Halestorm won the Best Rock/Metal award in the pre-show stuff, thus taking care of all I gave a shit about.

For the first time in a long time, I don't think I know any of the actual nominees (I usually knew a few of bluegrass and/or gospel folks, apparently none this year) so this is truly a large don't-give-a-fuck event for me.

Steep Canyon Rangers won the best Bluegrass album, which is great - love those guys and they are from my state.

It's kind of sad that she seems to have given up on keeping the weight off. Not trying to be judgmental but she appears to be a rather active person, so she must eat like the dickens.

I never pay attention to the Grammys. Most pointless major awards show ever.

As an aside, I like The Lumineers musically, but could they come across as any more affected if they tried? The whole hipster thing is out of control. And put the damn microphone below your mouth FFS, you look like a pez dispenser.

They're also in Austin City Limits at the same time on PBS (along with Gary Clark Jr). Austin City Limits might be my favorite show on TV. I'm so white.

I can at least see me watching the Grammys. There are other award shows like the Billboard's that I have zero desire to watch as it is even more mainstream focused.

The Bob Marley tribute was fantastic and the Mumford Sons did a great job on both their song and the collaboration with several artists on "The Weight"...not sure they have staying power with their brand of music but this album was awesome.

EDIT: Here's the Bob Marley tribute.

Was I the only one who thought it was endearing that Taylor Swift knew the words to pretty much every song?

Nope. I loved that she was acting like a teenage girl at one of her own concerts. It's great to see them act like "normal" people from time to time.

As much as I love Mumford and Sons, their song structure is virtually identical for just about every one of their songs. It will be interesting to see what they do when they decide to branch out.

Taylor Swift gets so much crap tossed her way but a couple of my favorite song writers like her a lot and one of them got to tour with her.

Maybe I'm just getting old, but I don't think new stuff is particularly good. And it's not being a snob for a style, I can appreciate good music in any genre. But I just don't see it. Mumford & Sons is a good band, but if they are Album of the Year, there is not a lot of good music out there.

They are the new Dave Matthews. Unique sound, kind of trendy, decent music that they will be able to churn out often.

+ infinity

Then again, from the list of nominees I saw, they weren't a horrible choice.

There's tons of great music out there in all sorts of genres. JIMG, you like metal right? I'm sure there are a ton of bands you know are great. Now more than ever the Grammys are really just a show. Back in the day it was always pop that got front center because that's what sold the most. It probably still does, but with the industry so fractured by the ease of getting just about anything and everything out there, I think we're seeing a lot of different genres represented, but it's still pretty much the highest sellers, just a wider range of styles.
