I kept telling myself, I will stand strong and not get FOF2004 as my boycott for no TCY2 until later.

Now you guys get me drooling with all your stories and how much fun you're having. Now I want FOF2004. So I go and sumbit so I can get the $5 coupon, and go to see the mailing address/phone number so I can order it. (Mom is religiously against putting CC on the internet) So I make my way to payment and

only credit card options. Please tell me I am blind and there is an obvious place where money orders/phone orders can be placed.

Ask your mom if she's ever used her credit card at Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Target, or any other major retailer.

If so, tell her that the store probably uses the Internet to send the authorization. Actually, they probably send the check information over the Net too.

I believe it was Best Buy that used wireless Internet to send data from its checkout stands to the stores central computer. However I believe they stopped doing this after some fears about intercepting wireless. Though they may be doing it again.

The point is, most retailers are using some form of Internet to process credit card and checking transactions.

Why do you think you get that catalog from the store? The data from the mag strip can put you on their mailing list too.

Also, next time your mom uses a standalone ATM tell her to listen. She should hear a dialtone, than the sound of the modem. Meaning -- it's probably Internet connected too.

Also mention that the kid at Best Buy swipping her CC is more likely to steal it then an automated computer.

Bingo. My wife used to always express concern about me ordering downloadable games online. Finally, I said, "Honey, you give your credit card to a 19-year-old college dropout pothead with a pierced eyebrow at Mellow Mushroom! You think THAT is safer than the internet???"

She got quiet, and she hasn't brought it up since.

You don't even have to use the CC (internet or in person) to have it stolen. For every story of Russians hacking CC company DBs, there are many, many more that are never reported. Just make sure you see the lock on the status bar and click SEND!
