One And Done - Colts
One And Done
Background: In a try to expand my knowledge about drafting and gameplanning to my strengths, I'm gonna try the One and Done challenge. Rules: For rules about the challenge, see http://www.operationsports.com/fofc/...ad.php?t=62763 Setup: As the file are no longer to be found, I will try with my own file. I made a preference draft, and took over the team with the 1st overall pick. Let's get it on |

THE DRAFT INTERVIEWS:
QUARTERBACKS: Preston Moss - 6'1 / 198 - 6.4 grade - Toprated QB in the draft. He's a great allround guy. I'm worried by his low SR. A decent combine. Hard to read Ronald Lindquist - 6'0 / 222 - 5.3 - A good allrounder. Good at accuracy, reading the defense and twominute warning. Hard to read Andrew Lewkowitz - 6'5 / 224 - 4.7 - I always like a big QB. Decent allround bars, and a pretty high sense rush. Very Overrated Kent Burnes - 5'10 / 207 - 4.6 - Might be a decent backup. Or even starter if we make a gameplan for him to follow. Very nice 40-yard dash. Besides that, not much to see. Very Overrated Louie Small - 6'2 / 222 - 4.5 - Decent short passer, and a good kick holder. Very Overrated I could go with Ronald Lindquist who's the 6th rated QB in the draft. Actually I'm confident he'll become a decent starter. RUNNING BACKS: Colin Cooley - 5'11 / 218 - 6.8 - Seriously fast! 4.29 fast... And the toprated RB. Great allround skills, however he lacks elusiveness. Hard to read Renaldo Burrow - 5'11 / 217 - 6.6 - Might be the best pick of the two top RB's. Very, very strong. And a great allround runner. Overrated Mel Randle - 6'1 / 226 - 6.4 - Had a very good combine. scoring 4 blues and 1 red. Looks like he could become a star. Very Overrated Wayne Jones - 5'10 / 205 - 6.3 - Plays faster than his actual 40-yard-dash. Homerun runner. Overrated Courtney Wyse - 5'7 / 207 - 6.3 - 3 blue combine scores. If we go with a passing attack, Wyse would fit perfectly. Could probably play WR as well. As scouted Kyle Johansson - 5'11 / 223 - 5.1 - He's got speed. But that's about it. If he can learn, he could become good. Overrated Howie Sanders - 5'11 / 224 - 4.7 - Got the speed and the strength. But not really any vision or recieveing skill. A rough player, that could be nurtured into a starter. As scouted sammie Mattis - 5'10 / 205 - 4.7 - Good allround back. Not star potential, but could become a decent 3rd down back. Very overrated Aaron Buckley - 5'7 / 205 - 4.6 - A real power runner. With a decent combine scoring 3 blues. Overrated Hmm.. Some very poor impressions. However I still believe the top-2 guys will be beasts. But I'll need a pick in the top-10 if I want them. I'm probably gonna go with Wyse who's hopefully available in the second round. FULLBACKS: I'm not gonna waste interviews on a FB. However 10th rated Graham Olmstead looks nice with his 28 bench press. TIGHT ENDS: I dont feel like there's any interesting people here. I'll probably take my chances with 3.8 graded Ben Malone. WIDE RECIEVERS: Dean Poston - 6'1 / 215 - 5.6 - Fast reciever with playmaking ability. Very good BPR. Hard to read Daryl Woolbridge - 6'0 / 199 - 5.3 - A nice agility score at the combine. Safe hands throughout college. Could become a go-to-guy in tough situations. Overrated Phil McCollam - 6'0 / 194 - 5.0 - Had a good combine with 3 blue and 1 red. He's electrifying with the ball in his hands, however he's a very poor route runner. Hard to read Corey Jarvis - 6'0 / 198 - 4.7 - A decent WR that could be great if played in the right way. He's got good speed and can get behind the defense. Hard to read Artie Jeffries - 6'0 / 198 - 4.7 - A good route runner hindered by drops in college. A great special teamer as well. Very Overrated Jon Clayton - 5'11 / 178 - 4.7 - Showed very nice skills at the combine. He's a good allround reciever. However not the quickest one. Very Overrated Rex Neumeyer - 6'0 / 198 - 4.6 - Great hands, but not gifted physically. Could play special teams as well. Very Overrated Got to go with Dean Poston with that kind of speed. He's the 3rd best rated WR. Besides that not much below the top-5 recievers. I have a good eye at a couple of lowly rated recievers. Leonard Tyler and especially Karl Humphreys. CENTERS: Donoval Keevil - 6'0 / 275 - 4.2 - Fearless blocker. Needs strengthening though. Very Underrated Struck lucky. I think I'm gonna go with Keevil. If he falls. GUARDS: Randal Madison - 5'10 / 293 - 5.9 - Very good combine scores. Generally has been looking good. Lowly rated although he's the best guard. Could fall to where he'd be interesting. Very Underrated Lee Dann - 6'2 / 295 - 4.8 - Strong man. Not the best teqnique, but hopefully he'll learn it. Underrated Dwayne West - 6'3 - 327 - 4.4 - He's got great tecnique, but is he strong enough? Very Overrated Daniel Miller - 6'4 / 318 - 3.7 - Good Pass blocking and strength. Can't shift gear in the run game though. Hard