Make Mine Rare - The Super Bowl Edition (Results Posted)

I figure the I would try to ressurect a game that has not popped up recently with the Make Mine Rare - Super Bowl edition.

Make Mine Rare is about answering with the most unique correct answer that you can come up with.

Rules
- Each question must be answered with a valid answer for that question. Any answer that is invalid will receive the maximum factor for that question.
- All questions must be answered, not answering a question will receive the maximum factor for that question.

Scoring
- Scoring will be done after all entries are received.
- The score given for each question will be equal to the number of players with that same answer (example: If the question was to name a vowel and 3 people say E while 8 people said A those who said E will be scored 3 for that answer while those who said A will be scored 8).
- The final score will be the product of the scores (example: if there were 3 questions and your scores were 3, 8 and 7 your final score would be 3 * 8 * 7 = 168).
- The winner is the player with the lowest final score.

Deadline
Friday evening, February 5th. 11:59 PM EST

The questions
1) Name an NFL team that has won a Super Bowl.

2) Name an NFL player that has been named a Super Bowl MVP.

3) Name a current NFL team that has not played in the Super Bowl (for teams that have moved playing a previous Super Bowl at the prior city counts as making the Super Bowl).

4) Name a quarterback that has played in at least 1 Super Bowl between 2000 and 2009.

5) Name a quarterback that has played in at least 1 Super Bowl between 1990 and 1999.

6) Name an NFL team that has won more than 1 Super Bowl.

7) Name a city that has hosted at least one Super Bowl since 2000.

**** Only actual NFL teams and players count as valid answers. Fictional players and teams do not count as valid answers. Only cities who have hosted a real Super Bowl count (cities that have hosted ficitonal Super Bowls do not count as valid answers).

1) Name an NFL team that has won a Super Bowl.

I figured this would be a good question with enough answers to allow for some singular answers but but get everyone starting to try to outthink the competition. Chiefs and Raiders were popular early responses. Everyone stayed away from the Patriots and 49ers. An incorrect answer of the Bills was given, they made 4 straight but no wins.

Chiefs - 6
Raiders - 4
Redskins - 4
Rams - 3
Cowboys - 3
Bears - 2
Buccaneers - 2
Bills - 1 (28)
Broncos - 1
Packers - 1
Colts - 1

2) Name an NFL player that has been named a Super Bowl MVP.

Similar to question one, sometimes the obvious answer may be the best in these competitions, though the answers were more diverse for this one.

Chuck Howley - 3
Jake Scott - 3
Richard Dent - 3
Harvey Martin - 2
Larry Brown - 2
John Riggins - 2
Doug Williams - 2
Ottis Anderson - 1
Desmond Howard - 1
Jerry Rice - 1
Bart Sarr - 1
Len Dawson - 1
Joe Montana - 1
Deion Branch - 1
Jim Plunkett - 1
Mark Rypien - 1
Roger Staubach - 1
Larry Csonka - 1

3) Name a current NFL team that has not played in the Super Bowl (for teams that have moved playing a previous Super Bowl at the prior city counts as making the Super Bowl).

This was the poker showdown question. I didn't realize initially just how few there are anymore after several first time teams over the last few years. I purposely left a loophole answer in of the Saints, as they have not yet appeared in a Super Bowl. It took a while but someone finally gave that answer and oddly enough the very next person hd the same answer. A couple of incorrect answers as the Seahawks and Bengals have made it to the Super Bowl, the Seahawks not that long ago.

Jaguars - 12
Texans - 6
Lions - 4
Saints - 2
Browns - 2
Bengals - 1 (28)
Seahawks - 1 (28)

4) Name a quarterback that has played in at least 1 Super Bowl between 2000 and 2009.

The obvious was avoided the most in thie question and turned out to be the best answer. Several tried to come up with QB's that barely played but that did not work out well. One incorrent answer as though Randel'El threw a pass he was not a quarterback and was not playing as quarterback on that play.

Tony Banks - 5
Kerry Collins - 4
Trent Dilfer - 3
Rich Gannon - 3
Matt Hasselbeck - 3
Brad Johnson - 2
Jake Delhomme - 2
Ben Roethlisberger - 2
Rex Grossman - 1
Steve McNair - 1
Tom Brady - 1
Antoine Randel-El - 1 (28)

5) Name a quarterback that has played in at least 1 Super Bowl between 1990 and 1999.

Similar to question 4, overthinking hurt many chances.

Drew Bledsoe - 5
Bill Musgrave - 4
Stan Humphries - 4
Frank Reich - 3
Neil O'Donnell - 2
Mark Rypien - 2
Jeff Hostetler - 2
John Elway - 1
Jim Kelly - 1
Troy Aikman - 1
Chris Chandler - 1
Steve Young - 1
Elvis Grbac - 1

6) Name an NFL team that has won more than 1 Super Bowl.

After having everyone think about teams that one at least one it was interesting to see how the thought process changed when looking for a team that won multiple (a smaller subset). Only 4 people used the same answer for both questions. Again the Patriots were avoided like the plague.

Redskins - 7
Broncos - 5
Dolphins - 4
Colts - 3
Raiders - 2
Giants - 2
Packers - 2
49ers - 2
Steelers - 1

7) Name a city that has hosted at least one Super Bowl since 2000.

Houston - 8
San Diego - 5
Detroit - 5
Atlanta - 3
Glendale - 2
Jacksonville - 2
Tampa - 1
Miami - 1
New Orleans - 1

Congratulations to CU Tiger for the win.

On an interesting note (possibly), Pyser did not have one incorrect answer just a run of bad luck.

Nice results. It looks like the most obvious answers would have made you look best.

Congrats, CU Tiger!

I guess that Silver is respectable. I can't believe the Chiefs got me -- especially since no one else picked Len Dawson for the next question.

Congrats, CU Tiger! I think you should run another one so we can keep this going like IWS.

You came very close to winning. CU Tiger was the last entry received (and the only one yesterday).

Hmm, just received another entry. Sadly it wouldn't have cracked the top 3.

wow...beginner's luck I s'pose.

After my dismal results running IWS (probably an all time low # of entries and a tie for the win) Id really like someone else to run with this one.

Nah, it wasn't bad management in that IWS contest. sub-20 entries isn't abnormal. The theme wasn't bad either, this MMR contest got close to 30 entries. It does help if people actually reply to bump the thread about a dozen times over the week.

What he said...

I actually didn't notice there was another IWS going until I saw the results posted. Bumping helps a lot as many people just check the threads marked as new (or recently updated) when they pop in. If they aren't specifically looking for something that is.
