Oldest girl is a couple months short of 3 years old. BTW......thanks to whoever suggested a gift from the baby to the older sibling as a good idea. We got a Hello Kitty necklace for my daughter from the baby. She's been talking nonstop tonight about how she "loves her Hello Kitty necklace that baby Giselle got her". Worked like a charm. |

That's the span of our two boys. Glad the gift worked well for you, ours backfired as our older son decided he hated whatever the baby had got for him and was always grumbling about it. We did better on his birthday I think. |

Yeah, seriously... there are babies popping out everywhere. So many of my friends are having kids/recently had kids, lots of FOFCers too... dunno. There must have been something in the air to make everyone horny and fertile at the same time. Anyway, congrats MBBF!!

I dunno. I think that perhaps quite a bit of the posters here are in the 27-35 year age range. I mean, we had a slew of the "i'm getting married!" threads a few years ago. Parenthood is just a logical progression. |

We've been EXTREMELY lucky. She's been sleeping from 11:00 PM through 5:30 AM since she was 3 weeks old. It's a whole lot easier to take care of a baby when she allows you to have 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep every night. Our first daughter got up every two hours for the first 3-4 months. I'm really glad I haven't had to go through that again. It also makes the mommy much more pleasant to be around than a sleep-deprived mommy. |

I hear you. Our first (she's turning 2 in less than a month) didn't sleep through the night until she was 6 months+. My wife breast feed her through the night so I'm sure that had something to do with it. My wife is due May 31st with our second - do we have to go through this again??!! I hope our case will be like yours.

Regardless of how it works out, I think it's MUCH easier to adapt to a second child. You already know what to do in regards to the baby. The only thing you have to balance is making sure that the first kid doesn't get left out. We've worked that out by allowing Mommy to go out with the older kid for a movie or dinner. I stay home and watch sports while taking care of the baby. Seems to work well and older one responds well to it. |

I don't want to rain on any parades, but I think for fair warning I should say that in my case adapting to the second child was much harder. It may have been where our lives were at that point, the fact that he was colicky, etc., but I had a really tough time. It wouldn't have helped to think that I shouldn't be, so I like to tell soon-to-be-second-kid parents that it's possible it could be tough. Make sure to look for help if it is.
