IR Greatest TV Show Tournament: Round 1, Bloc 6

And we're back to the action! Last bloc, we witnessed Monday Night Football pull off the stunning 14 seed upset over 3 seed Lost and 9 seed Friends pummel 8 seed House.

The Eaglesfan27 bracket already had #1 Seinfeld and #9 Friends on tap for the second round, but now it's #5 seed Big Bang Theory against #12 seed The Office (UK) to determine who goes up against #4 seed The X-Files in Round 2.

Big Bang Theory
CBS sitcom that began in 2007. Has won a handful of minor awards, including the People's Choice 2010 Award for Favorite TV Comedy and the 2009 American Film Institute nod for Best 10 Television Programs of the Year

The Office (UK)
BBC comedy began in 2001 and led to a host of other The Offices, including in the US, Brazil, France and Canada. Won the 2004 Golden Globe for Best TV Series: Musical or Comedy, beating out several American entries, the first British TV series to ever do so and the first one in 25 years to be even nominated for a Golden Globe.

In the Izulde region, #1 seed The Wire, the 2nd overall seed in the tournament, faces off against the #16 seed Top Chef, to determine who faces #8 seed Mad Men.

The Wire
When Harvard and Berkeley are offering classes in you, you know you're an amazing TV show. This FOFC cult favorite and HBO drama ran from 2002-2008 and was named Best TV Show of the Decade by Time. And yet, it has never won an Emmy, which suggests there's a network television bias.

Top Chef
The lone cooking show entry and perhaps the lone Bravo entry, it's been running since 2006. A reality TV series, three spinoffs are planned. Won the 2008 Emmy for Oustanding Editing in a Reality TV Series.

For the Solecismic, we have 7 seed Family Ties tipping off against 10 seed Battlestar Galactica (new version) for the right to face 2 seed South Park.

Family Ties
NBC series ran 7 seasons, from 1982-1989. Most famous for making Michael J. Fox a star as the Republican son living with ex-hippy parents. Fox won 3 straight Emmys for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series (1986, 1987, 1988) and also won the 1989 Golden Globe in a similar category.

Battlestar Galactica (new version)
Reset of the 1978 sci-fi series ran from 2004-2009 on the Sci-Fi channel. Won 2007 and 2008 Emmys for Outstanding Visual Effects, among other awards, including a 2006 Peabody and the 2009 Television Critics Association Program of the Year.

And finally, in the Pumpy Tudors region, #4 seed Deadwood squares off against #13 seed Happy Days to determine who plays #5 seed Star Trek in the second round.

Deadwood
1870s Western HBO drama with a 3 season run from 2004-2006. Critically acclaimed, although overshadowed by fellow HBO shows The Sopranos and Six Feet Under.

Happy Days
ABC program ran from 1974-1984 and chronicled the '50s and '60s, making this matchup one of period programs. Led to the phrase "jumping the shark" being coined. I couldn't find awards information on it, but everybody knows The Fonz.

I wouldn't consider Happy Days a huge upset over Deadwood by any means. To me, both those shows are under/overrated respectively. What I really want to see is The Wire kick some ass.

Tim making fun of Gareth is the highlight for me. Plus Gareth's weird diatribes to the camera.

Sucks that Deadwood is matched against Happy Days. I love happy days, but Deadwood was just such a unique view of the old West.

Awful bracket. The only show I cared to see win is getting smashed (Battlestar). I like Family Ties as well, but not nearly as much.

You must be referring to the fact that a really well done show like Deadwood is getting beat by the fucking Fonz.

------------ is close to Top Chef in the 1-16 game. That'd be one heck of an upset.

Go Top Chef! Beat the most overrated show in this list! That'd be hilarious.
