I say we turn this thread into a poll, and then sticky it.

Over at another forum I saw they had one stickied thread at the top with links to all the important threads. Sort of like what Shorty is saying.

My two-week old son tends to have sticky poo in his diaper. I prefer the FOFC stickies.

doesn't that defeat the purpose of stickying threads? personally i think you should just have:

1. more defined rules for what constitutes important information

2. a tiered approach where the most important sticky's are at the top for the longest periods, and while the lowest tiered, or "priority" threads are at the top for a few days.

if something is important it's only natrual that the community will somehow keep it at top. if something isn't really important it'll find itse;f getting dropped towards the bottom and eventually off the front page all-together.

i see there's now only 3 stickies, i think the threads that are there now are the most important to this board, seems like the crisis is averted.

1. That's tough. It is more of a "feel" thing. Game announcements, new 3rd-party utilities, etc. are what I like to sticky for a time.

2. Generally I already to this.

I agree with your last paragraph, to a point. The problem is that sometimes things like the historical league project and TCY Helper announcement need no further discussion, but a prominent link would be nice.

Sticky this topic!

In all seriousness.. maybe a new forum header for the pending release of fof2004? Would keep the stickies down in the general forum

Just include all the links in the FOF Journal (from Morgado - linked from the front page), and conver that HTML into a post. Then sticky that one thread, and edit in links whenever major threads come up. That would call for only one sticky, ever, and would have everything organized.

If you're looking for a volunteer, I'll do it.

I didn't get to this last night, and I have a somewhat busy week in front of me, so I say go for it! Please include the links that I mentioned in my post above. Keep the FOF2K4 stuff at the top. I'll link to the thread you create from the front page. THANKS!

Maybe we can have a separate forum for the stickies.

Maybe I'm the only one, but does anyone else not see the stickies? I mean, they're there on my screen of course, but I just subconsciously ignore them.

There's a concept in web design known as banner blindness, which is when users will screen out anything that looks like an ad. It explains why when you have an important piece of information you find that the bigger and flashier you make it, the less people notice it.

I think something similar happens here. Since in most forums, stickies aren't interesting (they're announcements, forum rules and other administrivia), I find myself ignoring them here.
