...and now the release date speculation will kick into high gear.

I'll start.

1. He doesn't have to wait for CD's this time.
2. He has stated that the demo and screen shots are low priority.
3. I can't imagine Jim releasing a demo that isn't based on the nearly-final or actual gold version of a game.

November 10th is a Monday, which would be an awfully strange day to release a game (at least for someone who controls his own distribution). My guess is that the release will come the Friday or Saturday night before the demo is available, on the 10th (doubtful in my mind), or on the 14th, which would be the next Friday.

Ha! I forgot to put a date on my speculation. I was guessing Friday the 14th as well. That would be just my luck. I was asked to lead games and help chaperone an all-night lock-in for Habitat for Humanity that night.

Senator,

I just saw your sig. I didn't realize it was April 29th. Heh. A significant date already. Guess it makes sense that I was in a "combatitive" mood that day.

Hmm...if Jim releases it on a Friday, please be it early, so I can download from work and burn to a CD. I have no CD-RW at home, and my dial-up connection is too slowwwwww....though I guess if I needed to I could still download.

Why would he release on a Friday? Where I work, we try at all costs to avoid Friday releases since most of the world shuts down over the weekend. The customers are there, yes, but not the support network you rely on for a release. If there was an issue with e-license or some other problem beyond Jim's control, it would probably be Monday before he could get help resolving it.

If he's gonna be using ViaTech elicences... the support issue isn't really an issue. I've e-mailed ViaTech on a Saturday night and have had them respond in a matter of minutes. I believe they have people on during most weekends.

I think the reasoning behind a Friday release, is that all the potential buyers will have the whole night to talk about the game. More release date sales, and great buzz surrounding the release... releaseing on lets say a Tuesday, you'd have people at work, or going to bed early.

I'd really love for FOF2k4 to be released by the end of next week - I fly out for a week long business trip in beautiful Sweden and Norway. I'm dying for something to do on the flights and at night when I'm trying to decide between watching "Seals on Parade" and "Ice Fishing Championship 2003: Battle of the Network Stars".

I am guessing a November 8 release of both the demo and the full version.

I'm saying demo and release in the same day (damn, just saw Bad beat me to that guess). And that day will be early AM, November 10th.

I was thinking about the release date and I like the 7th for the release. Jim states on the site that the demo will be out by the 10th and I believe he probably was conservative in that estimate in order to cover any unexpected circumstances. I also think the demo and the game will likely come out on the same day.

Actually, the more I think about it, the more I'm thinking the demo will come out one day, and then the game the next. Jim has stated in the past that in his mind one of the major purposes of the demo is to make sure that there are no compatibility issues.

So you think the game will be out this weekend? That would be sweet

Well, no. The demo isn't out yet. I just meant that based on Viatech's speed of customer service, I'd imagine that they could have the game ready for purchase within an hour of the time Jim gets it to them. Unless there's something I'm missing in the process, here's what I'm thinking:

1. Jim and the beta team agree that testing is over and the game is ready to go gold.
2. Two things then begin happening simutaneously.
a. He uploads the game to Viatech's servers, and Viatech begins the process of getting it ready for sale (whatever that process is).
b. He begins working on the demo version of the game, from the gold version.
3. He puts the demo on his web site. Meanwhile, Viatech is ready to roll, waiting on the go-ahead from Jim to release.
4. He waits just a bit for folks to mess with the demo and make sure it is system-compatible, then releases the game 24-48 hours after the demo goes up.

This is just my guess.

Yeah, sorry man. I was looking at the screens and had a brain fart thinking you were talking about them and not the demo. Just a little overexcited I guess

So, in essence, QS should have a new FOF 2004 dynasty up soon?

I would think so.

And please note, I have *NO* insider knowledge whatsoever on a release date, nor have I asked Jim for any. At this point, with the release being obviously rather imminent, it is more fun to speculate than to know for sure.
