For all of the talk about Warner struggling last week (he really didn’t struggle than badly considering he was playing with a bruised brain), I thought the story of this game was how the Giants continue to play down to the level of their competition. When you come up with 6 sacks, 3 fumbles, an INT and average 6 yards per offensive play, you shouldn’t be “holding on” in the fourth quarter. This was a home game. The Rams shouldn’t have been within striking distance in the fourth quarter. It seems like whenever I’m able to see the Giants play, I feel like they are the better team. Yet, they don’t blow anyone out and have about a .500 record in those games. I can see why this team lost to teams like Houston and Arizona last year. I expect they’ll screw around and keep another game much closer than it should this week. Parcells may just bite them in the ass when they do. Quincy is the overriding factor for me, Giants 20-17.

Chief - I don't present any mutiple choice guesses on this one. All I know is, the Giants should win this one handily. I don't know if Giants' teammates themselves even like Shockey, so I don'tt hink the "homo" comment is going to affect them much. I could definitely see it firing up the Boys, though. They will also be playing on Monday Night, which players always get hyper about, especially when you're on a losing team not expected to be in primetime too often now or in the near future. In fact, this matchup had no juice to it beyond the normal Dallas-New York rivalry (which had lost its luster with the Cowboys sucking), so I am left to wonder why ABC & the NFL picked this one this week instead of, say, St. Louis-San Fran, KC-Pittsburgh, or Indy-Tennessee. It almost feels like ABC paid Shockey to make that comment to the media. Conspiracy-theorists unite! Maybe Shockey ain't so dumb after all...nawwww. I think I have B.S.'d you long enough, but that's because Troy took the steam out of my engine. He hit it right--the Giants are horrible at playing down to their competition. The fact the Rams were in the last one until the end was not lost on me either, and that boggles the mind. The Cowboys actually have a better defense than the Rams, so the Giants could be a bit less effective on offense this week (in fact, I think and have thought for sometime, that the Rams' big problem, besides the albatross around the neck named Martz, was their questionable defense, not the convoluted QB Situation). The Giants are strongest against the pass, but that will just encourasge Parcells to run more--he knows he doesn't have a passer. What does all this mean? Exactly the tease Troy suggested. I like 20-17 as well, with the Giants pulling it out.

Well there is a good reason ABC picked this game: Parcells against his old team. That's story enough there (see that funny L.T. commerical? LOL), even without 'homo'gate.

The line is now up to -8 , which makes it a hard play either way. On a side note, its raining really hard in the Philadelphia area, so I'd expect the same up in the medowlands. In a wet game, it can't favor the Giants, who rely more on a finese running game with Tiki. Does this make it a must play for the Cowboys?

The reason why the Giants "let" teams stay in it with them when they shoudl be destroying them is simple. They can not score a touchdown once they get into the red zone.

Last week, they got 2 trips to the red zone and got 1 TD out of it (1 FG). (It's hard to say if it's getting better on just 2 trips, but it'd have been better if they got 2 TD's)

Last year, the Giant's redzone offense was horrible.

Dont' forget, the Giants also turned the ball over 3 times last week. At the ned of the day, it was still just a +1 turnover margin for the Giants.

I think that the Giants offense is expanding. Remember, Ike was injured for a good part of the year. Shockey's going to become a red-zone stud if they use him properly. I don't dispute the figures that you've thrown up, but they have too much talent to be producing such poor numbers in the redzone.

I agree. That's one of the big critisms that ti Giants have gotten for the past 2 or 3 years has their production in the red zone.

And so far, judging by the first two series, the Giants are going to have a long night because that offensive line (with 3 rookies on it) is doing horribly so far.

It's not just the red zone numbers. It's the fact that this team simply plays to whatever level their competition is playing. Think about this number: 13 of their 17 games last year were decided by a TD or less. The Bucs had FOUR such games last year. The Eagles had SIX.

The Giants were 2-2 in the "blowouts."

They actually broke from tradition by actually winning by 10 in the St. Louis game last week. That made this week an almost lock to be within a TD. (still a long time left, I figure they'll close up the score)

It doesn't surprise me in the least they are laying an egg tonight.

So, outside of dropping sure TD passes, exactly why is Shockey continuing to get the hype again? He's a piss poor blocker. He has 3 catches in two weeks. It isn't going to be long before I move him to fourth behind Heap, Gonzales and Crumpler. (while Tony is struggling in the passing game this year, he's a terrific blocker)

Hell, at this pace Doug Jolley will catch him in a few weeks on my list.

Now watch him have a 200 yard fourth quarter.

Here's where you couldn't be more wrong, Troy. Myabe last year he didn't do a good job blocking, but so far this year he's a done a pretty good job at it. He's a reason why Barber was able to get 146 yards rushing last week.

I didn't get a chance to see a lot of the Rams game. I'm judging him off what I see tonight. I'm still waiting for him to lay a hat on someone. Out of the 8 runs I've charted that went his way, he made one quality block. One.

I guess I should say he's an "inconsistent" blocker then. (I believe he had a big week last week. I trust your opinion on the subject.)

I'll agree with this statement.

The Giants come back to tie it, but this is where a team wants a coach lie Bill Parcells. We'll see if he can pull Dallas out of this downward spiral.

I'm not sure I've ever seen him play a poor game from college to the NFL. The reports out of Oklahoma was that he was too slow for the NFL. He's picked up right where he left off IMO. What a terrific player.

Unless a huge blunder occurs, Dallas should have this one. And they should, to be honest. As a NY fan, it pains me to say this, but with the way the Giants have played, they deserve to lose. It was a great comeback, but with the way they played in first half, they way they completely screwed up the end of the fourth quarter and the way the defense played in OT (and the offense)....this is just not a game they deserve to win.

What a difference having Bill Parcells as a head coach makes.

Great point. I remember the game Kordell had against the Ravens a couple years ago. One of the best performences by a QB I've ever seen. Gotta hand it to the Q tonight though. He played a great game.

He did look pretty good. He also looked pretty good at times against Atlanta last week.

But man, that interception he threw that was returned for TD was one of the worst decisions/throws I have ever seen. Just terrible.

Of course, in the fantasy league my wife and I own together, we are actually disappointed that Carter has a bye in week 3, as that means we can't pick him up to use him next week. Has anyone ever had a more depressing fantasy football thought than, "Damn, I can't use Quincy Carter"

I tend to agree with you there. As Samdari mentioned above, even when he's had great games he's made some of the dumbest decisions you will ever see. I also hate that hitch in the pocket he has.