to read J.R. Cox - 6'4 / 309 - 4.1 - A good run and pass blocker, but might lack the strength at this level. Hard to read No much to see here. Randal Madison is very interesting if he falls to the second round. TACKLES: Brett Ford - 6'5 / 317 - 6.3 - Best rated tackle. Good combine numbers. Skilled allround Underrated Myron Hopper - 6'6 / 338 - 5.9 - Looks like a franchise left tackle. Overrated Carl Hatcher - 6'4 / 315 - 4.9 - A very good agility. Could be a nice plug-and-play pass blocker. As scouted Mike Reed - 6'5 / 307 - 4.6 - A couple of nice combines scores, but he's some years away from impact. Hard to read Mark Bryant - 6'4 / 298 - 4.3 - Came out of nowhere with a great combine. Hasn't drawn attention in college. But seems talented. Very Overrated Hmm... Not really a talented pool of offense honestly. PUNTERS: No interviews, however I'll try landing the best punter. Because of his enormous kicking power. KICKERS: Nothing to see here. DEFENSIVE ENDS: Norbert Blackburn - 6'3 / 262 - 7.5 - Top player in the draft. Sick combines. Extremely skilled. A monster. Very Overrated Kenyon Kaplan - 6'4 / 277 - 5.7 - Secondrated DE. Pretty good combine and a nice pass-rusher. Hard to read Stan Chmielewski - 6'4 / 272 - 5.0 - Looks like a decent allround DE. Nothing fancy though Overrated Aaron Krill - 6'3 / 256 - 4.7 - Great pass rush strength. Could become a decent pass-rusher. Underrated Seems like a good bucnh of playmakers. Jonathan Palepoi is looking good too. Hopefully as a UDFA. DEFENSIVE TACKLES: Nick Dillon - 6'3 / 299 - 7.7 - The 2nd rated player in the draft. A dominant allround DT. Run stopper extraordinaire. Underrated Wesley Visconti - 6'2 / 289 - 6.8 - Smart and good allround DT. Some decent combine scores as well. Overrated Winfred Conley - 6'2 / 277 - 6.3 - This guy will be a perfect 4-3 pass-rusher. I want this guy. As a DE in my 3-4. Brutal hitter. Hard to read Charles Caldwell - 6'2 / 289 - 5.5 - A high agility score at the combine. Looks to become a good runstopper. Hard to read Marc Arnold - 6'1 / 289 - 5.0 - 13th rated DT. 3 red combine scores?! ... Could be a steal. Looks to become a terrific pass rusher. Hard to read A couple of very good players. Id like to run a 3-4 and a couple of decent steals could be found in this mix. INSIDE LINEBACKERS: Sean Osbourne - 6'0 / 228 - 7.2 - The 3rd graded player overall. Incredible combine numbers and great allround player. Hard to read Alvin Cassidy - 5'11 / 228 - 7.0 - Would have been the toprated ILB in most other drafts. Good combine and great allround player. Underrated Leonard Galoob - 6'2 / 269 - 5.3 - Very good combine. Looks liek a perfect 3-4 WLB. Great pass rush. Very Overrated Derrick Prescott - 6'0 / 236 - 4.8 - A very nice physical player. Nice strength and has a nasty hit. Very Underrated Prescott will creep into a nice player. Or so I think. He's our target for the ILB OUTSIDE LINEBACKERS: Percy Allen - 6'2 / 244 - 6.1 - Franchise Strongside LB. Faaaast and dominant. As scouted Hugh Armstrong - 6'2 / 247 - 4.5 - Fast LB with good tackling and decent coverage. However he's a soft hitter and has a weak pass rush. Very Overrated Martin Francis - 6'1 / 226 - 4.4 - Very good agility score. I seem to think he's a creeper, but i have no clue why? Hard to read Claude Jansen - 6'2 / 247 - 4.4 - COuld become a decent pass rusher. Not great but useful. As Scouted Let's see how this goes. I'd like Allen but he'll go too soon. CORNERBACKS: Rusty Feterik - 6'0 / 205 - 6.5 - Toprated CB. Seems very good. Safe choice that is. Hard to read Matthew Bleeck - 5'10 / 179 - 6.3 - Good dash and agility scores. Nice allround skills. Should be a decent pick. Underrated Horace Adler - 5'11 / 191 - 5.5 - This guy has a knack for the ball. Turnover machine simply. Very Overrated Jackie Cole - 5'9 / 181 - 4.8 - Run stopping CB. Looks decent although only decent combine score. Hard to read Roderick Brady - 5'9 / 178 - 4.6 - Run stopper with good hands. If he can get into position ;-) Very underrated Rob Sweat - 5'10 / 176 - 4.5 - A good 40-yard dash and 3 other blue combines. Haven't showed much at college level though. Underrated Leon Chapman - 6'0 / 205 - 4.3 - COuld be a nice starter over time. As scouted Roderik Brady is a must-have. Other than him I don't really know. SAFETIES: Jared Whalen - 5'11 / 197 - 5.7 - Looks like good value pick. Depending on where he'll go. He's a runstopping safety. Very Underrated Wesley Peterson - 6'2 / 227 - 5.5 - Decent skills, and a nice combine. Often gets caught out of position. Very Overrated Blake Wheeler - 5'10 / 198 - 4.6 - Has some qualities in coverage. Not for the ball though. Very Underrated Rico Laughlin - 6'0 / 203 - 4.4 - Runstopper. And only runstopper. Can't cover anything. At all. Very Underrated Looks like a decent bunch of guys. I'd like Wheeler and Laughlin. Last edited by Olsson : 10-08-2012 at 11:46 AM. |

