Good Bye Colorado, hello
California.
Put in my two weeks today. Ihave a great job offer (I mean, REALLY great) in CA. Will be living in Murrieta area. I never thought I would end up in CA. Amazing curves life throw at us, huh? Oh, I will still hate the Lakers with a burning passion and I will get to baseball games ontime Last edited by TroyF : 02-05-2013 at 01:02 PM. |

Congrats. Never saw myself as a New Yorker, but that's where life has placed me.

Welcome aboard!
The inland empire. Interesting. I haven't spent much time down there, but I know some folks who really enjoyed the area. Oh and Kudos for hating the Lakers. I'm really enjoying this season. Quote:

Congrats. I'm in the Pacific NW. Had you asked me a year ago if I would leave NY/NJ area, I'd laugh at you.

I like the Murrietta-Temecula area, although it is surprisingly hard to get anywhere from there. Happy to see you moving here, though, Troy! We'll have to catch a game or two at the big A.

Heh... true. I'm not a Laker hater, but I would say I am a Laker disdainer, lol.
Go Clippers!

I'm finishing the spectrum. Go Lakers. Go Kobe
I like murrieta area. If you have a pretty well paying job, the col is pretty manageable. My grandparents are in the area. You have a minor league baseball team like 20 minutes away |

See, how's that for irony. He's one of the few Lakers I like. Or maybe admire is a better word, and only for his on court stuff. I probably dislike the Lakers as much for their oppressive fans and the way Laker talk dominates certain talk radio shows as much as anything to do with the Lakers themselves. I'm not even sure the local ESPN affiliate (which carries the Lakers) was even aware last week that the Super Bowl was going to be this past weekend.

I remember that area since I grew up (hs and college) just down 15 in north county. Both places, temec and murrueta, were very tiny 35 years ago before the snowbirds arrived. Good luck!

Hopefully you will work close to home, because traffic on the 15...SUUUCCCKKSS.
The Temecula/Murrieta area is kind of like the Thunderdome. Only one way in and one way out. But, you're fairly close to San Diego and LA and Vegas is an easy drive (minus the traffic) and the weather is great. Welcome to CALIFORNIA!!

Huh.. I live up in the Riverside area. Traffic sucks. We've been looking at living around Corona/Eastvale amongst other areas. Can't wait for the wife to find a permanent job. Last edited by finketr : 02-05-2013 at 03:39 PM. |

Only place I ever hit traffic is outside of corona on the 15. Everywhere else is a breeze compared to most of LA

It all depends on how far Troy has to go to get to his job. If he's close by there, traffic doesn't matter much. The only issue with that stretch of the 15 is usually if there happens to be an accident or something. When that happens, you're stuck there, because there is no other way in or out of the area.
Up in the Riverside area, of course, it can get kinda crappy at the 15-91 interchange. If Troy heads east from there, there is nothing fun about the 91-60-215-10 area of Riverside. If he heads west, the 91 through the Corona Valley-Yorba Linda area makes the "most congested highways" lists pretty much every time one of those articles comes out. If he's heading south toward San Diego, I don't know traffic down there so well.

91-15 is a mess.
215/60 near moreno valley is a construction mess. 91-60-215 if you're going east is a mess too. 15 traffic towards san diego is bad, too. |

At least in Corona, you have access to more freeways that are near by. So it shouldn't be too bad. Murrieta or Temecula, you are stuck using the 15 probably 98% of the time. The problem is, there isn't really any way in or out of the Temecula/Murrieta area, except for the 15. There's the 215, but, that takes you north/east towards Moreno Valley/San Bernardino away from San Diego/Orange county. Further north you have the 74 (Ortega Freeway which is a horrible, horrible road), to the south you have to go several miles before you can get to the 78 which will take you through to Oceanside and then to the 5. I mapped it out, Murrieta to Escondido (the 78) is 36 miles and Murrieta to Corona is 32 miles (the 91). The Ortega freeway is 15 miles from Murrieta, but, you might as well just drive up to the 91 and cut west. In general, the 15 is just a big bitch. On a Friday, the traffic will start in Mira Mesa in San Diego and will go all the way up to Temecula. Partially because of people headed to Vegas or the desert for the weekend. So, there's about a 50 mile stretch of traffic (and hopefully no accidents), if you're coming from San Diego. You would think for how many lanes the 15 has, there'd be no traffic though. The blue line on the map is the area where there is no freeway other than the 15 (well there's the 215, but, unless you work that way, is of no help). But of course, it all depends on where you work. If work is near by, being on the 15 won't be so bad. If you are working in Riverside or the north county of San Diego, get a comfy car seat.

Troy really didn't say where his job is going to be, unless I missed it.
I imagine things have changed a lot since I was there. Going from Escondido (where my parents lived for 20+ years) north, I never had hit any traffic until the air force base (forget what it's called). Going south, it was always at Miramar. Fond memories of hitting Temecula before making the climb because I knew I had left the crowded, smoggy Inland and I was getting close to home. |

Yup, he didn't say where he's working. It's changed quite a bit. The traffic starts right around Miramar (going north) and is slow and go all the way up to the check point at the top of the hill before you hit Temecula now. There are some spots where it will speed up a little, but, not much unfortunately. I believe it's March AFB there just outside of San Bernardino?

March AFB, that's it. Used to be several stop lights along the old 215.

OK, I am going to be in charge of two separate businesses, one is in Ontario, the other Escondito. I'll likely be spending more time in Escondito, but Ontario will be at least once or twice per week.
I picked Murrieta due to it being close to the midpoint between the two areas, the fact the crime rate is very low and the fact I can get a house there without having to supplement my income with heroin dealing. |

That's cool. Just make sure your place has AC. You're going to need it during the summer.

Yeah, but it's before the 60-215 mess and the 60-91-215 interchange coming from the south.
Temecula/Murrieta to Ontario shouldn't be that bad come to think of it. |

From experience, the I-15 stretch to the 91 is bad (at 7 AM). The stretch to the 60 is hit and miss, but usually it's on the slower side (20-30 mph) especially as you get closer to the 60.

Oh yeah. the 15.. I must have been thinking about something else, but yeah, the 15-91 interchange is usually crappy in all directions.
