The All Encompassing Excel Help Thread

I had brought this up awhile ago, as I've been looking for Excel help in the past, and know that I've been able to help (I hope) a few people in the past. Figured it would be nice to have everything in one spot.

As time permits, I'll go through and try and add descriptions to each thread so they are easy to find a solution.

Thought this would be a good place for this question:

I've got a list of un-sorted data. I would like to create a new list with the same data, alphabetized. Solutions online seem exceptionally complicated - is there something I'm missing? This seems like it shouldn't be terribly difficult.

Alternate question: is there a way to lock in formatting so that when I copy and paste data, it leaves the formatting static? I'm using a light gray fill on alternating lines to make my table more readable, but cutting and pasting is bringing the fill along for the ride.
