Multi-monitor help.

I have a two monitor system at work (a laptop connected to a smartboard-the smartboard acts as a second monitor). I like to set rocketdock running at the bottom of the smartboard so that I can easily access commonly used programs while I'm at the smartboard teaching and not at my desk where my laptop is. The problem is, rocketdock launches programs to my primary monitor only. I cannot figure out how to make it launch to the secondary monitor. Is there a free solution out there that I could configure to launch a program to my secondary screen?

This is driving me crazy.

This is all I cound find easily:

hxxp://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/

I was hoping there would be some sort of parameter you could set in a program shortcut to do it, but I couldn't find anything. Saw mention of an icon on a 2nd monitor's desktop opening on that monitor, so you might try that if possible. However parameters should all be program specific. Otherwise you are probably stuck with having to wrap the launch in a script - essentially what it looks like these guys above did, although theirs is a much more elaborate tool.

Will your video driver software allow you to swap your primary and secondary monitors? I've done that temporarily for circumstances like you describe, but that probably isn't a long term solution of any real merit.

I'm using windows 7 with two monitors. If I start an app and move it to my secondary monitor and close it the next time I start that app it opens in my secondary monitor.

But I'm assuming you're using XP so that bit of news won't help you one bit...will it?

1) I've already looked into ultramon; it isn't free.
2) Yes I could probably switch primary and secondary monitors, but that fails what I need for other reasons.
3) I'm using Vista and this does not happen with Rocketdock no matter how hard I try.

Thanks for trying, guys. Looks like this is a bust and I'll have to find a pain in the rear solution.

Display fusion is my choice for Windows 7, way better than ultramon that i used to love in WinXP, and it's free.

http://www.binaryfortress.com/displayfusion/
  • Advanced Multi-Monitor Taskbar support
  • Use a different desktop wallpaper image on each monitor
  • Use a desktop wallpaper image that spans all monitors
  • Randomly change your desktop wallpaper using local images or images from Flickr
  • Drag or middle-click the taskbar of maximized windows to move them to other screens
  • Auto-snap windows to the edge of your monitor
  • Integrated Flickr.com image search & download
  • Integrated Vladstudio.com image search & download
  • Window TitleBar Buttons to move/size/control windows
  • Manage application windows with fully customizable hotkeys:
    • Move windows to the next monitor
    • Move windows to the next monitor and maximize them
    • Move windows to the centre, top, bottom, left or right side of the monitor
    • Size windows to a configured size or percent of the work area
    • Maximize windows so that they span all monitors
    • Customize your own hotkeys to do anything you can imagine

I'll try it tomorrow at work, but at first glance after installing and running it, I didn't see anything that would do what I wanted.

I may have found a solution with an AutoHotKey script. Unfortunately, competition organizers at my school needed to borrow my projector today, so I can't test it out, but I see no reason why this wouldn't work.

Thanks for all the ideas, guys. I'll hopefully just post one more time in this thread saying it worked.
