WHen you go out to grill steaks....
JUST GRILL THE FUCKING STEAKS.
I was happily grilling away when in a fit of boredom I remembered that my garage door needed adjusting. So I test the cables on one side, very light tension (door was up in the resting position) no problem, popped off the S bolt holding the chains, moved it up 2 rungs and popped it back on. Bing Bang, no problem! Moved to the opposite side and as I have the cables off the weight of the door starts inexoribly pulling the cables out of my hands. Like any typical male I grit my teeth and pull harder.... TWANG! The S bolt and chains whip out of my hands tearing the fingernail half off my right ring finger and zooming inches past my eyes. I got that slow motion effect as the S bolt crossed right before both eyeballs. Thankfully its a fairly minor injury, hurts like a bitch but it should heal fine. My nerves are fucked after that massive shot of adrenilin, I will probably sleep very well this evening. Moral of the story, ALWAYS ALWAYS prop the door up with something before trying to adjust the chain tensioners. Night folks!

Hope your steaks were good at least?
At my parents' house (years ago) we had one of our garage door opener springs break, punched a nice hole in the garage wall. Glad you're OK! /tk

Can't speak for Lathum but some of my favorite stuff to grill are mushrooms, onions, zucchini, apples, peaches, corn on the cob....I could go on quite a bit. /tk

They're GREAT. Pineapple, too. Ever sauteed peaches or apples? Same principle, flavor-wise (taste wise, too, if you use butter to ensure they don't stick to the grill...) /tk

Oh I fixed the door after bandaging my hand. If I hadn't Telle wouldn't have gotten the car out for work tomorrow!
Funniest moment was immediately after it happened, I'm standing in the driveway bleeding on the concrete trying to decide "Do I turn the steaks and then go inside or do I go inside and then turn teh steaks?" I turned the steaks first. |

That's gross. I like my steak rare, but not human blood rare.

I thought the moral of the story was to just grill the steaks and ignore the other shit going on, like a garage door needing to be fixed... Quote:
Excellent call. This is along the same lines of never, ever putting your beer down when you leave the room at a party. |

Can't believe there was bloodshed in Buffalo and it wasn't during the semi-hourly FOFC meetup.

Well...I thought you were going to tell us that the garage door swung shut and locked your ass in the garage while your steaks were threatened with over-searing. Now if that had been the case, I was then hoping to read that you pushed *through* the garage door to make the save. Basically I had the whole post worked out based strictly on the title. In any event, glad it was just a fingernail.

At least the steaks came out good!
I was BBQ'ing some country ribs once, went into the house to work on the rest of the food & my neighbor came to the door. He wanted me to look at something at his place real quick... A few minutes later I realize the beeping I hear is my smoke alarm! Cleaning up the mess on the stove it suddenly hit me... MY RIBS! The grill was engulfed in flames. As I throw it open & use the tongs to flip the rack off & get the fire away from the propane tank, the next door neighbor yells from the window "IS IT DONE YET?" |

I dunno, it was a pretty cool scene, the explosion was a bit weak, but its not a top budget series of movies after all.

Everyone remember the scene in SPiderman when the thug is trying to punch Peter out and Peter dodges his fist and watches it go back and forth?
See that with a steel wire holding a 2 inch S bracket and a foot of chain on the end of it flying by. I can't ever UNsee that....
