We buy frozen corn dogs for our daughter. She insists, and I mean insists, that she eats them still frozen. Without my knowledge my wife has been giving them to her ice cold, at her request. I cooked one for her lunch today and she cried, and threw a fit. I didn't believe that "Mommy gives them to me frozen". When mom came home, Kerry happily ate her frozen corn dog. ick

I need a laptop. It's hard to manage with just a desktop in my dormroom.

'PBJs' ... a snack my family and I 'invented.' You take a few Strawberry Jam flavored jelly bellies, put them in a bag with some peanuts, and eat them by the handful. Quite good, I might add.

Isn't that kind of defeating the point of *shudders* low-carb beer?

I just polished off a bag of beef jerky and I'm washing it down with a cold can of Dr. Pepper.

That may not be impressive to most of you. But just try to find either in Japan.

Dude, I hear. I have a hard time finding beef jerky in Quebec, think in Japan Dr Pepper is quite available here though

Probably, but carbs don't mean squat to me, I really like the taste of the beer. My wife calls it water with a funny taste.

Serious, Frogman. that's something that they don't mention in the culture shock books. I wanted to make a vanilla milkshake a year or so ago. I am still looking for vanilla syrup.

I've gone to every foreign goods market and gourmet shop within a day's travel. No dice.

Of course, there are positive things about living in Japan, too. Imagine being in a place that's filled with atrractive women and you are Jean-Claude Van Damme circa 1996.

Yeah, I tried poutine a few times when I used to go up to Shawinigan for work. With or without cheese curds, I couldn't really eat more than a bite or two.

Also...I don't remember what fast-food type place it was, but while I was in Quebec, I went out to lunch and got coffee, a processed chicken sandwich, and a chocolate doughnut. Only in Quebec will you find that meal referred to as "Combo #1"

It sure always depends where you get your poutine from. If you get it from one of those small french fries stands, you'll get the greasy version. I can make you an homemade one you would sure like, unless you don't like the taste of gravy with fries...

If it's got a doughnut, it's gotta be either Dunkin Donuts or Tim Horton's. Probably Tim Horton's, but it could be any place lie Papa Joe's diner, we got some of those too you know

I went up to Shawinigan a few times to install and train workers to use a work order system I wrote for Alcan Aluminum...I worked for them for three years and went on-site a number of times at their different facilities. The coolest time I went up there was when my trip coincided with the elections in 2000 (or was it 2001?). Anyway, Jean Chretien got re-elected and his victory party was in the same hotel I was staying at.

yeah, well, I'm not gonna comment on Johnny Cretin getting reelected. Probably was cool being the same hotel has his posse, but certainly not cool being stuck with that clown...

Something the culture books never mention is that when you move to certain countries you seem as exotic to the women there as they do to you when they come to America.

Oh and yeah. Japan is filled with cute girls. This is especially true for guys who are into asian girls (of which I am not particularly).

Also, on the business of snacks, how much weight can you gain on fish and rice. People here tend to be uniformly slender. And Japanese women act in a femenine way that has all but vanished from America.

I'd say the number of 9s and 10s is the same as back home. But the average girl is a 7, rather than the 5 she is back home.

Try to popularize fish and rice back home.

I'm interested in this discussion on culture shock and the relocation to a new country (which I like to do, study abroad at least). Why are you considered exotic? Or Americans in general? Does Asian women come to you and start asking you for a date? How are they feminine? Are the snotty femininie. I am somewhat disappointed at the quality and values of American women. Does this mean that an average looking, but a nice caring guy who wouldn't get more than the "just friends" stage in American become attractive to Asian women? Do you become more attractive then Asian men? Just curious, does fish include all types, not just raw?