I loved the One N Done challenge. I won by points, but I feel SkyDog actually won, since he got a bunch of Super Bowls and I managed only one. Good luck, I'll be following!!!

As we enter the draft we have the following picks
1(4) 1(13) 1(32) 2(2) 2(4) 2(25) 3(1) 3(2) 3(32) 4(1) 5(1) 5(2) 5(8) 6(1) 6(2) 7(1) 7(2) 7(32) All teams were generally tough to deal with. Although I doubt I have gotten the most out of my picks this is where i stand going into the draft. I think I'm gonna trade down a couple of times to pick up some extra 2nd-4th rounders. |

Before going into camp the Indianapolis team looks like this
Code:
A whooping 76 players will fight for the places. 3 players are leftovers from the previous team that did not get a contract. |

Going into the preseason we have the current squad available:
Code:
The Qb situation does not look as good as I would have liked. Lindquist will undoubtedly become the starter. We'll probably keep all 4 after preseason. Code:
Burrow is gonna carry this team. Howie Sanders looks like a steal at 6(1). A nice 1-2 combo. Sanders have conflicts with several players though. Buckley, Grove, Martin and Tate are battling for 2 or 3 spots. Tate is a special teams player only. I'm still considering skipping Olmstead. Code:
Alright. I'm not gonna expect any help from the TE's. I'll probably keep Snyder and Wolf as they're the best blockers. Despite their low numbers I'm confident the reciever corps will be gettign it done. They will all five go through. Code:
Im very confident in this line. Hopper and madison will be beasts. The others will be holding their ground. Probably won't be cutting further here. Code:
Struck lucky with Johnstone. I'm still keeping Whipple as he is a great kickoff-specialist. However. I feel it would be stupid to waste a roster spot for a Kicker. Code:
honestly? I don't know what to do. Scheme wise. I think I'm gonna go 4-3 as Arnold, Krill and Elway will become decent pass rushers. Caldwell and Pritchett could work as NT's in a 3-4 too though. I'll start the preseason with 4-3 Code:
Prescott wand Francis will become nice players. I have a problem against the run though. As I have no elite runstopper. Code:
You have a good preseason, you're in. Brady, Cole, Wheeler and Laughlin are the only certain players in this category. A pick would be nice for these people come decision time ;-) Outlook Over time. Our Run offense will become dominant. I just hope that our passing attack can follow. Our defense will need to rely on cohesion, and blitzing! If I reach the playoff one year, I'll be happy. |

Alright. An outright disaster. Lindquist went from useful to worthless. From 9 interceptions to 24?! Burrow got over a 1000 yards though. Last edited by Olsson : 10-18-2012 at 09:08 AM. |

2 games into the 2013 we're 2-0.
DE Marc Arnold had a monster game in week two. 6 tackles, 3 sacks and an interception return to TD. Wow... Last edited by Olsson : 10-18-2012 at 11:28 AM. |

Yuuuup.. We made it to the playoffs. And even to the Super Bowl. Unfortunately Mr. Lindquist threw a pick inside our own 20 at 17-14 in the 4th. Although he tried to orchestra a comeback drive he stagnated inside the red zone. We end up loosing 17-21 to 49'ers. Last edited by Olsson : 10-22-2012 at 12:08 PM. |
