Anyone know...

... if this is easy to fix.

Today my car hatch wouldn't close when I got home. I have a "5 door" Focus and the hatch lock wouldn't engage when I tried to sut the hatch. It looks like the locking mechanism is not engaging at all.

I tried to get the plastic off the inside of the hatch to see if I could get the lock out but had no luck. May have to take this to the dealer.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Any idea on how much something like this may cost to replace?

Thanks in advance.

Look at the latch section,
there is a spring loaded catch you should be able tor eset with your finger.

hard to describe, but real simple once you "see it"

It will be on the car part not the hatch part, there is a lever that is across the "striker catch" pull it up out of the way and when you shut it it will latch....

Back in high school (so like 25 years ago) I got in an accident with my VW Rabbit. My dad and I fixed it up ourselves, and got everything going well except the front hood would NOT latch. I drove around for months with a coat hangar keeping the hood down.

Had an issue with the fuel pump crop up, and my Dad found a big-rig mechanic who worked on the Diesel Rabbits for a hobby. We took it in for him to look at, and he asked why we were driving so dangerously using a coat hanger. We told him the issue, he pulled out a screw driver, stuck it in the post with the spring that holds the latch down, turned it a few times, and the hood shut perfectly.

So, try a screw driver

My car must be a woman. Went out there this morning and it worked fine without doing a thing other than opening it and closing it one more time.

So you want to talk about an over-rated crybaby, a rapist and a minor league baseball team?

Oh ok, if you have an attachment that goes on the end then it's all good. Just make sure that shit doesn't break off inside something.

We could compare trophies. And I appreciate you complimenting my Pirates by implying that they in some way resemble any kind of professional baseball team.
