge of the nose and under the eyes with tape?

XTC is a great band. I like Adam Ant, too, but his best work is only as good as third-rate XTC.
